Yeah, that's bettwe than last nights plan, so lets go with that. better support over the gas tank, now do you go with 5/8" plywood? or 3/4". I know the orginal wasn't that thick but if it's do able then it's worth it for the added strength, IMO

Re: Tater's floor job

I had a 17' Marlin with a 115 Mercury in the early 70's. Very similar hull design to yours. I still think of that boat as the most versatile boat I've ever owned. I think it was the shape of the bow and having the two "outrigger" parts of the hull back a couple of feet like yours. I could cut power and run comfortably through a 3-4' chop out on Suisun bay, or run across big boat wakes really easily. And had loads of room and stability for family use- fishing, skiing (no tubing or wakeboarding back then). I might have to look a similar one as a project...

Good luck, looks like you're really moving along well!;)

Re: Tater's floor job

Yeah this hull and weight rides a lot better than mine, 15.5' Mark Twain with an 115 outboard. My boat rides over the wakes and traps a lot more up the "wings"

Gets annoying, currently boat shopping. It's nice to beat you to 35 but you have me from there lol.

Re: Tater's floor job

Straight lines on that wood is best since not as much peanut butter and less time needed to make the new floor fit.

I know you need 2 sheet sbut could get away with half sheet but will probably need a full 3rd. If you get some decent measurements and I can figure out what is needed.

Re: Webbcraft deck replacement

dont bring the child into this...lol

yeah, they let me back my truck into the doors a bit and gave me a lot of plastic to cover it with.

got home and the neighbor let me use some sort of 4x8 plywood carrying handle contraption, pretty cool i guess.

its drying out in the garage while i make templetes hopfully tonight.

major demolition is complete, may need some fine tuning, i think i am abandoning the tap idea and cutting flush with the gunwhale shelve and laying glass to that, it will be much easier to fit. the bow is still a concern. baby steps....

You may want to build that support for the bow floor before you start in the other floor. I think it's best to leave the fiberglass up there and not put a piece of wood.

Just get some 2X4's and build a structure off the bottom of the boat, not in the valley and there should be too much trouble with keeping the wood dry up there.

Re: Tater's floor job

I just "bought" a 1987 Eagle One bass boat. I wanted a project boat, and I was dumb enough to get one. Anyhow, this posting, and this forum is an inspiration considering the POS I have on my hands. My wife thinks (knows) I've lost my mind.

Thanks for helping me keep part of my sanity and knowing I am working (maybe) in the right direction.

you and me both, im not easily deterred by difficult projects, however not ever doing a boat deck before has left me pretty unhappy some nights and self medicating it with coors light! Im sure ill make many mistakes along the way and so will you! lets see your project boat!

best advice i can give you concerning a boat project and iboats combined is this: do your own research and trust only yourself. There are lots of opinions on what is right and wrong on this forum and people will argue it non stop, simply take into consideration everyones opinion, formulate your own opinion and do what you feel is best.

good example is people arguing the best way to winterize a boat, how long has the internal combustion engine been on boats and people still argue how to do it? crazyness lol. good luck and God speed lol...Most of all, welcome to iboats.

Concerning that wood under the bow, use that pry bar and beat all that crap out of there. That wood/fiberglass isn't strong enough anymore to support the bow anyway since it cracks and makes noise when you walk up there. Since that "stringer" running up to there was cut for that swet cooler it's strength was comprimised. I built a support under mine because it was sagging so bad, it would suck to see yours sag after you did this floor project without supporting it.

I will be back on like next thursday so we can get moving on fitment and fiberglassing the floor in.

you can see in the following picture a larger gap where the foam simply never existed? regardless its a low spot that will put stress on the deck when stepped on, a $5 can of foam is worth correcting the "mass production" flaws.

alrighty...here is tonights business. First things first, I had to take care of the wood under the bow cap. This was all about hard work and heavy work with a pry bar and beer.

Cutting along the sides and "gently" lol breaking wood out from under the bow cap. This will allow me to slide the wood underneath.

here is what i started with...
IMGA0005.jpg

I had to cut towards the most forward horizontal stringer....
IMGA0007.jpg

I had to "gently" :D use a pry bar+hammer combo to declare battle on rotten wood underneath the bow cap...
IMGA0008.jpg

I had cleared a space for my 23/32 ext plywood to slide underneath the cap...
IMGA0010.jpg

Here is where im sitting now. After the deck is slid under the bow cap, I can add another coat of glass to the cap floor (after pulling carpet) and overlap it onto the new deck.

Moving on...I ran the shop vac for a hot minute and decided to test run the big gap right stuff spray fun from THE Walmart. I decided to fill my core tests on the foam as well as fill the manufactures leveling gaps. check it out...

test cores...on the port rear

I used the spray foam, it comes out pretty fast...and unpredictable however it does its job. Go ahead and be messy, because you will have to shave some down prior to fitting the deck. Wear gloves or simply dont spread it around with anything, it just makes things worst and your hands are screwed for a few days. No love from wifey with solid black man mitts....

Re: Webbcraft deck replacement

last time my boat got some upgrades must have been in the mid 80's because the steering wheel, gauges, glove box cover, etc are ugly as all hell!

I had decided to make the boat interior have a classic 70's look that has a muscle car or classic car feel. lots of sleek chrome that doesnt really jump out at you, rather it blends in with class.

Being a long time classic car lover and i have owned my fair share, the most sexy interior goes to 60's era chevy bel airs. sleek, sexy, chrome, yet tastefull. I simply love the feel of it. going for this "style" im hooked on all new gauges, chrome flat bezels with white faces and simple black needles, a not too dark but dark wood dash on both sides of the helm and glove box area, the wood cant stand out too much, rather be un noticalbe but yet beautiful..(you see one day what i mean), and the star on top of the tree...my uflex chrome steering wheel. i love this wheel, not a big fan of what looks like fake carbon fiber in the center cap, maybe i can make a dash-wood-matching center cap.

after vividly describing the "style" of the new interior to the wife she was onboard, and beleive it or not, even after nights complaining im working too much on the boat and not spending enough time with her,,,she buys me my steering wheel
