Re: New Job, 501 Constellation, Good and Bad.
I got back from there about 4 this morning, picked a boat for fishing charters.
That's great, Capt Red. Where are you fishing out of? I haven't been offshore in a couple months, but my friends have, and catching plenty of Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi), Sailfish and Swardfish at night. Good time of the year for palegics.
The Constellation looks great, nice work
Glad to hear you are having some fun. Half of what you post makes being a boat captain sound like the greatest job in the world, and the other half shows me how much there is to learn about maintaining a large vessel.
Very informative and interesting. Not an easy job by any means, despite the fact that you make it seem so.
It's not always as glamorous as it looks, Huron Angler. I do enjoy working on them, start my day when I feel like it, quit when I feel like it. But the same as you out fishing....Mother Nature doesn't cooperate, mechanical and electrical problems when least expected, many things can go wrong. Keeping everybody onboard happy is sometimes difficult.
I would encourage you to look into being a captain. Not for everybody, but maybe for you as much as you love the water and love to fish. I started in my late 20's working in a stockroom of a yacht builder. I had no idea what a bilge pump was! You will not become rich but it ceartainally will enrichen your life. Good luck, my friend, in whatever you do.
The "Bossman" is one lucky guy.
Sounds like a plan to me. We can buy some really nice property for pennies on the dollar. My rig is almost brand new, it's ready to travel.
I've been on this forum for two yrs. and this is by far the most interesting thread going.
I don't know about you but....God willing some day I'm going to meet this interesting character who has graced these pages named Sasto, aka Captain Mike.
Traveling down the ICW in a jon boat with you Swabbie going to Palm Beach for me...would be a blast.
While you enjoy my thread, I enjoy the others. The restorations, the rebuilds, guys solving others problems. I knew little about small boats and have learned more here on iboats in a short period than anywhere else.
I also hope to meet you someday. My home is open. Plan on a vacation here someday. I just finished reading the book you sent me yesterday. Brought back some wonderful memories of that beautiful place in the Carib. Thanks again, bro.
