then spray bombing it. Yup, you heard that right. Used the Ace “high perf enamel”, about $4/can, took about 9 cans per side. Despite the fact that I was having to spray from about 4-6" away due to the wind (gusting to maybe 25 yesterday but I was working on the lee side at that point), it glossed up nicely and I only had a few runs that aren’t visible once it was done (gotta love gloss white!).

I’m really happy with the results....a friend dropped by as I was pulling the tape and commented it looked like a brand new hull....she was shocked to hear that it was almost 50 years old. Even better, I sent high-res pix to my pro auto painter friend and HE had good things to say about it....he’s one picky soambish so I must have gotten something right if he approves.

and yes, i actually did paint both sides altho i now realize all my pix are of the port side....i was hustling to beat dusk on the starboard side so no "done" pix of that yet.

all told, it took me maybe 4-5 hours per side counting scraping the stickers and glue. good to remember that paint jobs don't have to involve months of prep, climate controlled conditions, or a compressor and spray rig. nor are spray-bomb jobs necessarily not cost effective.

Man you were a whirling dervish this weekend. Have you got a crane on standby to lift the console? She looks heavy. El Holiner is blanco all over. :thumb:

Looks great from WV

Just a thought, but w/ the new fore lights, do you need any teeth:

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

teeth are definitely part of the plan.....gonna go talk to my local toys-for-tots vinyl wrap outfit and see if they have/can do any shark mouth patterns among the manga girls, superheroes and Hello Kitty's. the dorm fridge will get a tail fin and the Admiral is getting tapped to help me with the side grey patterning. i think not only will it go over big with the locals in Mexico, but maybe if i'm lucky scare off the sea lions that take hooked fish......

GA, going to just use the Neighbor plan for hoisting the console into boat.

Real nice job B2, you either have a bionic or very sore finger from all them spray bombs. The bow lights are a real vice touch.

a real vice touch. i see you picked up the evil leer in its eyes too.....:boink:

yeah, i learned what "button finger" was like. and we won't even talk about what beefing up the arms shaking cans does.....

Woah......that is a pile of work accomplished right there. Loving the eyes you adorned her with. You must of been jammin to a little Lou Reed and walking on the wild side!!

wow B2, you kicked-it into high gear man!

Is that really spraybombed or are you just messin' with us? It looks absolutely amazing!

I also like the grain in those side panels...looks like high-end furniture...really sharp!

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

Willy, the lights came with her, so it was either re-use them or weld/rivet in some patching on a very visible spot. plus the installer beat the faux-lapstrake flat so i'd have to do some tricky body work. plus i plan on being out at night, so why not have headlights instead of relying 100% on a handheld spotlight?

it was the "shark" look that sold me on her in the first place, so now i just need to try and properly capture the "black pits of hell" look that the eyes of GWs/makos/porbeagles have. oh, and i went out and measured last night and for correct proportioning, i'm going to need a lot bigger "mouth" decal than 30"....40" would be more like it. $$$$$

thanks BF! esp coming from a craftsman such as yourself.... yup, i really did spraybomb it. guess i should have shot a pic of the pile of empty cans....for this crowd. ;) shake can mercilessly, push down button, walk along side of boat, repeat ad nauseum. :frusty:

Bruce , nice progress bro. Spray bomb, really. A roll finish is easier. Is your index finger twice the size of you're other fingers? Just stopping in to try and catch up. You're thread is starting to look like a Jas thread. I can't keep up.

This is going to be a sweet boat when you're done. Keep it up. I'm a little jealous though. Mine is covered under a lot of snow, and as a bonus it's going down below zero again tonight.

thanks Don! i'm just going like mad of late because this is the best time of year for progress....things sort of slow to a crawl when the temps get into mid 90s, and that will happen early this year, methinks......we're forecast to see almost 80 this weekend. meanwhile, my wife got snow in ABQ last week.

80F seems like a distant dream. Seen the weather from northern Georgia to about DC this afternoon?

Seems like the shark theme has teeth :D

JB, the pricing of the teeth stickers has some serious teeth. we'll see what sort of offer the fleebay guy will take.

Jim, if you had the scrawny White Chicken Legs o' Death, you might not mind 80 so much. altho ironically, where we are looking to move in NW, we'll rarely see 80 even in midsummer.

no work last day or 2, EOKSTU is coming down Friday so i've been frenziedly purging and cleaning house. you'd hardly know the kitchen now, looks nothing like that last pic!
