Re: New Job, 501 Constellation, Good and Bad.

I think you will be impressed with it. I used one for my daughters house because they like to move the TV around, especially out onto their porch when the weather is good. Sure beats running coax all over the place.

You got that right, Bubba. I will have it installed before the bossmans next boat trip. Thanks again!

I started doing some maintenance on the generator. Glad I did. I had bought some new hoses to replace the ones that looked aged. I found this raw water intake hose. Don't think it would last very long.

I'm surprised you were not sucking air instead of water the way that hose looks.

I think when we finally meet up, I'm gonna have Sasto crawl thru my engine room and find all the little things I missed...

Scary thought, nlain. The gen is now serviced and ready to go. Belts, hoses, filters, and fluids.

I am a little bilge rat! But no thanks...my weekend to take off the captain's hat and become a drunken sailor

Thanks veritas honus, I've worked for some wild and crazy owners before and this guy and his wife are cool straightshooters. I am proud to be his captain

Good to see you are still enjoying her Cap

I'm glad too, Capt Red :D

Here is where the hard part comes in. You guys are going to kill me for this. We are going to Palm Beach next month and I want her to look good. I just purchased some Poli-Glow for the topside.

The deck departments job is never done but nothing and I mean nothing stands as tall as a mejestic ol'gal when she marches into harbor standing tall.

Poli Glo? If it works, I'll be the last to knock it. Never used it so I have nothing bad to say about it. However, if you said you were ready to Vaseline the hull prior to leaving...

We had a member here (vegasphotoman) do his whole hull with poliglow. I don't remember the exact situation but I know he was initially thrilled with it but then it went bad somehow and they had to strip it all off. It was in his sleekcraft restore thread on here.

I'm betting a week's pay that I can help out with that... but I'm sure you don't need any help!

Eloquently said, Capt Red. Gives me chills!

I did use some vaseline on a boot stripe on our old boat. Learned it right here on iboats.

Appreciate your concern, ezmobee. I did read some threads about this product and had mixed feelings about the stuff. I threw the idea around the marina and found a guy with a beautiful 65 footer that used it a year ago and she looks fantastic. The whole boat needs buffing and waxing and I have more importrant items to take care of at this time. Give me a year and I'll be happy.

I'll practice up on it before the meet, Fireman.

Well I finally got her shined up and we headed to Palm Beach. Here she is at Palm Beach, home of the rich and famous. I'm poor and imfamous....what am I doing here! I'm figuring on applying more sealant about once a month or so. I really hope this works for me, because the next step will be a haul-out and an AwlGrip paint job. Trying to save the bossman some money. That's my job.

Along the way we passed Dale Earnhardt's (Theresa's) boat, "Sunday's Money".

Then Greg Normans home.

And the Jupiter Lighthouse.

I'm proud of my mate (Kimi) in the way she handled lines and fenders. She also helped me by taking the wheel. She also helped me keep an eye on 2 young beauties we had on the bow. If boaters weren't honking, cars along the ICW were.

PS: I will do better next time in editing Kimi's photos, a little smaller....ya think!

Great pics. Got a kick out of "Sundays Money".

Does the "bossman" ever drive the boat himself?

Don't think we'll be going to Palm Beach in our jon boat anytime soon.

Sunday money was a side job for Earnhardt. Clever name.... huh Swabbie.

Nah, the bossman doesn't want to have anything to do with running his boat. He enjoys hanging out on the flybridge, gettin' some sun. He is knowledgeable about boating and has more expierence than years I've been alive. Sometimes it's better to let young'uns like us take over. :D Don't you agree.

If you want to stop by and pick me up in your jon boat, we could put some fear in that town. Property values will go down, they will hold a meeting, and send us back to the boat.

The Constellation looks great, nice work:)

Glad to hear you are having some fun. Half of what you post makes being a boat captain sound like the greatest job in the world, and the other half shows me how much there is to learn about maintaining a large vessel.

Very informative and interesting. Not an easy job by any means, despite the fact that you make it seem so.:D

The "Bossman" is one lucky guy.

Sounds like a plan to me. We can buy some really nice property for pennies on the dollar. My rig is almost brand new, it's ready to travel. :D

I don't know about you but....God willing some day I'm going to meet this interesting character who has graced these pages named Sasto, aka Captain Mike. :)

That's great, Capt Red. Where are you fishing out of? I haven't been offshore in a couple months, but my friends have, and catching plenty of Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi), Sailfish and Swardfish at night. Good time of the year for palegics.

It's not always as glamorous as it looks, Huron Angler. I do enjoy working on them, start my day when I feel like it, quit when I feel like it. But the same as you out fishing....Mother Nature doesn't cooperate, mechanical and electrical problems when least expected, many things can go wrong. Keeping everybody onboard happy is sometimes difficult.

I would encourage you to look into being a captain. Not for everybody, but maybe for you as much as you love the water and love to fish. I started in my late 20's working in a stockroom of a yacht builder. I had no idea what a bilge pump was! You will not become rich but it ceartainally will enrichen your life. Good luck, my friend, in whatever you do. :D

Traveling down the ICW in a jon boat with you Swabbie going to Palm Beach for me...would be a blast. ;)

While you enjoy my thread, I enjoy the others. The restorations, the rebuilds, guys solving others problems. I knew little about small boats and have learned more here on iboats in a short period than anywhere else.

I also hope to meet you someday. My home is open. Plan on a vacation here someday. I just finished reading the book you sent me yesterday. Brought back some wonderful memories of that beautiful place in the Carib. Thanks again, bro.

Some boats are TIMELESS. Parking that older Chris Craft next to anything new, and I would take the look and style of the Chris Craft all day, hands down! She appears to be in reletively good shape, and the work your putting into it is only going to add years to it's life!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, 25thmustang.....I think she loves me. ;) Boats to me are like stuffed animals to children, I sometimes feel like she is alive and talks to me. I don't think I'm the only one around that feels this way about their boat. If I am....call me crazy :D.

I replaced the old water heater and doing some plumbing for the relief valve to her today.

On the last trip I noticed the temps on both engines start to rise above 1800rpm (cruising speed). Everything up to the raw water pump had been gone over. Bottom clean, seastrainers clean, new hoses. My next step was the impellers. Found the culprit. After replacing them, and the housings I need to go to the heat exchanger and retrieve the pieces that are more than likely lodged in there.

But some good news.....I cleaned the turbo vanes 3 trips and 18 hours ago. I was happy to see them still clean. The 2 year old diesel fuel held it's ground and appears to be burning well. This, along with the transom being clean of soot gives me a good indication that all is burning and breathing satisfactory.
