Sorry I'm slow replying... m'lady is here tonight! :D

No, I wasn't hurt and yes, the suspected cause was an overcharged (hot) round. Fiocchi, the ammo maker, is sending me a check to cover replacement cost of the gun.

I'll post more info tomorrow. ;)

wow..good thing ya werent hurt..

Gotta say..I never thought the quality of those imports were that great..
Ny first response was the firearm..

But having shot a lot of 22 mags through my Marlin bolt action as a kid, ya do hafta respect the round...Very close ballisticly to a .17 cal..
LOTS more energy than a standard 22..

$$$ too..lol

Yeah, the standard pressure for a .22WMR is 24,000 PSI. Double the charge and that number gets really high really quick.

And that's all from me for tonight! :D

BWY, I am VERY glad to see that you are well enough to be writing to us on the forum.

FIE....I shudder at the very mention of the name.
As I would Lorcin, Hi Point, Jimenez....

Yeah, I'm fine. When the gun actually recoiled, a giant fireball appeared at the end of the muzzle and the rear sight disappeared. Those were pretty good hints that something was up.

As for FIE... my last FIE sixgun was all stainless. Might look into finding one of those with the check I'm getting.

And regarding kabooms... it happens to all brands. I've seen 'em on Glocks, S&W's, Rugers, etc. Too much is just too much sometimes! :D

I really hope you don't.

Agreed, however, certain brands regularly and routinely put samples off the line through stress testing. (With any gun from FIE, you don't even know what country in which it was manufactured, let alone who's production facility.)

As a matter of fact, I thought FIE filed bankruptcy back in the early 90s. Are they still in business?

Nope, FIE hasn't been in business for awhile.

HIJACK!

Had to turn the A/C back on in the house tonight! Remember I had the heat on for the first time this season last week? Got a big ol' front movin' through tonight and there is a severe t-storm warning and a tornado watch in place here now. My weather radio gave me the alert a few minutes ago.

Gotta love those weather radios!

Yep, the rough part of the storm blew through here awhile ago, which is why I wasn't on the computer! Sat on my butt and watched tv while the front blew through. Got some nice steady rain going now. We certainly need it.

I've had a couple Ruger Single Sixes over the years. First one way back in the 60s when I was but a kid. Very nice little guns and if I could find one cheap enough, I'd go there. Maybe I can sell my 8mm original Japanese (Nambu) ammo to add a couple bux and get a Ruger. We'll see. Does feel weird to not have something to slip in my pocket real quick when I go outdoors. My .357 snubby is a little much for the rattlers around here! :D

Did you hear about this 15 foot Eastern Diamondback rattler found at a MALL in St. Augustine? An A-10 is what's needed for THAT!!

Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

Hey I need to get some opinions while were on the gun topic, I have a Thompson Center Triumph Muzzle loader. Right now the gun has Williams Fiber optics open sights.
I have hunted with open or peep sights most of my life and never had to take a 2nd shot always killed on the 1st. I only started with a scope on my hunting rifle 2 years ago I do find it easier by far, mainly to verify and count the points on the rack .
Never hunted with a Muzzle loader I will be this year to extend hunting season. All my buddies are saying I should scope the gun, its easier your older, eyesight bla bla bla. They all use scopes the only reason I do now is cause my 742 carbine came with one.
I'm open for more opinions To scope or not to scope.
and if so, wifey is limiting me to $200.00 so that's like a Nikon Pro Staff. I think Leupold would be out
BTW the longest shot this year is probably 100 yards because of the heavy brush I'm dealing with

Opinions anyone, I can't seem to decide

Make sure your state allows a scope and what power ranges are legal. In WI, we can only use a 1x scope. Some may say why bother. Well let's just say it's easier to put a crosshair on the spot you want to hit than it is to line up the iron sights. I have a T/C White Mountain carbine. No inlines for me, just the old side hammers and iron sights. "May" scope it someday.... Actually, our blackpowder season is just about half over.

HIJACK
Do you think Tiger Woods was trying to leave his house at 2:30AM and his wife was beating him about the head with a 9-Iron and busting out his window while trying to flee in his Escalade???
When he crashed all was forgiven?

Blackpowder starts on the 14th here
I just checked the DEC it says:
"You may use fiber-optic sights and scopes on a muzzleloading
firearm at any time."
Which is good seeing the the Triumph came with Williams fiber on her.
I looked at Leupold?s UltimateSlam 2x7 yesterday its $259 locally. Its than I wanted to spend but a real beauty even accounts for trajectory with hold points from 50-300 yards.
I think what I am going to do is go to the range today and see how I do seeing the target at 100, that"s my primary concern my eyesight isn't what it used to be.

WOW BWR that"s one big diamondback, over here the biggest I've ever seen is 5' I think I'd have a heart attack if I saw something that size crawling out of my rock quarry

I'm looking at the UltimateSlam as we speak in a Cabela's catalog. They're saying it's a 3x9. Apparently, they must make a 2x7 too if you saw one. In your case, the SABR wouldn't be needed in my opinion. Haven't looked up your gun so I don't know a whole lot about it, but, at the MOST you'll be shooting 200 yds(providing it's a good in-line gun). More than likely 100yds as you stated. So basically, the SABR wouldn't be of any value for your needs. It sounds good, but in the field it wouldn't be needed. Cabelas has it at $269, so $259 probably isn't too bad of a price. Ok, I just saw in Cabelas Christmas catalog they do have the 2x7, it's NEW. Seems like there's alot of features, icons, range estimates(which just tell you if it's closer or farther than 200 yds) that your paying for that wouldn't be needed IMO. I would rather spend the same money on a scope without all the bells and whistles and you would have a higher quality piece. As long as you have the proper mounts for your gun, you should be able to put any scope on that you want. Muzzleloader or not. Some say the Nikon Pro Staffs are good. The Nikon Buckmaster looks to be a step up from the Pro Staff. I'm looking at Leupolds VX - II, 3x9(for my 30-06). $40 more than the one you're looking at. Not too bad..

I'm not saying the UltimateSlam is a bad scope, just more features than you need. I think the 2x7 is nice for close range shooting(150yds or less). Gives a wider FOV. Also, just threw out there a couple of other options......

I'd be curious to hear what you decide.....:)

Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

Hey WIMUSKY Never made it to the range today, call came in wound up going out on a job and started a emergency boiler install. You are right about the whistles and bells, I've never needed or used them in my life before. Here is what I'm thinking about doing There was a real nice Leupold for $179 I liked the brightness and the clarity better than the pro-staff. I"m gonna pick it up along with quick release mounts. Tomorrow I have to finish that boiler I started today, I'm gonna take it to the range Saturday sight in the scope & make sure my old iron sights are on the money. If in my tree stand I'll leave it with the scope on but if I'm walking and stalking its back to open for me.

Don't know why I'm obsessing so much over this, my O.C.D. must be getting the best of me

Funny thing reflecting on my train of thought, I can't believe I'm the same guy who for the past 30 years went hunting with a good old army surplus 30 cal M1 carbine made by General Motors/ Saginaw division bone stock right down to the peep sights up until 3 years ago I didn't even own a gun with a scope.
