With any luck that bugger stays on there now. When I was deciding I did some reading and the regular bellows sounded like a real pain.

Hey Folks,
That exhaust bellows is a real PITA. If it pulls off the bell housing it's not to bad if you have a bellows tool. You do have to pull the drive off. I have heard a lot of folks running without it altogether too.
The paint looks great.
Take care and keep the wife happy. If possible.

Thanks Bob,

They are a real PITA, that's why this time I went to using the tube. I installed the tube in 5 min

So today I compounded the hull and waxed her

I still have to do the cap, the thing is with all the hardware etc I cant use my 12" buffer to do it

Anyone know of an easy way out? :redface:

Unbolt all the stuff that's in the way? It's always the part you usually see that's the hardest to keep pretty. I can't even imagine how long it would take me to detail a boat that big, much less how long it'll take for my 17 ft long Glastron....

Hey Red,
I thought about that for a real fast second. The thought of taking all the railings and cleats off makes me want to cringe and yes those are the areas that need it the most.

I am temped to see if I can get some sort of real small like a 3 or 4" buffer for it.

Otherwise I am going to leave it alone right now. There is a lot of gelcoat repairs I have to do on the cap and I know what will happen if I start taking the hardware off.............. REPAIR TIME......THEN the boat wouldn't see water again till next year

Heck,
I thought i would be able to get mine in the water in just 6-8 mos. and in less then a month it will be one year. My time estimates are getting better an a lot longer. That big thing would take me way longer.

Hi Bob,

Yes she is a beast
Don't feel bad, the hull,stringers, deck & transom were solid when I got her. BUT although I have her on the water, the seat platforms and bulkhead for the cuddy are rotted because they did a real poor formica job on bare plywood. In addition she might look pretty good in the pics but there are tons of scratches and gouges in the gelcoat

Heh my USComposits order got held up in the same derailment! It was already the 2nd batch of resin sent due to the first getting all the way to the local sorting hub here in CT and leaking.. so they tossed it and wrote up a claim.

The boat is looking great with all the finishing touches. That teak work looks great as does the polish.

An d yes I do plan on cleaning and oiling all the teak on the boat. Sometimes my ADD gets the better of me, I will be in the middle of one thing, think about something else, stop what I am doing and change directions


OK, so what did I do on the boat today????? Well my wife now thinks I am nuts lol

I asked her to come outside to give me a hand with the boat. When she came out I had the bow line tied on the transom ski hooks and the other end of the rope tied to an old oak tree. I told her (in a Jeff Foxworthy accent ) NOW Honey... I need you to tell me when I pulled the boat far enough off the trailer to paint under the rollers. The expression on her face was worth a thousand words as she turned to me calmly and said " Honey I don't think that's how its done" ROFLMAO

Yes, that was lousy wasn't it? I get my resin local but most of the other stuff is via ups. The new prop I bought here on iBoats is supposed to be here thursday, I hope its not a reenactment of the drive.

Thanks, looking at the pic of the teak again and the cuddy cabin door reminded me that I have to finish the teak work. Maybe I will take all that stuff off the hinges tomorrow and clean and oil it tomorrow.

I still have her 1/2 off the trailer with a bottle jack under the transom waiting for the rustoleum to cure all the way before I move it back up on the trailer.
Everywhere I read says to let it cure for a week before trailering or splashing. I waited to order the prop to force me to be patient and wait the allotted time

The next thing I am itching to do is make a new cabinet for the sink/frig/seat combo.

I was looking at some other boat cabins. I saw one tonight that the boat was only 1' bigger and that stuff fit all in the cuddy , think it was bond-o's new toy. I'm wondering if I could shorten the bed on the one side or something to install it inside to open up the deck a little.
Last week there were 5 of us fishing and it got a little crowded were I hopped on the sun deck to fish just for some elbow room

So today I got serious with the teak restoring

It might not look like much but trust me it was work. Scroll up to post #530 to see the 1/2 & 1/2 from before. I removed all wood I treated from the boat, pressure washed it ( I tried the teak cleaner but it was no match to a 2400psi )
After washing 1 then used the brightener, waited for it to dry then applied oil. It soaked the oil up like a sponge, guess its going to need more coats. The photos don't really do it justice. The color is much more uniform and a rich red color. I have to say she is starting to look sharp

Hey Bill,
Nice job on that teak. It looks great. I will have to break out my PW when I'm ready to do mine. I was planing to replace most of it, but if I can get it to look like yours I may be able to save it. I have a lot of new teak that was given to me but cleaning might be less work.

Great job on the oiling!

Don't know what your plans are, but for that missing louver, we used to make one up with only one side tab, insert that edge first, then pre-drill and insert a finish nail{or two} dipped in gorilla glue, via the door's edge...beats taking the door apart

That is gonna be so sweet looking with a few more coats.

Hey Bob,

Yep the PW is the way to go, it did a much better job than the teak cleaner & muck quicker. The only drawback with using the power washer was waiting for it to dry. if you look at the wood on my gunwales I haven't done them yet, their next along with the wood around the small louver door. I don't know if the brightener did any good, but I had it so I used it anyway.

Yes I am chomping at the bit for the new prop. It is supposed to be here tomorrow, I already have the old one off. I just checked and the last update was HODGKINS, IL, US 09/13/2010 9:49 P.M. DEPARTURE SCAN so its probably on a train somewhere between here and there.
I look at it thisway though, it gave the Rustoleum time to cure and me time to do some other work on her

That missing louver is bugging the heck out of me. I have to find some teak to make a new one. Thanks for the tip on installing the new one, I will use your method to install it once I find a piece to use. Hate to say it but the only place I have seen pieces teak around here is at Worst Marine . I am going to look on the way home from my morning meeting.

Yea I really don't like that trailer its from the other boat that is not as much of a deep V and 1' shorter. I am looking for another to stick under her , in the meantime I have the front bow stop shoved up as far as it can go and the transom is still at least 8-10" past the rollers

yeah that Teak will suck up oil endlessly.....Miranda oiled our steering wheel literally 20 times......(we used lemon oil tho)

We put a prayer in at dinner grace....hope ya got it Bill (the job)
