Hey it's a great vehicle! I've had mine on some "grass" trails around the area in 4wd. nice ride... quiet truck... and it tows my boat great.

I looked at tons of different vehicles. Jimmy's hold thier value well if well kept and the SLT models have everything you could imagine needing or not needing. I like the automatic headlamps and self-tinting mirrors.

Did you get the tow package with it? i'd love to see a pic.

We use a gas powered golf cart to launch a small jet ski at my father in law's lake, does a damn good job as long as its not wet on the grass!!

well don't know if it would be considered a tow vehicle but there is a guy here that hauls his fairly new suzuka quad in the hatch of a 1978 chevette personally i think i would have opted for a new vehicle before the qaud but thats just my choice i think my worse was a 97 jeep wrangler 4 cyl 5 speed it couldn't pull itself up a grade in fifth gear let alone the quad trailer at the time

Well it is the SLT and has lots of bells and whistles fitted. I can live without them as long as it tows the boat well. I will post some pics when I take some.
Thanks for the input.

I am getting ready to tug this back to California from Indiana. It is a 21 ft. 1970 Chieftain and I am pulling it with a 2005 Kia Sedona. Wheel bearings replaced and surge brakes overhauled.

It's not as bad as it looks. I took it for a 50 mile test ride and you could hardly tell it was back there.

You shouldn't have any trouble with that, that boat isn't that heavy and if it's properly placed on the trailer and the trailer is in good condition you should be fine. Just take it easy in the hills and stay out of overdrive on the up hill runs.
Take it easy and you shouldn't have any trouble, don't push the vehicle any harder than it wants to go and plan your stops in advance.

Not alot of hills in Indiana but I managed to find a few for the test drive.

I rolled it across one of the closed highway scales on the way 2658 lbs.

The sedona comes with a tranny and oil cooler. The only thing they add when you order the "tow package" is a hitch and wiring.

You right not one problem. I am glad I replaced all the wheel bearings on the trailer. I tried varing the speed on the way back. I could tow it at 70 mph but the gas milage went from 15 mpg to 8 mpg. At 55 mph I could pull it through the mountain passes and it just wanted to kick into 3 gear at 4000 rpms.

94 Mitsubishi Expo LRV, 90 HP 4 cyl, 5-speed manual, FWD only.

Severely underpowered just by itself, could not maintain speed on any hill even without towing. But my wife loved the car!

Pulling a 14' SeaRayder (with full fuel tank still under 1200 pounds), a transmission seal started to go.

Re: Worst tow vehicle you have used !!!

A guy in my neighborhood used to tow an old ski boat with his BMW 633CSI (mid-80s model).

The worst I ever did personally was tow a 20' bowrider with a Jeep Scrambler. I figured the wheel base was about the same as a Cherokee so it wouldn't be too bad. I was wrong. I'm just glad we only had about 3 miles to tow.

Personally, I wouldn't tow much more than a jon boat with a front wheel drive vehicle. Having the drive wheels at the opposite end from the tongue weight and where you need the most traction puts you at a disadvantage from the start.

I would guess that tops with a Windstar would be somewhere around 1500 lbs total on a proper hitch. They also do not handle much tongue weight either.
My '94 2.3L four cylinder Ranger does fine with most any trailer, my only concern with that would be traction on a steep or slippery ramp with a heavier boat. I've towed as large as a 24' Welcraft with it which weighed in at about 4100 lbs or so. It did ok, I could have used a heavier truck, but it did the job and I didn't feel at any point that I was overworking the truck or unsafe. The most I towed all time with that truck was a steel 16' tandem axle open car trailer with an E150 conversion van on it for about 80 miles, it did fine but it was slow going. The Ranger has a class IV frame hitch and is wired for any trailer I may need to tow. On heavier trailers I always use a weight distributing hitch. It's not my tow vehicle of choice, but it gets the job done when needed. I also have a one ton Dodge van, it does fine on the road, but is pretty lame on slick surfaces. It gets stuck on wet grass, literally. It's also got a full tow package and is set up with a highly modified trans and a huge cooler, along with a class V hitch. Again, it wasn't my first choice in a tow vehicle, but since I already had the van, I set it up to do the job at hand.

Sounds like you are all set with your outfits.
My big beef with the Windstar is that it had all the towing bells and whistles from the factory, a 3,500 lb capacity (allegedly) I use a load levelling hitch and followed the recommendations of the manufacturer to a tee. It crapped out at 140,000 km. My last Windstar did the same thing around the same mileage and I had never towed a thing with it. Main problem was I had the minivan before I got the boat or I would without a doubt got a beefier tow vehicle from the get go. Did the research on the minivan and found that I would only be towing half it's rated capacity so figured all was well.
How wrong I was !!!!
