Looking nice, great use of Hellweg's Hell House weights. The hammer is extra weight is key.

Looks even better in person. Need to get that last piece/pieces in place and we can get on that fiberglass. Well rebuild that stringer then we can get on the fiberglass.

Re: Webbcraft deck replacement

the towels and juice rolled in today.

15 yards of 10 oz E-glass 50" wide and 3 gallons of resin...a few scrap peices of glass from tower of powers left over, very thick and good for my stringer splice.

Re: Webbcraft deck replacement

so far so good, moving slow.... but like my platoon sergeant used to say, slow is smooth and smooth is fast...I used to tell him, with respect, that was the dumbest thing ive ever heard, however....here we are

glassing the small, inner stringer support prior to building the larger, floating, foam filled stringers.

IMGA0045.jpg

since i rarely get the chance to work under daylight (wifes class was cancelled and we slammed down some olive garden when i got home) thought i would show where we are so far, everything done, just need to glass outter stringer and finish front floor.
IMGA0047.jpg

its a mess, but after i was done working i spent some time cleaning up, and drinking beer.
IMGA0046.jpg

this pic is the mock up of the floating outter stringer, i couldnt show a pic of it now because it is covered in barbell weights while the PL dries. its 1/4" ply with a foam block inside, basically support for two layers of 10 oz glass.
IMGA0038.jpg

tomorrow i will glass this outter stringer, then its just laying the last two peices of floor and we are good to go. once the canadian cleans up after that KICK *** halloween party we will be good to go!

It that why the blinds were up in that room? So you did pee out the window and peed on to my roof as well. Very classy especially since it's the street side of my house.

I should have some time soon, clean up is crazy 40 people make a mess between 7 trash bags of just bottles and cans and all the spilled drinks and beer pong tables.

Re: Webbcraft deck replacement

my bad i forgot how classy of a party it was when your wife had to throw a guy out :D

i was inspecting your gutters to ensure proper drainage since we have this storm brewing today. your lucky i surveyed your roof for free. everything looks fine, gutters are clear, since there are no trees nearby i assumed as much, but you can never to be too sure.

i would however look into putting a screen in that window, if i had fell out in my drunkin stuper i would have sued you and taken the twain for my own.

Re: Webbcraft deck replacement

helped the neighbors chop up wood from the many fallen trees. that storm messed up everybodys stuff but mine. the wife did a pretty good job and checking on the boat tarp time and time again. since the wind died and the rain appears to be away for the rest of the night i cant afford to loose a day of glass work. I wore my gas mask and got to work. sanded out the new stringer, prepped and hit it with a sheet of glass. im getter much better at fiberglass work each time i use it. utilizing time and amount of resin to make. it looks pretty good, i will scuff that hope tomorrow and put another layer down. then off to finish the rest of the deck.

After this its all about scheduling and avoiding freezes which most of this week appears to be. The weekend looks promising.

Did the sander work out for ya? I bet it was fuming inside that boat-tent thingy.

I do have some portable heaters that have a temp setting on them if you are afraid that you might get a freeze. It should be able to heat it to 40 ish on a close to freezing night. You want to do boat repairs instead of fishing this weekend?

Re: Webbcraft deck replacement

yes sir, the DA sander works quite well, one of my favorite HF pick ups, PSA sheets are a bit pricey.

When working under the tent you MUST wear the pro mask, im pretty sure you will die if you dont. luckily i have mil spec equipment.

tonight i hit a milestone. the stringer finish, the wood deck completley done and i started shop vac-ing the deck.

tomorrow i will sand the entire deck, scuff the fiberglass tabs and do minor PL work along the seems. I will cover it all with old bed sheets as i go so not to leave dirty footprints as i sand the wood. the next two nights here in SW Ohio are below freezing, so I will not be glassing untill the weekend.

tomorrow im going to shop carpets, i found one i like, need a swatch or better pick, its called captains choice and a link from somewhere around this site, i like it and will post the link later.

here are a few pics, sorry about the quality, as all my two subscribers know, i have to work at night....

inspected the glasses floating stringer

another layer was not neccessary considering i built ribs much like a old car headliner for the front and fron center, most traffic areas

got out of work super early, utilized daylight and got to work prepping/sanding for glass this weekend. I did not get as much done as i hoped, i was short of manpower. i sanded a bit and grinded here and there. here are a few rare daylight pics

here is a final pic of the "tab thoery" when your deck isnt in too bad of shape, transom and stingers ok, a lot of folks around here say if your floor is soft, than all your stringers are bad and your transom is falling off the back, a lot of times true, but if its not broke (rotten) dont fix it. with a thorough and honest investigation of foam, transom and stringers one can decide what needs to be done. even if your floor is decent, factory floors are only half as good as what you can make them. do it right, do it right, do it right! you dont need a complete restoration when you only need new floormats...

back to the tab job, heres a close up of how it works

That poor shop vac still work?

Looks good when you thinking about glassing?

You going to tab in the outside and then try and do 2 full sheet's front to back of fiberglass for the floor? So 6" of tabbing strips and then 2 12' long or so pieces of fiberglass.

You're doing some great work there. You guys ripping out floors and transoms are doing much more manly work than I am. I feel like I'm just messing around with a few little mechanical bits by comparison.

dont let it fool you, redoing a deck is pretty easy, just very time consuming. pateince is key, however im up against a deadline of the on-coming winter weather balanced between work, wife and kid.

My first thought was to have the job done within three weeks, im not sure but i think it has been over a month now.

I just finished sanding/leveling the majority of the deck. I need to spend a few minutes prepping where the trim motor was and around the dog house. a hot minute shop vaccing the dust up and ready for glass. we have the next too nights looking pretty cold here in SW ohio, but if i can lay some glass down it should be cured by next week when i get a chance to get back in it.

I got two swatches from capri carpet in today. the mariners choice jasmine and captains choice blue. i like the captains choice in 24oz because of its retro look. the swatch they sent was a bit small but it matches well with the interior. that will be on order next week.

when glassing day comes ill take pics of boat in sunlight to show my progress.
