GOP Bristles at Pelosi Plane Request



WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republicans on Wednesday assailed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's request for access to an Air Force transport plane as an extravagance, though former Speaker Dennis Hastert flew in a military jet as well.

Republicans are taking issue with the size of the plane Pelosi has requested. Pelosi had asked for access to a C-32 plane, a military version of the Boeing 757-200.

A Defense Department spokesman said Wednesday that the Pentagon informed Pelosi's staff that she would be provided with a plane but that its size would be based on availability.

After the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Pentagon agreed to provide the House speaker, who is second in the line of presidential succession, with a military plane for added security during trips back home.

Hastert, an Illinois Republican, flew in a small commuter-sized jet. Pelosi and her aides say that because her congressional district is in California, her security would require a larger plane that can fly coast to coast without refueling.

Oh, didn't you know that that only applies to the proletariate? Commisars are exempt from the rules they try to impose on others. Case in Point. King Albert rides around in Suburbans and private jets without a hint of concience. But if the proletariate does that, oh there will be hell to pay.

The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is pressing the Bush administration for routine access to military aircraft for domestic flights, such as trips back to her San Francisco district, according to sources familiar with the discussions.
The sources, who include those in Congress and in the administration, said the Democrat is seeking regular military flights not only for herself and her staff, but also for relatives and for other members of the California delegation. A knowledgeable source called the request "carte blanche for an aircraft any time."

Leave it to "Fancy Nancy".... we need oversight, responsible government, and fiscal responsibility...... unless it's my perks... Keep it up Libs, it will be a landslide in 2008.

You Heard the BS, now how about the truth? That was initiated by the House Sergeant at Arms and according to the attached article he has been on the job since 1995.here is a snippet of what he had to say.

In fact, the plane used by Speaker Hastert was too small for Pelosi since it “needs to refuel every 2,000 miles and could not make the nonstop haul to California. ‘The Air Force determined that [Pelosi’s] safety would be best ensured by using a plane that has the fuel capacity to go coast-to-coast,’” a Pelosi spokesperson said.>>

So, how does having to land to refuel make Pelosi anymore in danger than Hastert? She could land at Hastert's home airport to refuel. I know if we are actually attacked and by some act of god she becomes president, I don't want her to be able to get to Calipornia to sign her pre-prepared surrender papers.

Plane Pelosi requested would carry 50 people - leaves a lot of room for perks to supporters .... Air Force told her she would have a plane, but would not guarrantee size and she was limited to 10 traveling with her.

Apparently to Pelosi size DOES matter!

Why can't anyone defend Lil' Nancy's need for a 200 person airliner for her personal needs. Fiscal responsibility? I am sure someone can twist reality to make this palletable to some. I wish the public would provide me with a plane that has a bed for my travel needs.

Lets see now how the libs are not interested in lowering the debt, president Clinton in the year 2000, paid $216 billion in debt, bringing It to $355 billion, the amount of the nations debt paid down in the three years since the government balanced the budget. I do believe that I have heard President Clinton being referred to as a lib on this forum?

Now lets compare that to what the present occupant of the White House is doing, don’t think that many people would call him a lib.

The President wants to cut spending, now that he has run the country to the brink of bankruptcy. I don’t even know how many zeros are in a $2.9 trillion budget, yet the President wants to cut Medicare, Medicaid and the federal health insurance for children. That $2.9 trillion budget doesn’t include the $141.7 billion "supplemental" request for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It also doesn’t include the $22.5 billion in defense spending that is controlled by other agencies.

Yet President Bush wants the 2001 tax cuts made permanent (at a 10-year cost of $1.6 trillion) and projects a $61 billion surplus by 2012, three years after he leaves office. Sure looks like voodoo economics to me as his old pappy said, run two wars and a possible third war, and cut taxes.

No I don’t think libs are trying to have class warfare especially in a country where ten percent of the population owns 71 percent of the wealth, and the bottom 40 percent owned less that 1 percent, that would be a fool’s battle.

Lets look at this from another direction, The top 1% had average wealth of $15 million per family in contrast to the $22,800 average wealth of the least wealthy 50% of families or the $313,500 in wealth for families ranked between 50% and 90%. Your stating class warfare, if so looks like I lost the battle.
