Man that thing is looking good. You do so much I almost get tired just reading everything you get done. Dont worry the family will all go out again. I had mine out in 3 footers in my little 18. Your boat I am sure handles chop much better than mine. I took water twice over the bow.

She looks good!

And don't forget you end up with soft hands too, using dish soap. :D

LOL

So what did I do today???????????????

Well , I went did a service call made my money for today then came home and gave the starboard side its 1st coat of paint and completed the 1st coat on the entire boat( less under the rollers) and did a 2nd coat on the transom.

THEN................. I looked at her name and she looked old and faded, so I started re-lettering her, then realized my hands were too shaky :( So I talked my wife into lending a hand

100_2005re.jpg

I was surprised that she was willing to do it without me begging LOL

And the finished product!!!!!! well almost

We didn't have a proper brush for the pinstripe so that will get done tomorrow, if wifey is still willing lol :D

Hi Damifudo,
As my dad always says, "I'll have time to rest when I die " LOL Yea, I'll get them out again;) I had my son out just last week and my wife is already planning a day trip for us and her cousin when the kids are in school WoooHooo

The boat handles great in the waves, its when I stopped driving and and started to try and fish with them. She was rocking and rolling so bad it was hard to walk on deck

My 5yo Caity tells me she wants to go out although she told me " BUT Daddy, Don't stop the boat" LOL

Just for you Paul
My dash after cleaning and oiling the teak
100_2078.jpg

Here you can see the definite line where I stopped cleaning
100_2072.jpg

An d yes I do plan on cleaning and oiling all the teak on the boat. Sometimes my ADD gets the better of me, I will be in the middle of one thing, think about something else, stop what I am doing and change directions

OK, so what did I do on the boat today????? Well my wife now thinks I am nuts lol

I asked her to come outside to give me a hand with the boat. When she came out I had the bow line tied on the transom ski hooks and the other end of the rope tied to an old oak tree. I told her (in a Jeff Foxworthy accent ) NOW Honey... I need you to tell me when I pulled the boat far enough off the trailer to paint under the rollers. The expression on her face was worth a thousand words as she turned to me calmly and said " Honey I don't think that's how its done" ROFLMAO

Hey Bill,
The teak looks great.
As for this
Well my wife now thinks I am nuts lol
We would all concur with that statement. :p
As for the taking the boat off the trailer, I got the same look when I flipped mine and ask her to sit on the bush hog to keep the tractor from flipping. :p
I guess we are all in the same boat, no pun intended.
Take care
Bob

Boat looks good Bill. Thumbs up on the lettering. If your wife does that good with the lettering, imagine what she could do with a roller..lol. You would be able to enjoy more ''beverages''.

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

I would have killed for a big oak tree. Imagine my wife looking at the anchor in the yard tied to the rear thru fittings and me on my cub cadet doing a wheelie trying to pull the boat forward off the rollers. Tell your wife that is the way its done. It says so in the Red Neck Yachting handbook.

Picture this one. Our 18'sail boat got knocked down and it was full of sand in the inner haul with no real way to wash it out except thru some inspection ports. My brother and I got the idea to throw a rope over the limb of a huge Oak in my parents back yard. With a truck we pulled the Bow up till the boat was hanging almost vertical in the tree so we could wash the sand out of the drain hole in the stern by running a hose into the inspection ports. Now imagine the neighbor walking over with a beer in his hand wondering what we are doing. We have a boat hanging from a tree limb hooked to a long rope tied to a truck half way down the drive way. It was a proud moment. Some place my brother has pictures of it.

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

Hey Damifudo, Birds of a feather flock together :D That all sounds like something anyone of us would do LOL

OK so Wifey saw what I posted last night about her  AND I heard "Your lucky I can't kick your arse for telling what I thought" HeHeHe Boy I am terrable LOL

OK Well................................ Finished Painting

I Also ordered the new prop today!!!!! Even though I will probably be under-proped I ordered the Solas Rubex 14 x 21p 4 blade from iBoats today:D
I figured even with it shy of the mark there is no way I am ever going to do 65MPH with the Sea Gem That is not what she was built for. I want to Cruise not race lol...

One of the reasons I ordered the prop today was that I don't want to put her back in the water without a new screw and I want to make sure the paint is fully cured before I dunk he back in. This solves all problems, iBoats says it will be delivered on the 16th

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

Hey Damifudo,
Were still waiting on those pics LOL

Well I was kinda lazy with the Gem this weekend

Yesterday I pressure washed the deck on our house so while Wifey was happy with that I disappeared and installed my trim tabs etc on the Transom

100_2087.jpg

While I was installing everything, I found another problem
100_2085.jpg

My exhaust bellow had disconnected
I am really wondering if this has been the cause of my prop ventilation problem

after doing some research last night and even posted to my little prop question thread to no avail. The answers come up as a mixed bag, the definition for prop ventilation is

"Ventilation occurs when surface air or exhaust gases are drawn into the propeller blades. The load on the propeller is reduced by the mixing of air or exhaust into the water steam causing over revving."

BUT then I read how some don't even run a bellow without trouble

Well to simplify my life I installed an exhaust tube instead of re-installing the bellow

Logic tells me that if the exhaust gases were dumping before the prop It could be causing the ventilation problem

thoughts or opinions ??????

EDIT- Looking at the pic I see I forgot to mention I replaced the bilge blower. The old blower crapped out on me last fishing trip:(
And with the stuff I left off I just 4200 the screws and put them back in just in case I want to mount something in the future ( in other words, I was being lazy lol)

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

Sorry I can't help on the exhaust issue. I does make sense that the prop would just be pushing turbulent water/air mixture and not getting the same load if in smooth water.

The tube seems like the way to go. Mine is in there for ease of installation as well.

Hi Sprint, Yes I too put the tube in because it was easier. this is the 2nd time its blown or pulled off. I wasn't about to kill myself putting it back on again. I installed it the 1st time on the bench with glue, the 2nd time laying under her without glue. Time to go the easy route.

The only thing I see with the tube is it is not that long, it don't take much trimming to have it away from the drive
