    Blue Sea Add a Battery

You cannot protect a 16 gauge wire with a 20 amp breaker. Never assume there will only be a 10 amp draw. Voltage drop in you home wiring only comes into play when the wire length exceeds 100 feet. Then you need to increase up to the next size.

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

Good point. And that is why any add-on accessory you "tap" off your cigarette lighter circuit should be immediately fused according to the wire size of that added accessory. This protects that smaller accessory wire and the accessory itself.

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

So you're saying every lamp or other device in your home that plugs into a 120 volt receptacle has it's own fuse/circuit breaker at or in the device? I know you didn't mean that. Those branch circuits, if protected by a 15 amp breaker for instance, are limited by that breaker. Nothing over...

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

You can't just feed a motor directly without fuse protection. You don't omit fuse protection due to a surge during initial startup. When it comes to motors, the use of time delay fuses are neccessary due to the initial motor startup. There are also motor controllers for large motors. These are...

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

When installing an electrical device, whether it be a 240 volt electric clothes dryer or a 12 volt windshield wiper motor, one always determines the amperage draw of the device first. With that information, you then determine what the wire and fuse/breaker size and should be.

No problem. Thanks for clearing that up. You are indeed the knowledgeable gentleman I always thought you were!

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

You have mistaken me for someone else. I did not state that. Over current devices are meant to protect both the wiring AND the load. But....the wiring must be sized according to the load and that is all engineered by the manufacturer. The over current device protects the load device as...

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

You are missing the point that the wire feeding the device is supposed to be sized correctly for the load of the device. The fuse or breaker, if properly sized, not only protects the wiring for overloads or shorts, but also the device. I would never feed a 100 watt light fixture with a 500...

Inboard Engine Cover is Really Heavy

This is what I was thinking. Maybe, one at a time, unhook one end of each gas shock, then push it in to see how much resistance you get.

Ran motor (in driveway) without oil in lower unit?

They don't need routine replacement. However, if your engine overheats, the rubber parts can melt and the metal parts can fall down into the lower exhaust. If you're lucky, they will continue and end up in the outdrive. If you're not lucky, they will sit at the bottom of the exhaust and can...

Ran motor (in driveway) without oil in lower unit?

Just to inform you.... Those exhaust shutters are located inside the exhaust, in the engine bay. They fell off and worked their way all the way down into the drive. This is a common occurrence.

    music player for android

I've never had that problem with any player I have used. Could it be the way you have your songs structured? Have you created playlists or albums containing the songs? Then choose that folder or album name and all those songs will play. While we're on the subject, I find it much easier to...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Fuel Issues

Maybe there is a pickup tube and it is cracked and is intermittently sucking air. What is the function of the anti-siphon check valve? To prevent the fuel from flowing back to the tank? If so, maybe it is defective and gravity is causing the fuel to flow back to the tank.

    Mercruiser 3.0 Fuel Issues

Doesn't it need a submerged pickup tube to extract the fuel? How can it pick up fuel without one? Or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about....

Flagstone Patio pitched slightly towards house and water collects

Can you saw-cut the slabs near the house, dig it out and drop in a zipper drain?

    Mercruiser 3.0 Fuel Issues

We see it an awful lot where automotive non-marine parts are used on marine engines. It's due to ignorance and not intentional. Hopefully people that come here are enlightened and realize that if you use an automotive starter, distributor, fuel pump/filter, etc, etc... that's not marine...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Overheat stop working

Too general of a question. In order for anyone to diagnose your problem, you will need to provide more details about exactly what has occurred and exactly how it is currently behaving. Is it cranking? Is it seized? Is there a spark? Is it getting fuel? Is it hydro-locked? What is the...

    Portable electric heater Thermostat jump

So, with the wires jumped out and the thermostat out of the circuit, how will you regulate the heat? Where is the existing thermostat located? Right on the baseboard? On/ in a wall? Or maybe there's a wall switch that can be replaced with a 120v thermostat? Seems you should be able to find...
