It's probably the same one used by Hatteras on their railings. I would think that although it might not be sitting new on a shelf somewhere there should be plenty of used one's around on the Chris Craft or Hatteras forums. Let us know how you make out with it...the moonshine not the railing. Hey priorities baby!! :p

I have been avoiding another forum. I spend to much time here as it is. I found a CC forum and posted a photo. I like repairing, or learning how to repair, things if I can.

In the photos it kind of looks like aluminum. What makes you think it's brass?
Knowing the type of metal will be key to repairing it. Aluminum can be welded and brass could probably be soldered or brazed. A Napa auto parts has all kinds of metal repair products in their catalog. You could then use a dremmel type tool to grind and polish so the repair would be less noticeable.

I enjoy repairing something too, instead of throwing it away, especially if it's old.

Take it off the rail. You'll know instantly, by the weight. Don't think I need ta tell ya which is which...;)

Thanks for the info, guys. I have determined it to be brass according to an owner of a Hatteras in the marina that has the same set up. I found one made of brass for $195. I took Greg's advice and posted to a CC forum and found the part I was looking for. I think I will take Swabbie's advice and take it to a machine shop and have it repaired. I really hope I don't have to remove it, veritas honus, it is screwed and glued on.

I solved the mystery (to me) about how the fuel sender works. It's all done magnetically. This is the bottom of the sensor which mounts on top of the sending unit. 2 screws and 2 wires, that's all there is to it! These older boats are fun.

I like a good rubbbing once in awhile, veritas honus, I even do it to myself! ;) Nah, Swabbie, she is for personal use only. If ya wanna go fishin' we go in the "Andrea C". If ya ever wanna go, send me a PM. I will gladly hook you up. :)

I went fishing yesterday for this part. Had to put on the scuba gear and fetch it off the bottom. Visability was 3". The endcap of this railing needs repaired. I really don't know what material it is made of. Non magnetic, appears to be brass. I am looking to get it repaired 'cause I don't think I can find one. Any ideas?

I don't know if it's the lighting , but that doesn't look like yellow brass, although I have seen some white brass.

How is that attached to the wood, threaded on or or glued with an epoxy. If you can get that end off without too much damage to the wood and it is brass you can build it up with braze and reshape it and re-drill it. I have done it to bronze flue damper actuators on big boilers after a couple teeth had broken off and they are still in operation.

By the way, looks like a fine boat, congrats on landing the job

Re: New Job, 501 Constellation, Good and Bad.

I was told it is chrome plated brass. It appears to be epoxyed on and secured with 2 screws. One way or another it looks like I'm going to have to remove it to have repaired or replaced. I guess later this week I'll take it to a machine shop and see what they can do with it.

Thanks for the help and congrats, tswiczko

^^^^WTF Mate??? Never seen one of thems before.

I agree, Greg, me neither!

Here is the unit that goes into the tank that the sensor screws into. Something new everyday! I found them made by Rochester Gauges out of Texas.

Heat should soften the epoxy, but you don't want to damage the wool or the varnish heat gun or oven would do just that. what you need is steam from a high pressure boiler, at 200psi it would be close to 385?F(don't have my tables handy so I may be a little off) a jet of that from a blow down valve directly on the bright work would soften the epoxy. As for the repair, I know you are handy, but don't know what your skill level is with that kind of fabricating so like you said, welding or machine shop may be your best bet, then rechrome. Good luck

What does the sending unit look like? Is it a straight tube with a floating collar on it that slides up and down...where the position of the collar changes the magnetic field and it registers through the sensor? Like these? http://wemausa.com/
