Figure out a way to get it home. Borrow another trailer to throw it up on or something. Then let the Bill restoration/scavaging ways kick in and I'm sure you can get it road worthy for less than $700.

I've been trying to think of a way, but the trailer is 26' long or so. I just looked at the difference between the one the boat is on now and this one and it is major. The 2x3 axle tubes have to be rated for at least 3500# as opposed to my little 1 1/2" box beams.

In the past I have rented tilt bed pindle hook equipment trailers for $40 a day that might work but I don't remember how long they were .

Today is a recovery day for me from working like an animal on the boiler install for the past 2 days. I'm going to call around to see what I can find.

The trailer looks like a pretty good project on its own.
I agree the the earlier post. Get it home somehow, Then work on it a little at a time. I'm sure you will be within budget.

After EZ posted I called the equipment company that I deal with for trailers. They have a tilt-bed that I can fit the trailer on so that's what I am going to do sometime this week. As for the parts I am going to ghetto it to get her back on the road I have plenty of steel and 2 welding machines so................ I'll make it work LOL


WELL, I am throwing care to the wind for tomorrow. Nothing is going to stop me from getting on the water I am leaving at 6:30am picking up some bunker and going out for blues Ooooh I love it!!!!!!

Just looked at NOAA and the Marine Buoy reports. according to the bouy report right now the seas are exactly 2' NOAA is reporting that they are going to be 1' or less in the am and going to 2' in the pm. I am going out alone so the seas really don't bother me too much, I don't get sea sick.

Tonight I fixed the trailer lights for the one she is on now and hooked her up to my truck. Funny story, she was sitting in a hollow so the tongue was pointing to the sky. I was not heavy enough to bring the tongue down to the hitch ball even standing on it and jumping It still wouldn't get onto the ball. So....... I had my wife stand on it and it dropped like a rock I hooked it in 20 seconds .

I only paid 400 for my used trailer and it didnt need a thing done to it since it was inpsected when I bough it. You might want to keep looking on craigslist for a boat and trailer and this time trash the boat no matter how much potential it has. LOL It is an addiction to fix things but who will admire your trailer with such a nice boat sitting on it. Keep looking for a trailer

Single axle trailers go for about $400 here. I need a dual axle 20'-24' 4600lb cap for my boat. I have been searching high and low and they go for a minimum of $1500 If you do happen to see one in your neck of the woods for $400-$700 let me know, it would be worth the trip to get it and save me some work.

Well I finally got to try out the new 4blade 14x21p I finally got to try out the new14x21p prop today I am a little sad because the slip is still off the charts I am starting to wonder if I have some hidden wet foam or if the wet rotted wood cabinets from the PO are adding weight.

The thing is even if it was wet foam or waterlogged cabinets what could it add 5-600lbs? That's the equivalent of 2 big guys on the boat LOL Today it was just little old me at 140lbs

Here are the test results:

5000rpm=56 mph 18% slip
3900rpm=41mph 25% slip
1000rpm=8mph 43% slip

getting that 56 took at least 30seconds from the 41, the revs came up but the speed was slow coming, crazy slip.

On the realistic side, I am happy going 20-30mph. That is a nice comfortable speed. I go out to have fun and fish, not to race around and be a jerk.
I wanted the extra HP for when I had a lot of people/equipment on the boat. I have to say at 25 it gets great fuel mileage.

OK, now that that is over for now I found out something more important today, I NEED TO RE-SPOOL MY REELS I was running 3 poles today live eel's and bunker, 2 deep 1 shallow, (blues and strippers) WELL I lost 3 hooks on my deep sets Grrrrrrrrrr. (here comes the fishnin story lol ) The first one I lost actually stripped the cam on my rod holder. I was relaxing, laying on the back seats of the boat when I hear BANG, my one pole was flat on the cap from a vertical position . The drag went crazy I worked her for at least 15-25 min, then the line went limp, busted line, BUT I was not cowboy'ing him! Its the junk line that came with the rods. I reeled in some 2' strippers, Released them because I wanted that 48" one lol. no blues the big strippers just snapped the line like it was nothing. So much for it supposed to being 10lb test. Maybe time to buy braided?????

It's good to see your getting out on the water. Your getting 56 mph, are you happy with that speed? It sounds quite impressive for a boat that size. And I'm jealous that your still fishing. That is one think I did miss this year. I'll make up for this winter. lol.

Wow, I have delayed reactions tonight. Started posting, phone rang, hit send when I got off the phone to find you had posed in between reading, typing, & hitting send :redface:

Hope all is well, I am not too worried with the prop slip. It might sound crazy, especially coming from me but I am not that worried about top speed. 56 mph with a 22' 4500# boat is pretty good lol, If I kept it at WOT it probably would have gone faster after a min. or so. Everything is still fresh, I didn't want to push it too hard.

Its looking like I am probably going to go get the trailer Thursday. I am renting a 30' 102 wide equipment trailer for $40 to go get her. tomorrow I am going to be tied up billing customers, Friday is the shooting range to get ready for hunting, That leaves Thursday Hum, Fishing, shooting,hunting, billing customers............ Life is good again

Dont think you need braid exactly....but get some Berkley Big Game or major brand that your comfortable with....

Yep the waves have been nuts around here. I always check NOAA and a real good site The Marine Buoy Forecast which shows the actual wave height & wind speed in 4 sec intervals. My headwid today was 11.2 mph at times the tide was knocking the buoys over.

I was out in Montauk Sat & Sunday doing a boiler. The waves were crashing like crazy. My pal Terry who is a commercial fisherman with a 55' actually came in early yesterday, he was by Block Island and said the waves were about 3 1/2- 4'

Yep 56 is not to shabby, I do want to change the carb she seemed like she was starving some when the secondaries kicked in. Too much engine, not enough fuel.

I actually had a spool of Berkley Fireline Crystal in my hand yesterday but the kids were driving me nuts in the store so I put it back and left
That 1st one was a whopper, it actually broke the toothed-lock on my pole holder Had to be a 4' and it hit real hard.

Well I am not happy with the engines performance, The Q-jet is messed up, the throttle shaft is sucking air. When I drop the hammer I can feel & hear it starving for fuel When up at WOT, the rpms start dropping by themselves.

I don't think a 600cfm would be big enough for this engine,was thinking of putting the 750cfm on her with a performer EPS. I have a Torker (not the Torker II ) but the bottom end is lousy on them. It is about the Worst manifold Edelbrock ever made.

Also figured in is a new 9"x5"Flame Arrestor. The Mercruiser 6"x2" one seems like its too small & maybe chokes the engine

56 is pretty impressive for the Sea Gem, not sure she has seen that before

What's funny is my 80 horse Merc has the same issues and I need to rebuild the carb myself since I haven't hit top speed yet either.

Different ballparks but same curveball I guess

I did have a blast, it was a nice relaxing day, except for being 1/2 asleep laying across the back seat when that one fish almost broke the rod holder off the boat. I almost jumped out of my skin LOL.
I did re-spool my reals with some 15lb big game line yesterday getting ready for next time out. Along with that I picked up a new bait cast reel for my one pole that the action sucked on.

I don't think that the SeaGem has ever seen those speeds myself, but it did have a 14x21 on her when I got her so it might have been close maybe 50mph.

I had rebuilt the carb already and knew that the shaft was leaky but didn't have the time or the money to get a new carb. Once I square away the carb troubles it will probably see high speed 1 more time, then it will be back to 20-30mph for her for the most part. I don't want to stress the old girl too much. Although the stringers and all seem solid I haven't had her totally striped down so I don't want to take any chances.

I can't spend too much more time working on her, I want to get back to my other boat, get the bottom coated with epoxy and interlux 2000 barrier coat so I can get it back on a trailer and out of the middle of my back yard before winter and snow. I have gotten spoiled with all the room on the deck of the SeaGem, I am thinking of building a jack plate and setting back the O/B about 1' to get rid of my splash well

What, you haven't learned the art of sweet talking your girl into letting you buy something for your boat yet?

See, you get her a couple of the things that she's into ( like romance novels, nail polish-tell her you'd love to see this color on her, whatever it is..cheap ), and do it out of the blue. Then a couple of days later, you get back to talking about the boat, and you bemoan that you need to replace "X", but you really don't want to spend the money, cuz it's so much...but you'd hate to see the motor get damaged from it running too lean with that undersized and leaky carburator-cuz that would cost even more and then you couldn't take her out on the boat for a long long time, because a new motor would cost THOUSANDS to replace.

It's all about what I call "plausible BS". You talk just slightly over her head, make it sound more serious than it is, and more urgent than it is, and if you can angle it where it will benefit HER in some way, you're in like Flynn.
