Wonder if the wife would notice the rum in the coca cola? lol it's just soda honey! :p

When the partner gets resentful....they will use whatever is handy as excuses to attack...unfortunate but true.....

I wonder....... before your business had issues...was the drinking much of an issue with her?....even though you were probably drinking the same as you do now.........
just a thought.........:p

My little miss Caity dancing on the deck of the Sea Gem. I took her out on the water for her birthday... She had been telling me for months she wanted a birthday party on the boat. Of course daddy had to make it happen for her:)

HIJACK!!

Another morning in the woods...

Went scouting yesterday morning with Nancy.

DEFINITELY figured out my first preference location for my treestand!

It's 0.31 miles off the "main" road according to my GPS.

Aerial view:

The spot:

Critter tracks! We saw deer, fawn, hog and bobcat tracks along the fire road. The bobcat track actually intercepted the deer & fawn and was followed by tracks revealing some serious activity. Dunno if the 'cat was successful, as the tracks moved off into the scrub and off the trail.

There is a secondary trail that splits off to the right of the main trail when walking toward the treeline. It heads off at about a 30 degree angle to another entrance into the tree line. Spooky but neat back in there. We went back in the woods to that big log on the secondary trail and sat down to do a little turkey calling. I yelped a few times... waited, then yelped again. SOMEthing started heading toward us closeby through the trees. Never saw it, but we both heard it clearly... twice. Nancy said "You have your gun, right?" "Yes, dear." LOL

So, I yelped a few more times. Tada! Got a gobble maybe 200 - 250 yards away. However, the mosquitoes were just tearin' us up, so we decided not to stick around to see if I could coax that gobbler in for a closer look. ("Yes, dear!")

The bottom line... my treestand will be set up where I can overlook BOTH trails, the field AND that pond! Awwwwww yeahhhhhh!!

Hey BWR, those look like really good hunting spots. I'm a little jealous with the bob cats and all. By me I haven't been able to shoot a cat in over 20 years, not many around anymore:(

When does the season start by you????

Can't kill bobcats in that particular WMA, but I believe that there are seasons in other areas. I'll take any coyotes I see though.

The archery season starts in just a couple weeks for deer, hog, coyote and others. Muzzle loader season is in October.

General gun season isn't until the first week of November, which is when I'll be hunting.

HIJACK!

Nancy saw some deer!

Yayy!

We got up at oh-dark-early and set off to the local WMA in hopes of spotting some wild game in natural habitat.

Arrived at 0545 and it was still plenty dark, with heavy overcast skies, 75 degree temp, high humidity and no wind. We drove to "the spot" that I plan to hunt in a couple months and parked the Jeep. Shut the engine off and rolled down the windows to acclimate ourselves to the outdoors. Immediately 4 bazillion mosquitoes entered the truck!! Aieeeeee!! Rolled up the windows and began swattting. Now, I'm not sayin' that these skeeters were bad or anything, but while I was killin' the ones inside, I saw a pair of them outside tryin' to pick the door locks to get in!!

Anyway, after things calmed down inside, we fired up the engine and drove around in the dark for 20 or 30 minutes hoping to see something with the headlights. No joy. Ended up going back to "the spot" to wait for sunup. That gang of skeeters was still waiting... standin' on the street corner in leather jackets and talkin' trash. We kept the windows up.

The sun arrived and we watched for 20 minutes afterwards, but still nothing. So, we headed toward the gate. On the main road out, I mentioned to Nancy that deer are sometimes spotted crossing that very road. Sure enough, less than a minute later a doe and a young of the year fawn bopped right across the road not 50 feet in front of us. Cool! I slowed down until I spotted them about 30 yards off the road, then stopped. Bravely, I rolled the window down as Nancy handed me the camera! Thankfully, no mosquitoes pestered me as I tried to get decent photos of the deer. The pair were looking at us and the fawn continued to move slowly away. I manuevered the Jeep while trying to keep them in sight. Had to move several times, but the deer were not alarmed at all... just curious. They both fed a little and slowly faded out of sight.

The pix were taken while the deer were about 50+ yards away in the scrub. I had it set to 10x optical zoom for orientation, then hit the digital zoom for the closeups. Tough to do while maneuvering the vehicle, watching for other cars (none) and trying to keep the deer in sight. But, I did have some success!

As we were driving out, I told Nancy how glad I was that she was finally able to see some deer in the wild... to which she replied "I was hoping to see a BEAR!" LMAO!

Re: The Hijack Zone - Zombies Welcome

Next year I'll make it here...

Here is where I was hoping to make it for her maiden voyage and winterizing.

http://www.kootenayangler.com/

World's largest trout about 6-7 hours away.

Gerrard Rainbows: World's Largest Trout
Kootenay Lake, British Columbia, land of giants. Giant trout, that is ? colossal rainbows, known as Gerrards, that weigh in at 5 times the normal size of Kamloops trout. The secret of their super-size: ideal spawning conditions on a short, gravelly stretch of the Lardeau River, a tributary of Kootenay Lake, and a rich, gourmet diet of Kootenay Lake kokanee salmon.

The Gerrard trout, named for a small community on Trout Lake, at the head of the Lardeau River, is a genetically gargantuan strain of rainbow trout that averages 6.8 ? 9.03 kilograms in weight, compared to the 1.3 ? 1.8 kilogram average for the standard Kamloops variety of rainbow trout found throughout interior British Columbia?s lakes and rivers. (Rainbows are a landlocked version of sea-going steelhead trout, and share the same species classification.) The Gerrard strain spawns and rears in spring on a single 300 metre stretch of the Lardeau River, producing fish that have been known to reach up to 20 kilograms in weight. (The largest Gerrard ever landed is said to be a 23.6 kilogram fish caught in British Columbia?s Jewel Lake in the 1930?s.) Gerrards also live longer than other rainbows ? up to 8 years, compared to an average lifespan of 5 ? 6 years for standard Kamloops trout.

Sprintst-

You will love Kootenay lake, the fastest way for you to get there would be the back road, Revestoke, Gallina bay ferry, Trout lake and put in at Cooper creek.
"The road is dirt", Trout lake-Houser the worst part being from the trout lake town site to the mouth of the Lardeau river, from there down it is an old RXR grade and not so bad if you dont mind dirt.
Otherwise its down to New Denver and up and over the pass into Kaslo.
In May it is wild to see the gerards spawning in the lardeau, a sea of orange.

And bring you deep water gear as that lake is deep.

(still looking forward to hauling the boat over to the Arrow lakes one of these days)

Well someone needs to do a current post in here. I bought myself this for Christmas last year. I got the 308 model so I could also hunt with it.

Awesome rifle. The weird thing here is that I can hunt with the AK look alike but the AR is restricted.

I'd love to have one of those.

Definately man. That trip would be a blast.

It will give me chance to use the yet unboxed Hummingbird 788CI...not sure what that thing can even do yet. Hopefully it can point out some fish or help me find my way back to the dock :)

Let me know when your headen down, maybe we will bivvy, if we have the time.
