1986 johnson 200 (if you check my other posts you can probably see why i want to back this thing throught the jerk off's house that sold it to me)
So i did a cold compression test a few weeks ago just because i bought a tester and was fooling around, and i got mostly 90's and an 80. Well the thing has been running hot so i changed out the vernatherms because they were toast and i was trying to keep it cheap. When we water tested it, it still got hot and was shooting steam out the tell tale and it died. So I pulled out the thermoatat all together to get any water flow i could and waited 20 minutes for it to cool down(as if I had a coice!) and brought it back to the ramp. I decided to check out the impeller, and the silver cup had sheared the alignment peg and spun enough to cover half the hole.
Well i replaced the impeller and the cup and when i fired it up, it was only running on one bank. It sputters and won't run less than 1200 or 1300rpm or it will stall. I did another compression check and this time got 85,80,75 on the port bank and 70,75,70 on the starboard (non firing) bank. Could i have warped the heads on the last water test and that is the reason its not firing on one bank? I havent tried switching the power pack yet because i had to re-pull the LU. Turns out the guy that put it back together (me) used the wrong woodruff key and it spun it out. I need to get this thing figured out because I haven't had any fun yet as a boat owner, just lots and lots of disappointment.
