Brutha,

I think you made the correct choice with the transom. Due to the given variables, you don't have much choice... Unless you stay with STRINGER POWER! :D I'm sure once you blend it in, paint, you'll be the only one that notices anything not stock looking in regards to the boats lines... Press on brutha!

Wish I was closer to ya! Would love to hang out, drink some suds, and talk boat smack at the shop!

For sure Patrick is doing a fine job and I can't imagine there being anything noticeable when he is finished. The gap in transom can also be a little exagerated because of the removal of the last transom holding its shape. Doing a fine job.

You know cuda it would be nice to get together with some fellow iboaters, just like the car clubs do. It would be interesting because it takes someone who is a little crazy to tackle what we are all doing. That being said it would probably be one wild weekend and a good time:)

Cheers

It's clear you have put some serious time into thinking this boat building stuff through. Keep on it!

Mark another win for the man:)

Nice work Patrick, looks like you are making some progress with your transom battle. You will be glad you put together the wiring diagram.....it will save you a bunch of time later on. I color coded mine, yellow for lights, blue for instrument wires, etc....!

Hey Arch, Thanks! As always, appreciate the feedback. Yeah, the wiring diagram is just a beginning sketch to try and learn how everything works together. Still very fuzzy on that.... Hopefully, it will "click" as I start working through it more. I plan on doing a computer-generated, color-coded one at some point.

Great vids.
Your work shows how much effort and time you put into figuring out how to rework your transom. Always like seeing a plan work out right. :D

Thanks for the vids and keep up the great work.

Thanks Kent - appreciate you stopping by. Thanks for the kind words.

Can't believe you are flatening out the transom like that....
Just hate to see you change the shape of a classic hull design. The curved transoms on the Chris Crafts really adds to the appeal of the boat imo.

Hang in there with me CC - I have thought obsessively about this transom for about a month (even dreamed about it), and this is the only approach that made sense to me... Hopefully, it will blend and not be noticeable...

Looking good Patrick. I should be to the transom stage here in the next month or so (hopefully) Your videos are motivating anyway :D

Thanks man, glad you stopped by and glad you are enjoying the vids.

Bear and OJ and Jason: Thanks so much for the words of support and vote of confidence. I am pretty confident in the route I am heading as the best option among difficult choices... One reason I am committed to it is I can sort "visualize" how I want to it to work out and can sort of visualize the steps needed to get there. I think having confidence in the approach will give me a better chance of success.

I agreed with you guys that an iboats gathering would be epic!!! Let's pick a central location and make it happen... I'd be all over it.

Let's see we got Wisconsin, MS, Michigan, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, the Maratimes, and British Columbia... (among others).. Okay, may be tough, but we can dream.... Maybe when Arch launches that party barge????

PMC: think regionally, like the FiberGlassics forum crew. Open to all, but planned regionally.

Besides, I'm not sure my liver is prepared for an epic oops/arhcbuilder et al party. It's been bad, and must occasionally be punished:eek: but I'm really not ready for my liver to move out in protest!

Regional is all practical and logical...we dry dockers do not speak of such evil and silly words...

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1).

We shall never speak of this again;)

Except to say as an un-official spokes person, you brought it up so by default PMC=Organizer, you should hit CC254 up & get details on the largest central eastern US body of water I know: Lake Cumberland, southern central KY, northeast out of Nashville. Dry county:eek: but with responsible 'adult' behavior, frosty libation consumption is acceptable. Exceptionally large areas for flotilla massing.....

Unfair home field advantage Jas, and that's 12+hrs away, PMC may have to sub-out some of the planning activities....

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1).

Patrick, let me know if you have any questions on sorting out the wiring diagram / sizing stuff. I did a lot of research on it, and cornered a couple of my electrical engineers on the design. #1 thing, have LOTS of extra fuse spaces....you will be amazed at what you add! Voltage drop is also a big issue with some electronics...and make sure your wire size / fuse sizes are matched.....to big of a fuse with a small wire can cause you to "cook" something.

Couple of us have been kicking around a Texas, / OK, / anyone who wants to meet up, event for next year....still working on the details, but I will get it posted when we have it sorted out. It seems like everyone needs 6 months notice to fit it in....Birthdays, kids events, travel, etc... A couple of us met up year before last, it was a great time!

Keep up the work, summer will be here sooner than you think!

Hey P,
I must admit to wondering; after I saw your video with the schematic diagrams and various figures and ciphers that this project must be spilling over into the work week; I wonder just how your fellow barristers must be captivated by your seeming transformation into the boat-smith. I'm sure the party of the first part and the party of the second part still get fine representation and/or cross examination but don't you find working on the boat in some way to be some of your most enjoyable hours (aside from family time of course)?
Keep up the fine work and your enthusiasm. I'm still following your epic tail though I am a fuge from my garage's harsh arctic climate. Fingers are crossed that your transom rebuild goes well.

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1).

Can't believe you are flatening out the transom like that. Seems to me it would add stress in other places by pulling in the transom to your center interior block. Think you should have built up the inside to the new piece and then built up the outside to make a flat spot in the center of the transom where the outdrive would mount. But what do I know!;)

Just hate to see you change the shape of a classic hull design. The curved transoms on the Chris Crafts really adds to the appeal of the boat imo.

He couldn't chris....

The merc transom not only needs to be flat....but the thickness must be the same throughout the key hole....or the boat would leak...
This is known as flatness and parallelism.
The flatness must be the same on both the inner side and the out side....
As well.....the parallelism needs to be the same through out the thickness of the transom......so if he goes for the two inch thickness of a transom....it must be exactly 2 inches thick on every place on the transom....it cannot be out as much as 1/8th of an inch....or the inner and outer plates will not align correctly......he will have some play...as the outer gasket will take up some slack....but this is only 1/16th of an inch.

The actual flatness of the transom on the out side, will be limited to the area directly around the exterior of the bell/ gymball housing. So the classic lines of the hull will not be noticed very much.
If he fairs it correctly....it will take a pro to know that he modified the transom to accept the alpha package.

LOL looks like I got some interest amongst the iboaters community. It would be nice to get together some time. I love to travel and spend alot of the summer months just doing that. I already have commitments for this summer and next we have a big wedding to get ready for. But maybe someday we can get something off the ground. Myself we talk about our next project all the time , just in case we decide to upgrade or stick to our manageable size boat for us. So we will be around for awhile and hopefully someday it will happen and we get to meet some fellow iboaters.

Thanks! - Glad to have you on board...

Patrick, let me know if you have any questions on sorting out the wiring diagram / sizing stuff.

Thanks Arch... Will do! I have a read a couple of really good books, so I am getting there... However, I think its sort of like fiberglassing... All the reading in the world has limited value until you actually do it. Will definitely hit you up if I have some questions...

Hydra is back! All is right in the world. Yeah, I am pretty much obsessed with the boat right now... And, yes, I am really enjoying it.

Wow, thanks for the compliments... Oops, I was running low on time -- Youtube only allows 10 minute clips at a time (unless you are special like friscoboater), so I had to edit out the part where I spent a good minute or two giving you props for coaching me through this... Seriously guys, all that stuff about running plumb lines and making sure my transom faced the middle of the boat was Oops inspired.... Thanks, buddy, would still be staring at this boat in my driveway and scratching my head and saying "what the hell do I do now" if it was not for this web-site and all you guys jumping on board to help me.

Thanks WOG, will read it ASAP... appreciate you sending me that.

Have a good day fellas... I'll check in after work at some point.

Hey brutha!

The meeting thing would be super cool! When I restored my 69 Barracuda, I was in the BOG, Barracuda Owners Group, a forum on the net sorta like this... I did 3-4 trips to car shows around the country meeting members... good stuff!

Maybe someplace smack dab in the middle of the US? I'd tow the Imperial 1000 miles, for an iboats weekend of fun and boating!

Anyhow, lets chat about wiring and other boat smack via the phone sometime this week... PM me a good time in the evening...

Later bro-

Hey Patrick, I don't remember seeing but didja ever have any luck selling the stringer driveline? I havn't had any bites on mine yet. You would think that as problematic as they are that people are always looking for parts. Anyways, take care my friend
