That's the exact layout of my "Blue Flamingo" I think you are spot on in your thinking and if I were closer, I'd come over and we'd have it done in an afternoon. Go For It!!!!!!!

Wood .. thanks for the offer to help. If you were closer I know it would be done in an afternoon and done right. On your Blue Flamingo how does your bilge pump exit ..... thru the hull or over the top? I have seen it both ways.

Hey Ed ..... that is a good idea. I would like to use square tubing but how would I attach it to the hull and transom? Maybe use PL for the bottom to the hull and screws into the transom? I sure hate the thought of putting screws into the new transom. I'll have to think on that one but I like the idea.

Hey Jon Sob,
Are you putting in any type of floation foam in. I would try to put in some limber holes in case any water does get below the deck. If you do decide to use limber holes, I would use something like pvc that you can put a plug in while in the water and remove after you trailer your boat. I would go over the top and not use the thru hull.

I've never had to use a bilge pump. But if I was going to, I'd plumb it with 3/4" flex tube and port it out the side of the hull under the gunwale at the rear. As for your Bilge, No screws needed. Here's a drawing of how Mine is built and how I'd recommend you do yours.

Crappy pic of mine when I first got her. You can see the side Drain tube. Another one on the other side you can't see.

Here's how it should be built.

Hey Kent .... I was planning on using the foam sheets from HD or Lowes for floatation. I am sure you have seen this pic.

Wood thanks for the drawing ... that is the way I will do it. I have a question, both you and Kent mentioned to use pvc pipe and a plug or cap. Why would you want to put a cap on these? I would think that you would want the water to go into the bilge wether on the trailer or the water. I am missing something.

Well.... If, I mean, When water gets in via rain, or splashing or Transom Wash Over, or what ever via "Deck Side", you don't want water going under the deck via these tubes. So they are Only there in case of a puncture to the hull or deck allowing water under the deck in an Unwanted case. Make sense???

It does make sense but ..... I was thinking that if these holes were plugged and you were to get a puncture in the hull, you would be taking on water and you wouldn't know it 'cause the bilge would be dry. You have to remember that I am a newby so I may have been looking at it all wrong.

When you are on the water and you want to pull the plugs you can, but....It works both ways. I trust my hull unless I hit something then I might take em out to see if anything is coming in.

Ok ... that makes sense. If you puncture your hull then you hit something pretty hard and you'll know it. Got ya. Thanks for clearing that up for me ... LOL

If you puncture the hull and the limber holes are capped you would trap the water between the hull and the sole. This could prevent the boat from swamping.
If you leave the limber holes open this would let the water escape and flood the boat. This would only be correct if the puncture was below the sole of the boat. Leaving the limger holes open when the boat is out of the water will also let fresh air in to cirulate and keep it dry.

The foam you are going to use should also be good. If water does get in under the sole the foam should allow the water to drain out to the bilge. This foam is not suppost to obsorb water.

Thanks Kent, you made another good point .... I guess I didn't think about what Wood said that it works both ways.

Picked up a set of back to back seats from craigs list. May have to change the color of the boat 'cause the seats are a different blue and not sure how they would go with the biscayne blue that I had intended on using on the boat. I am going to use grey vinyl to cover the sole so I know that will match the seats but not sure about the darker blue seats matching the biscayne blue cap.

Also, does anyone have a good cleaner that I can use on these seats? I tried scrubbing them with dish soap and hot water but need something stronger. You can see they have marks on them that I can't get off.

Over the years I have tried just about everything out there. I have finally came up with my own home brew that I use on all my awnings, canvases, vinyls etc.
I mix TSP, Simple Green and a squirt of Dawn into a 3 gal pail of warm water.

1. Wet the area
2. Brush in the mixture to loosen the grunge
3. Wait.....
4. Scrub clean with more mixture.
5. Rinse and rinse again

Simple Green and Dawn both leave a detergent residue, so I rinse real good. My results have been great. I leave an awning up all season long and it get filthy! Looks almost new when I'm done.

Works for me! :)

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics

Threw a rope over the old tree limb out back and flipped the boat without any problems.

Started planning out the bilge box but kind of ran into a problem. I forgot about those lateral ribs. Do I notch the box to fit over the ribs or do I notch the ribs so the box sits flat on the hull? Do I grind the rib out from inside the box or just leave it there?

Sure could use some advise on this one.
