A target to aim your tires at.....great idea! I'll remember that one!

    trailer dolly?

Can you lay some 3/4" plywood down over the gravel? Then you'll have a smooth surface. The winch idea is a good one, if it puts the boat exactly where you want it. If not, you'll be maneuvering it by hand in the end. My boat is definitely heavier than yours. I back it in (most of the way)...

    Boat Wiring Help

Just be careful. If drain your trolling motor battery, don't switch the other (starting) battery or you might not have enough power to start the outboard.

    Boat Wiring Help

@dingbat seems to be a lot more coherent than the rest of us! Maybe we're a bit groggy from our New Year's celebrations! All his points make perfect sense. Leave the trolling motor battery standing alone. Charge it when you get home. If the boat is moored/docked where there's no electricity...

    Boat Wiring Help

A deep cycle battery is needed for the trolling motor. They can handle the repeated discharge. They can survive severe discharging. A starting battery cannot. For longevity, you should fully recharge it as soon as possible using a good battery charger, not the outboard. Chances are that the...

Made a hand control for my trolling motor.

Great idea! Add a clip or lanyard and it will be readily accessible.

    Electric power steering

Yeah, hopefully someone will chime in. I fear that only some crazy expensive software might be the way, but what do I know? If you don't get any clues in the near future, you might have to open your son's wallet to some diagnostic guru. If you have a trustworthy dealership near you, you...

    Electric power steering

I can only guess since I'm an "old school" mechanic, but that is an interesting setup. Since it's electric, I'm assuming it's not belt driven. So that rules out a low idle, I guess. The only thing I could think of, and you asserted to this, that it could be a voltage problem. Maybe a weak...

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

The ACR is basically wired in parallel with the wires that go from each battery to the battery switch. I used terminal blocks so I wouldn't have a bunch of wires directly connected to the battery terminals.

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

I emailed Blue Sea for an explanation to settle this discussion. When someone gets back to me, I will let you know, regardless if I'm right or wrong about the need for fuses.

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

The cables from my batteries to the ACR are around 18 inches long. The cables from my ACR to the battery switch are somewhere between 30-36 inches long. The instructions from Blue Sea recommend installing fuses. They even have a chart for sizing the fuses. I linked the website below. If...

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

I dont know why your boat's ACR wasn't installed with fuses. I'm guessing it was installed by the dealer, not the boat manufacturer. I installed mine with the fuses, according to Blue Sea. Why cheap out?

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

Fixing electrician's goof ups? That statement is uncalled for. I was trying to be informative and nice. Back on subject: Look at the Blue Sea diagram. It shows the fuses. In case you didn't know...It's those little squiggly lines in the circuit with the two dots mister EE. IT HAS NOTHING...

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

Yes, never run an extension cord, lamp cord, tv cord or similar under a carpet or through walls. They need to be in free air to prevent heat buildup, but they also don't have the proper insulation to withstand physical damage. Have you ever noticed your home's outlets are no further apart...

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

Completely true. A short would trip the breaker. Funny thing though, I've seen on more than one occasion a short bypassing a local breaker in an electrical closet on an upper floor and blowing a main fuse all the way down in the building's basement. Electricity can be a funny unpredictable thing.

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

Great conversation. Only thing is, we basically hijacked the thread! Sorry for that folks! Grounding is a bit more complicated than that. Then there's bonding, also a bit complicated. And a ground is not the same as a neutral. I've been around the block and back. I've worked on raising...

    Blue Sea Add a Battery

It doesn't matter where you plug the lamp in as long as you use the lamp properly. The lamp was manufactured according to the wattage limit of the fixture, including its cord. There is no fuse in the lamp. Chances of this happening are are probably nil. An old style 100 watt incandescent lamp...

Mercruiser 5.0 MPI 2013. Crank but no start.

I guess he means the contact of the rotor is charred. Maybe it's arching for some reason. Maybe it's not making proper contact. Perhaps there's a gap. Just guessing....
