Re: Snow....

Let's fire up all those SUV's that are starting to flood the used car lots and start pumping a few more tons of carbon into the air.

Either that or encourage Al Gore, if he is not too red faced yet, to keep yakking. That ought to be enough to get things warming up again.

You're going to keep posting this political crap, and I'm going to keep correcting you on it.

1) It's "global climate change." The overall trend is warming, but it causes lots of changes other than simple warming. What's happening could be a result of the increase in greenhouse gasses. Then again, weather is still weather. It changes.

Back when people doubted that DDT was killing birds, you could still spot an eagle now and then.

Back when people doubted the CFCs caused depletion of ozone, you could go out in the sun and not get cancer.

In both of those cases the scientists were right, even with all the "whining" from people who didn't want to change, and who cynically misinterpreted evidence to try to back up their stance.

There are very few climatologists who deny that humans are having a large effect on the global climate. All the ones who do who I've read are crackpots.

2) Seems to me that most of the "whining" comes from the doubters.

I almost forgot to apoligize for high-jacking this thread, but it is related. Also, Mr. Haut and Cheburashka, if you can recommend any of your friends or associates for future carbon off-setting you will recieve a discount for each new customer that you refer. Together, we can all save mother earth. Thanks for everyones commitment!

Eh, just wait for an El Nino... last year and this we've "lucked out" with La Nina's that have made the surface water of the ocean that is normally warm, switch places with much cooler water that has in turn cooled the air. It's not the same as climate change though. On the whole, things are warming up.

Of course, where you are, a bit of warming wouldn't hurt. ;)

Re: Snow....

A little historical perspective...

1,000 years ago the Norse successfully farmed on the SW Greenland coast (hence its name), and their boat docks (or remains of them) are still quite a distance from the current seashore. Thus, sea levels during the Medieval Warm Period were much higher than today. I don't believe Greenland's climate is yet conducive to raising crops yet.

Around 1200 AD, the planet entered the Little Ice Age, from which it began emerging about 150 years ago.

Yep, the planet's returning to normal.:) Think of all the additional boating areas once the planet gets back to normal!

Re: Snow....

Nobody's denying that natural temperature trends happen. Of course there are climate changes regardless of what humans do. The point being made by those who are concerned is that we are hastening the changes through our actions, and that we can do things to slow down these changes.

My car's undercarriage will eventually rust through whether I like it or not. Does that mean I should just go down to the beach and drive around in the surf, since there's nothing I can do about it?

The process of climate change can be slowed down, but it's either going to take some major lifestyle changes or some major technological advances.

If Greenland becomes green again, most of us will be living in Brownland.
