    Newbie looking for advice

With an outboard you lower it and the water drains. Then you fog it, change the lower gear lube and you're done winterizing. With an I/O, the winterizing list is much longer and again, if done incorrectly, can result in having to deal with a cracked engine block come Springtime. With an...

    Newbie looking for advice

I don't know if you are considering keeping a boat in a garage, but it is helpful having a folding trailer tongue. Without that, my boat would not fit in one side of my garage, I would have to store it diagonally in my two car garage, leaving my truck out in the snowy winter weather.

    Newbie looking for advice

If I were to do it all over knowing what I now know, I would not buy an I/O boat....period. I would only buy an outboard. I/O's require more work and knowledge when winterizing and if not done properly can result in a cracked engine block. The whole bellows idea is a ridiculous setup...

Should you buy 20 year old boat to fix up or 10 year old boat?

It all depends on how well an older boat was taken care of and especially where it had been stored. You could have a 5 year old boat that is trashed from being left out in the weather without a cover or an immaculate 20 year old boat that was garage kept. Mine is nearly 20 years old and...

    Can't see my boat

Get some clip-on mirror extensions. I too would be concerned with the load being pulled by that suv. The braking would be a big concern. I hope that trailer has functioning brakes of it's own. Normally a rig with that kind of weight would be equipped with it's own brakes. I think 3,000...

    Gimbal Bearing Compatibility and Source?

This is why I only use oem when it comes to critical parts. Especially parts that are not easily accessible. You have to pay a bit more, sometimes a lot more, but in the end you know it will fit and perform as designed by the engineers.

Just bought this Snowblower ,Good, bad ??

Oh, I stand corrected, thanks! Like I said, it was a while ago when I did the repair, so I must have recalled incorrectly.

Just bought this Snowblower ,Good, bad ??

Yep, one of my neighbors has one like that. It's lighter and easier to handle. His doesn't have any wheels that drive it, he has to push it, but it's not heavy at all. He pushes it forward and back, then forward to help it along, but it does work. It's also surprising how it can handle some...

Just bought this Snowblower ,Good, bad ??

Thank you for that correct terminology! I couldn't think of the proper name! The rubber wheel drives the metal wheel which drives the augers. The rubber wheel eventually wears out. No big deal to change it out though.

Alpha One Gen 2 Outdrive not going back on

You need an alignment bar. Without one, you'd be awful lucky to get it lined up properly. Here's what learned when I did my gimbal bearing: The gimbal bearing pivots all around at different angles. If it's not perfectly lined up (at the correct angle) with the engine coupler, you won't get...

    I/O Characteristics

I don't know much about jet drives, but I would think they would be a better choice for shallow water. That's what is common on the Delaware River here in Pennsylvania. I/O's can be trimmed up, but there is a limit to how far up. If you raise it beyond that point while the engine is running...

Update to using Toilet bowl cleaner for hull and bottom

Yep, as I stated (post #6), that's what I use. Powdered oxalic acid. It works great. Nothing would get those brown stains out of my gel coat. I tried all kinds of home cleaners and even my pressure washer to no avail. Diluted oxalic acid worked like a charm.

    Restoring my drive bell housing

I flipped when I saw your title! Restore a Bell helmet! I was thinking...helmets have a shelf life and any tiny damage would render them unsafe. To me, old helmets are not to be "restored", but just thrown out. But....then I read your post...and figured....darn spell correct!!!!! Anyway...

    Battery storage in parallel?

I have 5 batteries and 5 individual maintainers. The maintainers were $30 a piece. I pull them all and keep them maintained directly on the concrete floor in my basement. I don't think maintaining them in parallel is a good idea for the reason others have stated. My boat batteries are at...

    Steering problem

Could his boat be unbalanced, heavy on one side? Trim tabs were mentioned. Are there in fact trim tabs and are they adjusted properly? What about that adjustable tab under the drive, isn't that supposed to correct the steering?

1982 35 hp evinrude. Very hard to pull start when the spark plugs are in but when removed easy

That's normal to some degree due to compression of course, but I'm guessing from your statement it may be abnormally hard to pull. Was it always like that? So, what's the problem? Does the engine start, but just hard to pull? Or does it not start at all? I wouldn't know, but do those...

    its here

Northeastern part of Pennsylvania. Uhgg.....I woke up to 32 degrees (F). I went out and there was frost on my windshield! Bummer! No white stuff yet, but it will be here very soon. You can count on it. We had a crazy stupid amount of rain this year. Nothing had any time to dry out, just...
