Super sharp. I didn't realize how small that boat was. It's a little sports boat! It very well may move fairly respectably with the 9.9 and will be a blast with something bigger.

Jon Sob
You did a fantastic job with the boat. You will be turning heads at the lake with this one.
Hope you have a great splash day and many more to come.
Glad you shared this restore with all of us. I enjoyed watching it all come together for you.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone .... You guys have all been a great help and she would still be sitting with a rotted transom if it weren't for all of your guidance. I am going to try and splash her before the weekend is over. I am going to take a video but not sure how to post it .... but I will figure that out later. Remember, I have never owned a boat before and this will be the first time putting a boat in the water so the video may look like a bad comedy skit ...lol.

Take at least a couple drain plugs, so hopefully you can find at least 1 prior to backing down the launch ramp:facepalm: And remove the transom straps:)

Be safe & enjoy. I haven't yet posted a video from photobucket, but I think it works the same, just copy the image tag under the icon, I think:

You could get the F/F painted in no time with that thing jbc !!:D
Jon don't sweat the first splash I have backed many boats down the ramp and still have to reposition every now and then.
I have no doubt you will do just fine!;)

Yeah, hard as nails, 2 part polyalphatic resin. <<-- Geek speak for epoxy-like paint, heck may even be epoxy. I am not a chemist:facepalm:

That was the 1st video I could find that was short enough not to take an hour to upload. The blue is truck bedliner material that was sprayed down the night before. I have used the gray roll down on fiberglass, rolled on ok but held the roller texturing (didn't relax & flow out to be very flat/smooth) and it will likely get sprayed on some fiberglass next week. I can tell you it is significantly harder to sand then gelcoat. Took forever w/ a 5"random orbital to remove 3 layers of it on a 13" X 16" wooden sample panel.....

Question .... does anybody know what this is for? The arrow on the right points to a screw and the other points to a lever on the throttle. The throttle lever hits this screw and doesn't allow it to open all the way. If I unscrew this a little will I get more rpm's? This is on my Merc 9.8

I know .... I know.... I should post this in the Merc section which I will if I get no answer here.

Just a SWAG - put it in gear and see if it will go full throttle. I know I've had at least one motor that had a stop to keep you from over reving in neutral.

The first bit of advice you'll probably get is to get a factory manual. Not a Merc guy so I'm not sure how different they are from Johnnyrudes but I wouldn't go loosening anything until I made sure that wasn't tied into the linkage that syncs the timing advance with the throttle. Any changes in that and you'll be making headaches for yourself.

I know the feeling sp ..... that's why I turn to iboats.

I agree with you totally TDF .... I do have a manual but couldn't find it in there probably because I don't know what it is called .... lol. I am worse then sp ..... my lawn mower misses and backfires pretty bad ... lol.

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics

Ok ..... today was splash day. I have been running the motor at home in a barrel and it seemed to start ok and run ok so I decided to take it out today and see what happens.

Put her in and let the motor idle while I was putting things in their place and she purred like a kitten. Managed to make a short video ( will attempt to post it later ) but stayed near the ramp. About 50 yds from shore and 20 minutes later the motor stalled. The motor would start but not idle very well and would stall at any attempt to put it in gear. This is where the next photo comes in:

I am sure you all have noticed the paddle. I was not a happy camper at this point.
The steering worked great and had no leaks and all was well except for the motor. I am sure it is just some type of adjustment or cleaning because it started every time but wouldn't idle.

I have an appointment in the morning at one of the local shops for a complete tune up.
