At least for us SC guys, it would be tough to do worse than OEM http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/DSCF2225.jpg Although if you add an in-floor ski/rod locker that comes at the expense of a significant amount of floatation which should be made up elsewhere. I feel I probably have enough flotation to bob along as well as barato's friend's boat but I highly doubt I have enough to achieve this http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/063Small.jpg which is what we're after.
And that rule only applies to OEMs.
Re cutting foam - I used to buy soft foam (upholstery) from a guy that would do all kinds of custom shapes. He used a very large band saw. The blade was modified with a grinder to eliminate the teeth from sticking out, a clean edge cut, much like a utility knife blade. Might work for a small band saw or even a sawzall.
Glen the EPS or Expanded Polystyrene is the stuff that came in the 60's era boats originally and is the stuff you want to stay away from. The Extruded Polystyrene is the way to go-IMHO
And E-I remember reading that somewhere a while back also....
Dozer, if it's Extruded, you're good. Lowes has it's own brand that's green. Just used it for my basement walls. Same as the blue Dow and pink Corning.
Nothing like throwing out lots of MIS information...... Sorry E! And Glen-I just checked-the Plastispan is def an Expanded (white bead board) so you want to stay away from it.
Hey Glen, I found a great source for the blue foam! Check it out...

Just let me know and I can grab some for ya! It's right near my place, it's a gold mine of foam, just sitting out like that too! I had to snap a photo for ya. Prolly too expensive to ship but I know you are good with driving ridiculous distances for boating gear so I can hang onto it till ya get here![]()
Hey Glen, how bout noodles?

Glen try some commercial roofing contractors near large metro areas They use a ton of extruded in roofing applications and sometimes these folks have more than they can store.
I'm afraid to ask.
Why not use noodles again? 1 cubic foot holds 60lbs of weight up. It's roughly the same for the block (pink, blue foam). I saw you packed the naked lady full of noodles pretty well. Typing that sentence made me grin...
If I cut and fit it sheet foam like Jason did on edge it will add flotation and support, starting to sound like Victoria Secrets AD:facepalm:
So let me see if I have this straight...
This thread went from Starcraft Mad scientists testing stuff, to "the foam debate", now two Kanucks yakking about women's underwear?
What in the heck is going on around here? Who is the captain of this ship, we are off wayyyyyyy of course!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
Have a great Sunday guys![]()
