Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

BWR so thats frost in Sunny Florida? that musta been a rough year for the orange growers! cool pics...I like the sun rays with the sunflowers
and the Gazenias are great they come back year after year here in Vegas...Ive got a bunch...

That frost was way early last year. And it not only got cold early, but stayed cold for awhile. Then repeated several times. Had more frost last fall/winter than in the 10 years prior.

Gazanias - they did really well and completely shrugged off the frost and freezes. They finally croaked when I hit 'em with too much of the wrong type of fertilizer. I'll be more careful next time. I found a place online that ships flats of 512 for less than 50 bucks, so will be ordering those after the New Year so that I can fill in my perimeter beds.

Will also be transplanting more American Beautyberry shrubs. They grow wild on my place and I mark them whenever I see them. The birds are now starting to harvest some of the berries, while rabbits are "pruning" the smaller limbs.

You'll notice I said "if I carry". Fact is, I don't carry nor plan to. I don't feel a need to.

"If we were in a 'situation' together..I could drop 3 perps with my 45 before ya even got that cannon out..." If you're close enough to hit 3 perps with a 45, then all 4 of you must be in the same closet. Unless you're referring to a 45 Colt.

C'mon guys... do we really want to turn this into some kind of macho "mine's bigger than yours" thread?

lol...no..did ya see where I said I carried a .32 cal Walther?? Not the biggest or manliest cartridge out there..In fact fairly nortorious for it's lack of stopping power.

BUT....

My 45 is a WW2 issue Remington Rand that has been my daily shooter since I was 14...I can put 7 holes in a 3 inch circle out to 35 yards..Now if I had the 45 I want but can't afford......

To squash this..

I just wanted to point out that Bill Ford Sr. has owned the Detroit Lions for 45 years. In that 45 years the Lions have ONE playoff victory.
SO will the Lions still suck after Bill Ford Sr......Uh.....no longer owns the Lions?
Will Bill Ford Jr. show mercy to the long suffering fans of Detroit and sell the Lions to some worthy owners?
Will the football fans of Detroit still be stupid enough to buy tickets when the Lions continue to suck?

OK enough of that...........on to more important matters.

LMAO!! Now THAT is a very good point!!

As for the macho chest-thumping stuff, I think it's for the birds.

And speaking of birds... HIJACK!!

Does anyone else have bird feeders/waterbaths or other bird attractors? My neighbor gave me an old feeder last year and I set it up promptly. Got some pretty good action, but things really exploded once I stuck in a "water feature" for bathing. Things went well through the fall and winter, then just got crazy during the spring.

And I noticed that all through spring and summer that the bug count around my house went WAY down! Good news, that.

I've seen the usual varieties here and some not too typicals. The neatest has been a Cooper's Hawk that sometimes frequents the watering hole. For some reason, there are no other birds around then! :D

Next year I'll put in a hummingbird feeder and maybe some thistle too.

Who else feeds da birdies?

That's so cool! I look forward to enticing some to my place. And I'm working on getting a better camera in a trade deal... maybe soon! Then I can take pix of da birdies while they're at the watering hole. My current digicam has only 4x electronic zoom... no optical.

Yesterday I had SIX bluebirds in the water all bathing at the same time. Neat stuff! And once in awhile we get a swallow-tailed kite flying overhead search for lizards, etc.

We feed da birdies. Biggest thing around here is keeping the bear out of the feeders. Hang them high enough in the eaves so they can't reach. Even get muddy paw prints on the glass side door as they try to grab them. Hope someday they don't break the glass. Would be like a Chinese fire drill around here if they did. Had a Bobcat walk down the driveway the other day too. That was cool.

Bear paw prints on the glass door... Hmmm, good thing I don't live there I 'd be replacing the door every year on opening day :D:D:D

Yeah Ive got 4 hummer feeders....one ruby throated hummer stays 9 months of the year...hear em every day making that tweet they make...kinda like a squeeky bearing sound....lol

had some seed feeders...but then it attracted pigeons..as did a waterfall and pond we had...so that stuff got nixed.....nuthin worse than pigeon dung on the patio...smells worse when ya rinse it off...

I need to get some pics of my hummer dude...Im going to get technical and use some studio lights to stop action em tho....might give em a scare! BLAM! flash....

Animals / Brids now eh......Wouldn't this sheep of made a nice trophy...caught this one on digital back in 2003 when we were looking at properties to buy near Cripple Creek Colorado....BAAAAAAHHHH!!!

Thats a great shot Vegas..To add a little to the animal theme

Here's a few cougar shots...There is also a very rare shot of a whole PACK of cougars, which as many people know is rare, since they are basically a solitary animal..
