BTMC not many people can say they married a child hood friend. Congrats. I meet my wife in High school and have been Married 22 years. Can we really say we know everything about our wives?

David - thanks and congrats to you too - 22 years is pretty good these days!! And yes, I can say after all this time, I do know everything about my wife, which is a good thing. Now, on the other hand, she also knows everything about me.......uh oh...a not so good thing!! Hey, but she is still here!! Again, good luck and I am sure you will come to a good compromise.

Hate to say it but your wife is right, it's "your" boat. (Is he allowed to drive a car at this point?) I am just saying stop and think about the message you are giving him. "I don't have enough faith in you to let you use the "family" boat. I don't know that I'd be crazy about boating at age 17 in that situation either. If you don't think he is capable then that sort of falls back on you too for not getting him in a boating class and showing him how to handle the boat to a point you are comfortable with it.

Although my step son is very good with the boat there is no way I would let him take my truck and new boat out to the water with his buddies. When we go out I have no problem letting him drive and have his friends with us. If we were taking about an older boat that would be a different story.

To the OP: I think if you had your wife invite a friend of hers with you that would maybe help her want to be on the boat more. I am lucky to have a wife that loves to water ski and I really want to learn how to wake board. We also both like to fish so that also helps. I agree with others if you could somehow involve the two camping and boating it would help a lot. We like to do both and usually try for the spots you have your boat right next to your camp spot. That way if she wants to stay at camp you can have some fun. You might also have an "adult" time on the boat somewhere away from the kids!! (if you know what I mean)

Yeah getting everyone out at 7am sounds nasty. We leave when we leave, usually 9am or 10am. But we don't have intense heat to worry about either. I bet if you just put boating aside for awhile and focussed on camping and having fun, they may come around again. Little give and take there.

If we left for the lake at that time we would not be able to park in the free boat launch at our lake. I try to leave at 7 maybe 8 at the latest and that is pushing it to get there in time to get a spot. I just don't see the need to pay a $25 launch fee on the side of the lake I hate going to due to all the hundreds of boats on that side of the lake.

Thanks Prince for your comments.

Re: Wife told me she is not into boating as much

-Sorry if someone has already suggested this: To the OP: I was in the same situation years ago. My wife and kids enjoyed skiing and tubing, but as the boys got older, their interests changed, and didn't want to go. Then, by chance, I lucked into a cheap, used pontoon houseboat. Voila! We all loved it, and spent every other summer weekend on it for 3 seasons. We towed the ski boat down the river and tied to a tree. It was like camping almost, but better. The boys could sleep in, toast marshmallows, invite friends along, stay up late, etc....My wife loved it too. When the time came, I sold it for what I paid.

Now I'm much older, tool around with the dog in a 14' geezer boat (aluminum with outboard), but have great memories of our time together on that old houseboat. Maybe rent one a couple times a year to try it out?

Thank you likalar.

I like the toon Idea. Still have to have a Speed boat too. I have seen plenty of rented toons with 12 People in Orange Life vest and Polo Shirts. A Site to be seen.

Let me add one thing. Camping in the lakes is difficult unless you have something air conditioned. During the cooler months is not a problem but the water is cold to swim.

COLD to swim.... funny how relative that is bud, I remember when we didn't want to swim if the water was below 70 degrees now were in the water around 55 degrees LOL

of course when the temperature is 100 degrees I can see how 70 degree water could be cold to the touch, I sooooo envy you LOL

LOL Lipp. The family will not even swim in the Pool unless its 70 degree. Me I can tolerate cold water down to 60.

Well see that is where its good to be the Captain, and in this case the Captain has decided it is time for the Crew to abandon ship so that the Captain and the Admiral can spend some time together, the Captain reserves the right to throw the Crew overboard at anytime during the cruise...

This can also work with Pools, ask me how I know....

in all honesty bud you have to have fun, tossing the kids in and getting tossed by the kids (or the wife) just makes boating fun, I have a gorgeous boat, its my dream boat but I'm not so anal that we don't have fun with it, tie ups are awesome for a couples day or family day, Boating with my Step Son is one of the times I cherish the most since we have had times in our relationship that I am not proud of but I do what ever I can to include him in boating, he loves to drive the boat as does my wife so I can see where everyone says to include everyone in the responsibilities its a rewarding experience, but the crew needs to understand that the Captain reserves the right to toss them overboard without prior notice, but beware who puts your sunscreen on, treat them nicely!!

Re: Wife told me she is not into boating as much

When shopping for our boat my wife had a hand in it even down to the color. Two years and still havent given it a name. No one in the family can agree on a name. So if its "MY BOAT" I will name it. ;) "MY BOAT" ;) or name it the” 5am boater”
Even though its not my dream boat I paid cash for it and didn’t get a loan. I love the boat and its not going anywhere without me. It does everything I want it to do without breaking the GAS bank.

YOur wife probably does have friends who would enjoy some time on the water. This is how I got my wife interested. Good for me too because she has some really hot friends.

Start introducing your wife to other boat people.
Loudly introduce her as MY PRESENT WIFE !!!!!
she just might start to like the things you like as well.
