Re: So what have YOU done?

Ill tell ya, I have to second with that, being a "larger than life" individual wasnt easy, but once this internet thing let people meet ME rather than my imposing size, I found that getting girlfriends was easy ... wayyyy TOO easy, but I was like a kid cut loose in a candy store

the stories I could tell ...

but anyway, I found a local girl, and she is soooo cool, but now shes sick, and I have to be daddy to her AND her kid, and lemme tell ya, Daddying is one thankless, hard as chit biotch of a job, ive taken my sore back out into blizzards with 30 below wind chills just to make sure I could get her to dialysis on time, shoveling and reshoveling out the driveway for a five am departure, Ive scrubbed floorboards and taken showers apart to make them sparkle so her kids grandmom would be impressed, ive dried her tears, ive wrestled a dozen ballons into a hospital with a gale blowing, ive taught her kid how to drive, (I used to teach tractor trailer students how to get thru the final test, The Big One, teaching her to drive the Subaru was easy ... ah, but here is the thing, I would do it after a day at school, head pounding, back banging away, legs swollen to the point of that deep throbbing and stinging thing they do, all the while being positive and cheering her on, good girl! when she would do well, a eh, gotta work on that kiddo when she wasnt so hot, and all the while, this is illegal, and Im sure it would have been trouble for ME too ...

so yeah, ive traded being the Quarter Ton of Fun Internet Gigolo life - which was WAY fun, flying around the country, meeting all these wonderful women, ah if they ONLY Had this thing when I was a kid!!! - for the unglamorous, unheralded, and quite mundane life of a Daddy

and when I sleep, its a contented sleep, my kids are safe, and life is good.

Whenever I talk to my dad, I tell him I love him

I guess somethings even a once upon a time Super Genius like me has to learn eventually

sorta like a rock learning to be worn away by the water, check out the grand canyon!

guys, if yer old man is still kickin around, give em call, tell him ya love him

Youll both feel better

:)

Re: So what have YOU done?

Took care of landscaping, snow removal, and other basic maintenance of apartment building we were managing until age 18.

At 18, finished highschool and joined US Army for four years for the college money, That four years turned into eleven years, a divorce, a daughter that turns twelve this Halloween and a bankruptcy. During the eleven years in the Army I was:

M2 Bradley driver, Humvee driver, 2 1/2 driver, Dismounted Infantryman, M2 Bradley gunner, Instructor for M2 Bradley school, Master Driver, Company Training NCO (receptionist), Company urinalasys NCO, Battalion Reenlistment NCO, M2 Bradley Commander, Team leader, Squad Leader, the list goes on. Was going to retire and decided against it. I have been to Germany, Spain, France, Egypt, Korea, and in the States I was stationed in Georgia and Colorado. I am from California and have lived in Wisconsin, Washington State, Colorado, Georgia, and currently Idaho.

After the Army I worked for a year at Coldwater Creek packing dresses in boxes and sending them off to rich bored women. Pay sucked, but there were women as far as the eye could see and it was a grab-arse fest all day every day.

Got current job as exterminator, but besides pest control I am also the company mechanic, do real estate inspections, Bat removal, I plow snow in the winter, we also build and remodel houses, and do high end landscaping with retaining walls and big ponds with watefalls and all that. We are also rebuilding a huge houseboat with twin Chrysler 360 V8s. Pay is quite good, full benies, and I have no one looking over my shoulder.

I am currently on application awaiting a position on the local Police Force. That has been the job I have actually wanted for quite awhile. I applied in the spring of this year, and while I did very well according to the Chief, they hired an officer from another city. Makes sense. I was assured that if I left myself in the application pool that the odd were in my favor, so we will see on that.

Re: So what have YOU done?

I had the usual sort of kid jobs--boxboy etc..

In college, in the summers I would work for a small builder building new houses--fun job, as I was able to learn everything, from foundation and concrete work to framing to everything except inside finish work (they had a special guy that did nothing but the inside finish work). During the school year, I worked graveyard shift unloading and loading trucks for CF.

Out of college, I did quality and environmental control on the above-ground insulation on the Trans Alaska Pipeline.

From there, I got a job as a statistical qc in a plywood mill in Port Angeles, Wa.

Did various management jobs for them, and an outfit in Portland Oregon, and now managing mills in Northern Michigan and Northern Ontario, Canada.

Re: So what have YOU done?

plywoody, you should be one happy man - plywood prices are soaring. Can't believe how much they went up in just a couple of months! Glad I pre-purchased most of the plywood and particle board for my new house, but what I was short, you sure stuck it too me! ;)

Ahhh, capitalism at it's finest!

It took a while but this is a job I really like. Hope to work here till I retire.

Along the way I managed to get married and have two great kids.

Re: So what have YOU done?

Wow, some of you have some colorful careers under your belts and my hat's off to those of you who have made sacrifices and changes for the better of others.
Myself, I've been in masonry construction since age 14. Now at 42 and having been diabetic for 28+ years, Ive got neuropathy in my feet and hands to the point that I take one or two hydrocodone each day to make it through 8+ hours of heavy lifting.
Cut off my thumb in a skilsaw 3 months ago so I'm learning to adapt so that I can continue laying brick and stone.
Cheers to all. :)

Re: So what have YOU done?

Started at Hardee's, then went to Mc'Donalds. After Mc'Donalds, it was on to Burger King, then to Taco Bell. I decided a career change was in order, so I went to Wendy's, then back to Hardee's, then on to McDonalds, followed by Burger King and Taco Bell after Hardee's again and then McDonalds after Wendy's and then Burger King. :p

Hopefully, I can become "Head Fry Cook" at my current job, if not, I guess I will start looking elewhere. :D

Hey Carpy,

Isn't it about time that you consider getting out of the fast food places and tryed getting a job at Sizzler, or T.G.I.Fridays, or Mountain Creek, or Applebaums?

At least at these places, you'll get to share the tips your not getting now, with your fellow employees who are going to make you wait on more tables then them, because you would be the newby !

Just remember, you'll only be a newby until they hire someone new.

Kenny

Hey Carpy, you inhale all those fumes and that nasty grease and you're worried about second hand smoke? You better get yourself a SBN Hepa suit! :D ;)
