Hello I was wondering why boats don't have a turn signal? I boat the Potomac river and it can get very busy at times and one time I wanted to turn left into a side stream and the incoming boat kept on going to his port side to keep me on his starboard side so I ended up stopping and wait for hem to pass or we would have crashed:eek:

probably because they have troubles painting the white and yellow lines on the water....

This has to do with the propeller torque and having your wight to to balance the boat

Seems like you never took a boaters course my friend. As taught to me you simply use your center finger to signal your intents. Left hand for a left turn, right hand for a right turn. Pretty simple really. It may confuse the newbs out there but any seasoned boater will recognize your proper protocol and be quite appreciative.

Would you put a teen in a car to drive without any instructions or a drivers test? That is why it is mandatory for the younger generations to go through a safe boating course. Those that are ignorant of that requirement will find out when they get pulled over for an ignorance of a law that they broke.

LOL!

They work as brake lights (like someone is going to be able to keep up with you...).

Here are two shots of the engine:

Red one is the new 2009 model. Other one is an older Calloway 'ba**s to the wall' edition!

Pick up a copy of Chapman's Piloting & Seamanship. It's a big, expensive book, but older versions can be bought from Craigslist for as little as ten bucks.

All the basics are in there, including how to use your horn to signal intentions.

Of course, you can only hope that the OTHER boater has read it too! LOL!

Best of luck.

Now that's funny :D

They seem to teach that course to the Down State'ers from NY and NJ when they use their boats up here. That's how they signal when they go by you 10 feet away and throw off this huge wake while you're trying to fish. I never realized they were actually taught how to do that thing with their finger. I thought it was just inbred from their parents :D

People don't use them on cars, what makes you think they would use them on the water.
