Re: deck and stringer replacement
Re: deck and stringer replacement
Depends on what you want. The Tahini isn't a 65lb thrust trolling motor only kinda boat. It's not a quick grab & go kinda boat either when the mood to go boating strikes you. Nor quick & easy in terms of the amount of time, effort & money necessary to get it water ready.
More important then anything else you've posted here or the other few posts you've made, IMHO, is this:
W/ regards to the Tahini.
A close 2nd in terms of important things to note was this:
....I'm not sure how still in love with it I am.
The 1st is a knock down punch, but the fatal blow was the 2nd.
You had better LOVE the Tahini, & NO other boat will do. Specifically this particular hull & whatever it needs is THE ONE & ONLY....
Since you've considered the Tahini, and choose a Snark 12ft'r as an alternative, I would recommend you DON'T buy the Tahini & DO buy the Snark. If it'll get you into a boat, inexpensively, & you're quickly able to rehab it for use, there is little reason not to.
Who knows, you may not even like boat ownership. Having a good friend w/ a boat is GREAT too

I was that guy & my Admiral certainly wishes I was still the guy who has friends w/ boats.
If you discover you LOVE boat ownership & once you do some minimal rehab on the Snark, think you'd like to attempt a larger scale rehab, revisit the Tahini. It is extremely likely to still be available months from now if he doesn't have a title. Unless he cuts it up & scraps it.
Or start looking over the winter for a project that is the kind of boat you'd like to have, if the Snark just doesn't check all the boxes of what you want & need in a boat. It might & your done w/ your resto career.
If you're getting bad vibes from the seller, walk away. It isn't worth it. In fact, that boat & trailer as you describe them, sounds like it should be a FREE boat & trailer. But there are no more expensive boats to resto then the 'free' ones :watermelon:.... If I get a weird vibe from the 'seller', I wouldn't even take a free boat & trailer from them, in almost all situations.
Good luck, however you proceed
