I have quite the waterline on my boat. I just bought it off an older fella and he left it in the lake for 2 years. I was wondering what kind of advice you could give my as far as getting rid of it.

more than likeley the foam under your floor is waterlogged ......cut a hole in the floor in the middle and check the foan and floor ....i just got mine a month ago and after removing the floor the foam the stringers and the transom...just with that i removed about 600 lbs of water weight from my boat and it sits allot higher now and faster;)

i plan on pulling the floor up in the next couple of weeks anyways so ill check it then. I have been looking around the forums and i think you might be onto something with the foam. the boat lists to the left quite bad so i imagine the foam is saturated. What kind of foam is the best?

Re: waterline on boat

I actually don't know what kind of boat it is. I was going to post pictures but the files are to big and it won't allow me. Its a 16.5 ft fiberglass. The boat has no markings or indentification numbers of any kind which i thought was kind of weird. I do know it has a 82' 70 horse evinrude on it. But thats about it.

Re: waterline on boat

I was just out looking at my boat and saw that there is a hole coming out from under the floor at the back of the boat. it is about the same size as the plug hole and located directly in front of it. My question is ... should that be there or is that a good indication someone knew there was water in the boat and decided that would be the easiest way to get rid of it? p.s. what is the name of the foam you use reelsjello2

Re: waterline on boat

i paid 1200 for the boat. I figured it would be a good starter boat for me. I wish i would have known more about them before i actually made a purchase. But live and learn i suppose. The motor runs great and has great compression so i suppose i didn't get a bad deal. I'd post some pictures but all that ones that i have are too big. and the hole is below the floor so i will cover that up asap. Thank you for your advice.

Re: waterline on boat

next question did yo get the trailer too.......try running your picks through paint in your accesorys program from your start menue and lowering your pixles or file size .... 1200 you could probably get that out of the motor ...not a bad deal but more than alot of peaople would have done... dont get descouraged with a little work you can have the boat of your dreams..thats what im doing when i boght my boat i paid 300 and the trailer is worth 700 alone ....engine 60hp johnson runs like a dram...1500 ... but like i said dont get discouraged in tnese forums you can do the work yourself...give you something to do.. and be proud of your work.. and you can coustomize the boat to what you want

im doing a major costomosation to my boat and as soon as i get a cable for my camera ill be postin pics ....im even going to put a hartop convertible with a extendable foof on my boat because when i camp i sleep on my boat and im making it a boat/camper (i hope) and cool as hell ....but everything im learning im learming because of these people in these forums....

my email is davidleithoff@rocketmail.com please send me picks...
:p:p:p:cool::cool:

Re: waterline on boat

That outboard you got is one of the best ever made. Take care of it and it will serve you well. Should also be good power for a 16.5'. Chance are good that your hull is waterlogged. If it was mine, I'd rip it all out and see what's doin' under the deck. I'd replace the foam with the pink or blue sheet foam from Lowes/HD. Like this: http://forums.iboats.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32838&d=1247487835

Best way to post pictures is to create a free account on photobucket.com and upload them there. That site will even let you resize them to the forum-acceptable size of 640x480 with a simple click.

Are you talking about a mark on the hull you want to clean off?

Or are you saying the boat is sitting to deep in the water?

Re: waterline on boat

Are there pics I'm not seeing????? I clicked on this thread because I thought it was a "how do I get the scum off my boat" post, and the first thing I see is talking about cutting out the floor?!?!?!?! Was there mention of a soft floor that I flew by? (certainly possible). "Holes in the back of the boat".... is this through the floor on the inside of the boat, or through the transom (vertical "back" of the boat)??? Are these holes that are rotted through, or are they brass, or what??? REALLY need some pictures here asap.... I think things may be getting far ahead of where they need to be.

Couple things of concern:
OP mentions listing. Def. needs some investigation- again, pics in water would help.

OP is planning to remove the floor- why? Is it soft? Or is that just to check out why it is "listing"?

Email your pics to Meals on Reels and have him resize/post for you.
Could very well need some floor and foam surgery, I'm not saying it doesn't.... I'm just saying you might want to slow down a smidge. More info, please.

Re: waterline on boat

If all your trying to do is get rid of a scum line then use TSP..buy it in any hardware store for 5-6 bucks..apply with a spray bottle (keep it wet) goodbuy stains..

This really depends on the design of the boat... some are "supposed" to be there, sometimes they aren't...

I have a 15' Riviera Bowrider, that doesn't use foam between the outer hull and floor for the entire boat, it has two of those drain holes on either side of the keel to allow water that runs anywhere under the floor deck to purposely drain to the tiny little bilge area it has... they are also the same size as a standard drain hole (1"). If I were to plug them up, then water would just sit in the bottom of the boat, and rot out the floor... (thats why I already had to re-floor it once).

If the design of the boat uses foam under the flooring, then you probably wouldnt want them there, as it will just allow water intrusion into the foam.

Best thing to do like mentioned, is to post some pictures of what you are referring too... but if you are planning to pull the floor up anyway, you will get a better idea of whats there and what to do.

My thoughts exactly!!!!!!!
This thread is like the blind leading the blind and nothing but torn open hulls and big $ at the end of it. Lets slow down here and explain a some more.

Re: waterline on boat

Also the list could be as simple as prop torque. Since he mentions it leans to the port. At least I think he means port, he did say left.

Re: waterline on boat

Lol i meant port and i did say left. ( not quite up on my nauticle terms..first boat) and i was looking at my lower leg today and realized that the very bottom..the peice i assume that acts as the rudder is bent and a little bit twisted. i don't know if this could explain why i am listing or not. Sorry for the cluttered thread. this is also my first time belonging to a forum. In the future i will try and stay on topic. Sorry all. here are a coulple of pictures as well i will post more later.

Re: waterline on boat

i just went and drilled a hole im my floor! GOT PROBLEMS. First of all its a floor over the original floor. both layers of plywood and fiberglass are completely saturated in water. I also couldn't find any foam in there. The drainplug that comes from the bottom of the floor into the bilge area is definetly supposed to be there ( it has thread's in it) im not sure where i should proceed from here. Any advice would help.
