Re: Pontoon Seat Rebuild and Reupholstery Job

So today I worked to solve a design flaw I had....when I arranged the legs I failed to realize I would need 2 in this corner to hold the lid catch boards....the back catch lays over the back leg and the side leaving nothing for my side catch to lay on in the back

So I took the back catches and side catches and a dado blade and 2 hours of table saw work later...had all the corners cut to do a lap joint

the 2 join like this and will be glued with PL premium essentially making it a solid piece all the way around

fun stuff...but solves the missing leg problem

Wow the seats are looking great. I was hoping to ask you a question about this project. How did you or going to fit the foam? I'm in the process of building a new bench in my boat, going for the supper-sport seating instead of the jump seat route. I have built the base of the seat from wood already but what gets me how to plan the foam to get the raised edge that would go under a persons knees to make them feel a little more held into the seat. I noticed that the old seats that you are doing had the same idea im trying to go for. This is complete new design so I don't have the old vinyl/foam to use as a template. Any help you got for me would be much appreciated.

the way the old seats were set up was each cushion was wrapped and stapled separately to the backing board, I did not like this since it left a 3" deep pocket around/between each cushion to collect dirt, moisture, mold etc. so talked my customer into doing away with the style. bucket seats that don't wrap and lay flat on their own can be glued down in that section to hold it down

No I have not abandoned this...just figured you guys would be bored of epoxy pictures, due to a serious lack of working space, epoxying these benches has been very time consuming (a problem that is being rectified soon!) so anyhow, to make more space I moved the benches onto my patio (forced remedy due to a pipe busting in my wall and flooding my basement), and got to lay out a larger amount of pieces at once this way...so finally...

the last 7 pieces are being done...wished I could have fit these 7 with the last batch....

this is how the corner joints worked out for me to create the lid catch

piles of benches! next stop fitting cushions and wrapping em up!

so that's where I stand at this moment, should move a lot faster with the actual sewing!

Hmmm, pending congrats then. Need a mule? Apparently we have a spare one, but of course the wife thinks it's me:confused:

But I am housebroken & moderately useful around the house.

Just don't give me access to a trailer hitch. Or leave me unattended for too long <<---Either of those will tend to rapidly escalate your lack of space problem.... :)

Hope the upholstery takes off for you once you've got some room to work & stay out of the Admiral's hair.

bleh, I guess I can let the secret out since I do have a signed contract and unlike the house I was looking at nothing stands in the way now.....needless to say I will not lack for room to work anymore...here is a link to the listing

http://www.ozarkgatewayrealty.com/p...=Any&min_sqft=Any&beds=Any&baths=Any&type=Any

this is located on the primary highway to one of our larger lakes in the state, and the boat traffic is extremely heavy during season...so is a prime location for a boat repair shop lol....

Well look at that, plenty of parking for your iBoats buds, storage of the boats needing upholstery, a yard, a 'showroom' w/ apartment, and a 2BR house. On a high traffic road heading to the lake, and zoned commercial already. Nice find! Sounds like a good place to give it a go. Even after July1, there's a lot of season left for people to see your location! Esp @ the 4th & labor day! Outstanding!

If I don't get professional help for the MBS/MOBS soon, &/or close my credit cards & ebay accounts, I may need 3 hots & a cot in that efficiency apartment. Will work for rent.

Re: Pontoon Seat Rebuild and Reupholstery Job

yeah, I cant complain about space anymore come July...between the 2400 sq. foot shop and a nice 2 car garage I wont have any excuses to have stuff cluttering my house anymore, which will make the wife happy lol....The shop can get regular sized boats into it, but pontoons will have to be worked on in the yard behind the shop theres about 1/2 acre of open storage.

I see an opportunity to host a sewing seminar. Circles are for quilts, boat upholstery IS man's work:facepalm: Have machine will travel.:)

Trade lessons for moving help on an hour per hour basis. Vinyl, foam, plywood backers, thread & adult frosty beverages can all be bring your own. Better get a new full cylinder for the grill though.
