The next person / shopper in line will buy it if the shop has a good reputation.----Post # 60 says that there are not many used motors in your area.-----So think about claiming that one before the next shopper does that.

Very good point. Outboards in that horsepower
range go like hot cakes around here. And the shop is 3rd generation Johnson\Evinrude guru owned. The man is a walking encyclopedia on every single part of every motor produced. Pretty cool, i think

Yeah, someone else I was talking to was saying that price is pretty much premium top retail. I may try and negotiate a little bit. But yes, the prop is in good shape, he claimed it's a motor that has been in for regular maintenance over the years. I know it will come with the controls and everything needed for the tilt and trim, but I'm not sure about a tachometer. I am going to give him a call once they open today.d

I did not ask if the prop was in good shape...that doesnt mayter one bit if it's the wrong pitch. Ask if they will supply a prop of the proper pitch for your boat. Not the prop that's on it.

I got what you meant. I just figured with the man knowing pretty much everything there is to know about these motors and installation, that the prop would be correct. And I would also imagine he would try and up sell me the correct one if it was not. But, good observation, I'll make sure to ask him about that the next time we speak. I went ahead and gave him the thumbs-up to get it ready on the stand for me

Actually, hes got such a large inventory, willing to bet he'd include the correct prop with purchase. Good point-out 👍🏼👍🏼

Hi guys.

Figured id do a post update to thank everyone and share the info. Im back up and running after making the decision and purchasing the new to me 48hp SPL.
The 87 40hp that i ran into the rocks....well, clutch dog was completely annihilated. Looks like a bomb went off in that lower. It was millimeters away from blasting pieces of gear right thru the case. Crazy.

Anyways. Lesson learned. I was able to get the correct propeller and also outfitted myself with a tachometer with the wiring going right into the aux plug on my console.Thing runs 10x better, fast, quiter, all around good. Last question i have for now before we can close is, am I correct reading tach should be set to 6 on the "pole"/"rev" selector on the back? Noticed i was only achieving 4500 RPM on the first test run out. The boat man had it set at 5 when installed, but it was last minute and in a hurry. Obviously I want it running the best it can, so was just looking for some clarification there.

Thanks again to everyone. Lots of good information shared in this post.
