Re: ok winter....enough already!!!!

Last year this time, I had my heater off for a month alreadly. According to the weatherman I may see some snow when I got to work tomorrow morning. The good thing is the lake level is going up. Bad thing, my boat is still in drydock.

Re: ok winter....enough already!!!!

At least the begining of the year you got off reasonably light, so you will probably balance out when the snow finaly stops.
Do you track total plowed driveways, hours, fuel per year? run them on excel spread sheat and compare to last year.

Some, not all the accounts will balance out. I'm already going backwards on some of them. Every time I plow those accounts I'm making less and less. Even to the point less than what I would charge if I did them per time.

As far as tracking, I could, but I don't. I don't want to micro manage myself. I have enough headaches at times. I can get a good idea comparing one year to the next by just looking at how many times I plowed in a given year as a whole. I have a computer printout of my route that I use each time I plow. I just count up the sheets, compare that to the balance in my account and know right away whether I had a good year or not. Approximates are close enough for me. As long as the bills get payed and I have money in my pocket, I'm doing alright..... I don't need to track every little thing, nor do I want to......... So as far a last year to this year, I'm still ahead of the game....

oh for joy, more rain coming and prob flooding rivers. just got my basement dried out. Fri low of 30 sounds great.....NOT.

Heck, our hi's haven't got out of the 30s lately..........

Interesting. Around here everybody I know of charges by the trip.

Maybe they plow less and it's just easier to charge per time?

I have about a 50/50 mix of per time and pay for the season customers. It seems to work well. I get a big chunk of $ at the beginning of the season which helps build up my account. And, if I need more equipment the money is there. Also, it's nice if we have a lean season I'm guaranteed X amount of dollars. It's a gamble for me and my customers. On the plus side, the customer knows exactly what they'll pay that season. The other 50% makes it nice to have $s coming in all winter.

At my Tahoe House, that I rent out for vacation rentals, I have the option to pay per plow or pay a season rate. I pay the season rate since they just automatically come out once there is 6" of snow. They only use snowblowers on the driveways. Most people do what I do and pay by the season.

Been running the A/C, just to cool off at night.

Little "chilly" today at 68*. Has been 90* in the afternoons, lately. We'll survive.;)

Remember, it's "cyclical". It was 80*, where you are, about that time last year.

Good one, nwcove! I need to stop watching the local forecasts. Now it's up to 12". They keep increasing it as the storm approaches..... Truck is gassed and ready to go...........

All of the HS sports have been cancelled up to this point so far this spring too.........

Sounds like poor planning on the school board's part, if they didn't budget in enough $$ to outfit all athletes with snowshoes.

Re: ok winter....enough already!!!!

This weather is insane! 39 degrees last night. In the 40s now. Highs in the 60s. We are used to 80s and lows in the 60s by now. 70s/40s forecast all this week. Of course the chill factor goes up when the boat is moving and the wind is blowing. I can't remember this happening in the past. But then again, I can't remember where I put my car keys half the time LOL
On the good side, we have had plenty of rain and the Lakes are close to being full :D

80/60 -- that would be July for us.

I'd settle for 60/40 this time of year.

Just finished plowing 16" from the last storm. It's been the snowiest April and 5th snowiest winter. Amazing since we had a late start. We're only 11" from breaking the winter record, which may happen.

Tonites forecast, more Wed. As rogerwa said, this is not funny. I'm ready to leave..................
