I hereby humbly request admission to the Starmada. Remind me who I need to PM about the hat! Gotta have one now! Heck, I wanted one before, but I felt too guilty. Like wearing a H/D jacket and driving a Camry.

Many thanks to barato2 for posting the craigslist ad to jasoutside's thread! I would have never have found it without the post. This was the only picture on the listing that barato2 linked to back on 2/7

Didn't look like much, but thanks to this forum, I knew what a 21' Chieftain OB was. :D

The seller Jose, was great. He and his son helped my friend and I get her hitched, wired, strapped and even the hubs greased, before we even talked money/paperwork. He even gave me the grease gun and an extra tube of grease in case we had a problem on the road. We didn't. The tandem axle, full roller trailer is in great shape and the hubs never warmed up at all on our 320 mile return trip.

The boat is obviously 40 years old, but fortunately it's not all rotten.
The transom, of course, is shot. The deck is getting soft, and I am guessing there is a bunch of waterlogged foam underneath it. The support wood in the cabin is in surprisingly good condition! The aft wall of the cabin is rotten at the bottom and the seat boxes are in pretty poor shape, and not original. All glass is good except for the front two lower windshield pieces, which are plexiglass installed with a liberal application of sillycone.

The Tower of Power 115 supposedly ran last year. (Jose was nice, but I'll believe it when I see and hear it) and the steering is nice and smooth. The controls are there and intact, though disconnected from the motor... The battery is gone and I haven't even gotten around to seeing if the original tank was being used, or if there is a line going to a now missing portable tank.

I want to have it somewhat usable this season if possible, so my first courses of action will be A) using the thread here on reviving dormant outboards to see if I can get the Merc to fire and B) replacing the transom. Along with part A will be getting the electrical system to at least power the motor and whatever legal requirements that entails. (lights, horn, etc.)

All 3 lights are there as are the horns, and most everything else, so I'm very excited to get this going!
The TnT is partially there, but very not operational.
Fortunately the I6 Tower of Power really is good at being the Leverage of Power also. It's a heck of a lot easier to tilt by hand while standing then it is to tilt my 15hp Merc while sitting on the bench of my little boat!

Now onto some subpar quality pics from our phones.

You know who your true friends are when you can call and say, "want to drive your truck 13 hours round trip to pick up a boat with me tomorrow?" and they say yes.
That's him in the pic. Best friend a guy could ever ask for and the only guy that will ever be allowed to take this (or even my other) boat out without me. He's moving 6 hours South later this week and I'll be leaving this boat with him for periods of time without any second thoughts.

Thanks guys!
The color was a sign. Now I'm going to have to make my dad put a hitch on his '29 Ford.

Don't know how those barely legal Hoosiers would do on a wet ramp, though! :D Lotsa smoke!

Great looking boat, and welcome to the Starmada, it almost makes the suburban look small.

Fantastic find. You must keep the yellow. Do a compression check on the Merc, check the electrical carefully as that's the weak spot on older Mercs. I bet it runs.

Awesome and congrats! I wanted that boat bad and had several converstations with the wife about it. If my SS wasn't so far along it would be up for sale and I would have been wrenching on that yellow one! I am glad that it went to a good home, and even happier that I get to see this boat gain a new lease on life and instead of spending my money, I can watch you spend yours.

That boat looks really nice though. Way nicer than the CL ad that I looked at everyday. Good score and good luck! What did you get it for? He told me he was firm.

I paid the $800 he was asking and didn't even bother with the other parts 1150. It was crowded enough on the way back in the car and if there's a big problem with the one that's on it I'll probably look into a somewhat newer motor for it.
The hull is super straight with just a couple small dents in it. Lots of little cosmetic issues but I should be able to do enough to have her in the water some this summer before really gutting it next fall/winter.

hey, congrats and welcome. i'm glad to see her getting some love as opposed to being butchered like so many boats in NM are. that yellow really grabs ya. oh, and humility is not needed when you own a big Chief....more like sit at the "flying bridge" and be lord of all you survey, waving at passing Berts, Hatterases and Ryboviches as you sneer down at the jet skis. what a heck of a deal, even with an extra 2-300 in gas. and tell your dad i like his taste in axes.

where's your bud moving? anywhere near EP?

It really is pretty gigantic! Especially compared to most of the little boats around here!
I've got a few too many projects right now myself, but I couldn't let this one go!

Congratulations! Nice boat. Nice Ford. I like that Dobro too.
Good luck with it.
Thanks! My dad built the car from random spare parts over about a ten year period. He picked up the dobro when he gave up the drums, and I took his drums!

The Tahoe made pretty good mileage, even with the 40-50mph winds. Under $200 in gas and he had 3/4 tank when we got home.
Don is the audio engineer for Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, and Jimmie Dale Gilmore with their band, the Flatlanders, and all their side projects. He's moving to Austin because that's where all my musician and hippie friends move. :D
Unlike most of them, he actually has a job!!!

Great looking Chief.

That first pic makes me think of Noah's Ark laying up in the mountains, only on a trailer.

Hope the Merc fires up for you.

The weird angle on the pic makes it look like its sitting bow down, but if you look at the wall on the right edge of the picture you can see where the camera was tilted. Sitting up a mountain, the bow was quite high on the air and the plug was out.
the best news is that my GF loves it! The cabin will end up really pretty.
I'm more interested in replacing the transom and getting that Merc fired up!
