Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

I told you to swap out that old box with a newer one with the TnT switch already in it :p

I'm being cheap! Well..... I will have the new cables..... the best time to shop for a new control box is "off season" and that's the plan.... among other things such as the parts to edge the outboard up a few more hp :p

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

PROGRESS :D :D :D

Got my new cables and they are a perfect fit!

Changed the LU oil and tomorrow I will do the impellar.

Today was wiring day ..........I was determined to get things done......

Well no good deed goes unpunished LOL......I had a few dumb attacks......

First I had gotten a roll of marine wire.... crimp connectors, buss bars, switches...... I was ready ........

I installed my wires and since all of my wires are red I tagged every wire with colored tape and a sharpie....... life was good.

I ran into my first glitch when I was hooking it all up...... okay so I wired the switches twice because I "thought" I had confused wires..... nope it was just my brain baking in the sun!

Hooked up the battery and tried my handy work out..... horn dead and bow light dead  Well the horn is officially dead and I will hold a service for it sometime in the future....... Now the fun..... why is my front bow light dead? I have had that laying on my bench for years..... I guess I should have checked the bulb BEFORE I mounted it..... take apart the bow light to check the bulb and.........no bulb at all .....must have removed it years ago!

Next on the "electrical" list is to get my tilt and trim straight..... what a nightmare. I installed new relays into the box.....nothing......cleaned and sanded every contact.....nothing .........GRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr frustrating..... oh I will get it working or it will be buried along with the horn......

Did I mention that my battery bit the dust too....... it takes a charge but has no longevity to hold it :( That's going to be traded in tomorrow too.

I am on the finish the project warpath and can see the goal in sight. I have mad a few changes and will post pictures soon.

This is the best part, sounds like something I would do. Otherwise, congrats on the successful day! Weather should be good tomorrow.

2 steps forward one step back......

X

Bang head on the X:redface:

New horn installed and works, new light bulb installed and works, even a new battery....... life was good.

Onto changing the impellar in the lower unit. Well I guess I will finish the attack on that tomorrow since one of the previous owner's of this outboard did a real cob job on the main water tube......

No good deed goes unpunished.......

I had one heck of a day and feel stupid and frustrated

Dam old age has gotten me today.

I woke up this morning and headed for DMV to register the boat and trailer........

Went to the mall to pick up the vinyl numbers for my registration and came out to find my 4runner had a smashed window...... headed to portland glass and arranged to have it repaired in the morning...... not on my list but it is now.

Headed home and found my trim relay box had arrived and noticed that it was June 30th  I REALLY thought today was 1 July so........now my boat and trailer will expire in June next year...... I paid for the entire month of June!

Started the motor and it appears it has some big internal problems :( I guess I will be ripping the powerhead down before the boat ever sees water........... I suspect a blockage in the water passages.

Why me

My wife has been VERY supportive :)

Our attitude is well......let's do it all the right way with the motor. ....... and in the future we should not have problems.

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Bob sorry to hear about murphy showing up to your project:rolleyes:

I just went thru the same ordeal with my trim/tilt bracket. What I figured out was that my relay harnesses/sockets needed to be replaced since they had gotten wet.

I found some online for $8 each including shipping, and they also include the 40amp relays. Just wanted to mention it in case that may help you.

Why me

I feel for you. Man sometimes it seems like it will never end. Maybe I'm the least bit superstitious, but I never let myself ask "what next". I do entertain the "why me" on occasion though. Trouble is, the answer to that is always "why not you?".

What, you got vandals over there in VT?

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

UPDATE.....

Boat and trailer are registered :D

New head gaskets, water pump, water deflectors, thermostats and gaskets for my Johnson..... not a fun day but a serious maintenance day. Interesting to get inside the motor.......

Sorry about no pictures but my cell phone dropped dead and I forgot my camera.

I did tow the boat well over 100 miles today and it tows great......

Got too late to start it this evening so tomorrow it will see some muff time for fine adjustments and I need to check my work...... at least I did not have any parts left over.

Re: Starcraft Supersport The Project Begins

Tick tick tick..... I am going NUTS!!

The motor has ton's of new parts......the boat is essentially ready (even though there is no windshield)...... start the motor yesterday and I see water..... lot's of water where it should not be...... I blew a water hose.

Motor stuff....
New tilt tube
New control Cables
New tilt/trim relay
New plugs
New water pump (not just the impellar)
New water deflectors
New thermostats
New paint
New decals

Not a simple part but a part that is NOT normally stocked so..... I have to wait until Thursday :(

Photo update ;)

This is to show the front casting deck that extends between the consoles where it is actually rod storage.

There is a photo to show the bow and my aluminum work....... I wanted to make sure Kevin saw the arrow formed by the bow piece and the step piece I added. :D
