A priest in Italy is having to appear in court to prove the historical fact of Jesus' existence. <br /><br />Atheist Luigi Cascioli has accused Father Enrico Righi of "abusing popular credulity" and a judge has ruled he has a case to answer.<br /><br />Do you agree with the judge? What evidence is there of Jesus' existence? (cp)

A troll??????<br />Anyways, I believe wholeheartedly that Jesus was and did come to earth, sent by our Father.<br />Proof: The Bible. <br />One must have faith to believe in things that are not seen.<br />"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

There is actually more evidence that Jesus was on earth as there is that Lincoln was.

I do personally believe that jesus existed, as to whether he was the messiah or not, i don't know, but i saw an actual photograph of pres Lincoln a few times, and then there are letters and manuscripts of his speeches in the library of congress.

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

This is a nice example of a very bored atheist who should get a life.<br />As for proof, there are the letters of the apostles which in a way are more credible than the gospels, mostly because the gospels were written about 150 years later (except for Mark which was written about 80 AD)and were endlessly edited.<br />As for extra biblical proof,I was under the Holy sepulchre in Jerusalem in one of the caves that are not usually open to the public and the Armenian Bishop showed us the bare rock walls of what used to be Golgotha. There was an inscription there. It said:"Anno Domini CXX Dominos Veminos".This translates into:"In the year of our Lord 120,our Lord we have come".The interesting thing here is the date AD 120,used only by christians in that time, while the outside world used the roman calendar which was in a totally different year<br />The bishop explained to us that this was an inscription made by pilgrims who visited the ruined city of Jerusalem.

I doubt that Jesus was "sent", that he was a virgin birth and that he was divine, but I do not doubt for a moment that he lived.

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

Like Rolmops said, the Bible was written over a hundred years after Jesus, almost all of it transcribed from hearsay, and edited and re-edited countless times in the last two thousand years at the behest of popes and kings to suit the their whims and fancies.<br />The Bible in its present form is but a tool only to be administered for benefit of conforming human beings to believe that they are superior and must control all that is earthly.<br />What is truly ironic, it says pretty much the same darn thing in another holy book called the Koran, which serves up the same dogmatic agenda as the Bible, perhaps with a somewhat slightly different flavor, but nevertheless if it walks and talks like a duck, then a duck it is.

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

It’s a good question. I heard a couple biblical scholars discussing this a little over a year ago. If the question is asked regarding tangible evidence that would be acceptable in today’s courts, then, no, the evidence isn’t here. If I remember correctly, the earliest writing of the Gospels that still exists are dated a few centuries AD. However, if you consider the extent of written records regarding Jesus Christ, and the distribution of those writings, it is nowhere near reasonable to take the position he did not exist.<br /><br />We tend to think of the stuff written about Jesus Christ as being from the mid-East only. It isn’t. Only within the last few years have the ancient archives within some of East-Asian Buddhist monasteries been made somewhat accessible to western scholars. Discovered therein are ancient writings regarding Jesus Christ, his ministry, and detailed descriptions of how he lived his day-to-day life, something that is missing for the mid-East writings. From what these bible guys were saying it will be decades before anyone can fully assimilate the stuff the Buddhists have, presuming access to the documents will be available. Kind of ironic the Buddhists have more info on Jesus Christ than his followers do. And yes, those documents do indicate the Christ as divine.<br /><br />I’ve been told the Muslin faith also holds Jesus Christ as divine, but not to the higher level that the Christian faiths do, or that the Buddhists’ archives imply. That puts Jesus Christ spread out over an overwhelming majority of the world’s faith. If he didn’t exist, we are onto the mother of all conspiracies. But it doesn’t end there.<br /><br />Every surviving culture on the South Pacific islands has a legend of a man dress in white visiting them after 3-days of darkness. Those 3 days of darkness are described in the New Testament; the purpose of his visit was to help them get their lives in order. It’s one heck of an implication, but hey, I don’t have a clue about it.<br /><br />Perhaps a better question isn’t whether or not Jesus existed, or whether he had a ministry, but rather what exactly was the full extent of his ministry when he was here?

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

Ok I would like to make a couple of points....The Bible is a very old book that those who hate Christians and/or just don’t believe have had 2000+ yrs to show any falsehoods, and yet it has not been done yet. If that were to happen it would be huge victory to those who atnd against Christian beliefs, Agreed? What I mean is there are many things that can't be proven true but there is nothing that can be proven a lie or false. That to me speaks volumes because much of the Bible can be explained as truth and proven to have happened how it was writen. There is a great deal of things that are implied to have happened that most likly did as well. Another thing if I or anybody with any kind of credentials were to say the Vietnam War never happened or the holocaust s/p? Never happened or we had a space ship land here on earth in 1910 or Jesus was born in 1920 and in 1954 was crucified, people would line up to say oh heck no, I was there I saw it differently or heck no that didn’t happen. Well much of the New Testament was written and lived out in a time where many people would have still been alive to dispute the apostle’s writings and teaching. Thousands witnessed Christs miracles and only some of them are spoken of in the Bible so think of how many peopl would have met Christ and if he was a fake how many would have come forth. Also many here believe in Galileo’s findings with gravity and all.....his studies took place many years ago and yet you believe it, right. Well as the apostles went out and taught The Way or the Christian lifestyle, if it was something based on only legend do you honestly believe it would have become what it has?

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

Also there are many writings by well known Pagan Roman Scholars speaking of Jesus, though not as a messiah but as a political/religeous leader or rebel leading his people the "Christians" which ment those who were Christ like, so it is a pretty safe assumption he did exsist. As to if he was the Son of God and died to pay for our sins, it is up to each person to decide if they believe what the Bible tells them is the truth<br /><br />18rabbit, The muslems believe Jesus to be a prophet.
