Picked this up in December, I wanted something I could sleep on and fish the Bay.

SANY1731.jpg

The boat is pretty solid save for some leaks that have been neglected, or ignored

SANY1747.jpg

The aft deck is, or was, pressure treated plywood with some sort of sheet vinyl glued on top

SANY1829.jpg

The subframe is attached at the stringers but just floating on that brace

SANY1815.jpg

Cabin sole was a little soft from the leaks, check out that tabing

Pulled up the sole and it seems I'm not the first one in there. That is a piece of PVC for the wire chase

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. What power train do you have in it?

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

318 Chrysler RWC
Paragon reverse gear
Paragon V drive

Probably gonna do a long block with fresh water cooling. The engine in there now is freeze damaged.

The trailer is new custom made. I think it's a little light so I will be adding an axle and some gussets.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

Your boat looks darn near identical to my Luhrs 28. Mine had a Chrysler 360 V8/Paragon V-drive originally. By the way mine also has a big PVC pipe for the under-cabin wiring chase so that could be the way they were built at the factory.

It looks like you have a fun project there. I wish you many hours of happy boat-work.

I've been following your thread, sure would like to see some pictures of how your aft deck subframe is set up.

The diesel refit is sweet!!!!!!!

From what I can find out Luhrs and Ulrichsen had some sort of partnership. Luhrs built the hull and ulrichsen finished it.

Can't remember when PVC came out, but I thought it was after '69. The only other clue that it had been open before was a missing bulkhead under the cabin sole.

I know most of the Paragon stuff is NLA. So I'm hoping they don't need anything major.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

sqbtr: Thanks for the compliments on my project. I don't have any photos of the underside of my aft deck but I can tell you it's 2 layers of fiberglass with about 1" of filler stuff in between and doesn't have any wood framing. It has box-shaped "beams" formed out of fiberglass, measuring around 2" x 3" (hollow box sections I believe), in a grid pattern. Some of the box-beams run fore-aft, and some run crosswise. It looks to me like they must've made the whole deck section upside down in the factory and then flipped it and glassed into the boat.

Mine also has (2) vertical wood 2" x 3"'s sort of hugging the bellhousing/transmission, to help support the deck. The bottom end of these supports sits on the 2 main longitudinal stringers.

I'll see if I can dig up any photos that might help you.

I won't be over at the boatyard now until next Saturday but I'd happy to take pics of anything you want to see then.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

It's been cold here, wanted to scrub and coat the cabin bilge but my little heater could't keep the water from freezing.

Went ahead and cut the cabin floor boards. They will be sealed. If anybody is wondering Bosch blades do fit the HF multitool.

SANY1836.jpg

SANY1834.jpg

The original floor was just a '4 wide piece of 3/4 ply. The width actually varied from "50 to "51. They just bridged the gap with that heavy roving.

SANY1839.jpg

Good to see some progress and have a flat place to work.

The cabin door is doing on the starboard side. The ladder to the flybridge will be relocated to the center. I want to put in a L lounge that will convert to 2 bunks on the port side of the cabin.

Thanks for the pictures Luhrs 28. The more I look at my subframe the more I want to pull it out and start over.

We have had a '68 25' Ulrichsen for about 2 years. It had been completely gutted when we got it. We are searching for any pictures or blue prints of what the inside would have looked like. We have not a clue about how to restore, but keep asking questions and going to boat shows. We want to use it for scuba diving, cruising, etc. Any information would be appreciated.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

I know you guys are working on Luhrs but they sure do look similar to my Revel Craft, down to the cabin layout and drive train. I do not have a flybridge. (24' -1969 model w/ 273 chrysler/ velvet drive)
Ever hear of revel craft?
I'm starting on it as soon as the little boat gets done.

Got the bottom of the sole sealed up

SANY1852.jpg

It originally had a bunch of scrap wood shoring up the V berth sole. Pulled it out and fit this 2X4 in there

All glassed in

This is where the multitool really comes in handy

Good work! Are you finding any poblems with the stringers? I am going to have to replace some portions of mine.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

No problem with the stringers, the engine cradle is another thing. I'll deal with it when I get that far.

Looks like great big ole oak timbers without any sealer.
