Issue 4, if passed gives the smoking right to businesses to decide.

It failed.

Issue 5, if passed, makes it illegal to smoke in any public place in the state.

It passed.

My guess, other states will soon follow suit, if they have not already.

Let the biotching minority begin.

Smoking is a lot like farting- it's only fun if you're the one doing it.

Re: Ohio issues 4 and 5 on smoking

I may have quit smoking, but I think it should have been left up to the business. Not sure if this is correct, but on TV this morning one spokesperson said if it is a family owned business smoking maybe allowed. Sounds as if they were saying that this was to protect the employees of the business as well as the patrons.

I just want to know what is next on the list of stuff to limit the public from. Seems as if everyone wants to protect everyone from themselves. However when they get on the highways/streets with their vehicle, they don't give a damn about nobody but themselves. Maybe that is why over 40,000 die each year on our highways. Preventable by any measure. Some cry about how many soldiers die each day while the total state side is 100's more each day.

California is outlawing smoking on the beaches. I know there is rationale in that but it escapes me.

France just moved to outlaw smoking outside...probably thinking it is going to help solve global warming or something like that.

I believe it's because smokers use the beach as an ashtray and just toss the cigarette butt on the beach. I have been on the beach so many times and find a bunch of stuffed out cigarette butts all grouped together in the sand. Yech!

It is now officially illegal to smoke in any PRIVATE business in Arizona.

Somehow, that doesn't sit well. The iniative created a whole new agency (smoking police) to enforce it.

Whatever one thinks of smoking, that's your business, However, non smoking "zealots" are going to force legitimate businesses out.

Tell me how that is good?

I don't smoke, never have.
Politicians have no B**LS to ban tobacco because it is a cash cow.

For what ever reasons, the electorate has decided that they now prefer more government regulation in their lives. The electorate gets what it wants.

Anti-Smokers gloat all you want now, the nazis are coming after your vice next. Smoking ban is only the beginning.

Re: Ohio issues 4 and 5 on smoking

I have been a smoker for over 40 years and a bit combative longer.

However, I don't believe a smoker has the right to inflict his habit/weakness on another. Consequently, I have no problem not being allowed to smoke in a public place and I'll go outside to smoke. No problem.

I also support any measure that will prevent people from leaving their trash behind them. On a beach or elsewhere.

But, when I am outside, I get pretty darned militant when someone looks down their nose at me and rudely tells me not to smoke in their presence.

I believe my right to smoke ends where their nose begins and they would be best advised to move their nose. :|

Regarding banning global warming:
Not a possibility, judging from the long-winded, pompous and pretentious comments posted by some of our liberal forum members.

rmmpe,

If all smokers had an attitude similar to yours, Ohio and other states would not have to take control on this issue.d:)

There are others though that believe they can do what they want, when they want, where they want regardless of whom it may affect.

Smokers are rude. All of them.

I take that back. I think there are maybe four polite smokers. I'll bet they all participate on this board too!

Smokers think the whole world is an ashtray. Pick up your trash you slobs. I have yet to meet a smoker who admits to throwing their butts on the ground however... While I am on this rant- why doesn't big tobacco make biodegradable filters?

And what's with this smoking three feet from the door issue? Can't you walk five more feet? Why do I have to walk through your little cloud of stench and pollution at every doorway I encounter? Nothing makes me happier than letting a fart as I walk past someone smoking in the doorway.

Have a nice day.

Oh boy, someone has an attitude. I do not lump all together, as you do. Pigs are pigs, smoker or non. I don't like Starbucks cups being thrown out the window either. You Starbucks drinkers are good at that.

The real issue is a business allowing the act, or NOT. If not, it becomes the "Nanny State".

If a business allows it, YOU have the choice to enter-or NOT. Nobody's rights are hamapered by that stance.

How about the people who work there?
It ain't gonna kill anyone to go outside & smoke.....
I have seen many people do that & survive with no visible physical harm.....
Other than coughing & hacking , that is......JK
