Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

The StarCraft panels for a 16 foot boat are 13 inches from the floor total height. (From bottom of aluminum Z bracket to the top of the panel(. 77 1/2 inches long at the bottom and 82 1/4 inches long at the top. the aluminum Z profile is 7/8 flange on the floor, up 2 inches then 3/4” x 1”...

    G/Flex question on aluminum boats

Thanks guys, I left this project Way too long this fall and winter closed things down so I was not able to final leak test it after doing a rebuck and Gluvit inside. (all the local lakes were closed, the closest open launch was an hour plus away) And as much as I did not want to fill the boat...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

The SC panels are angle cut at the consoles. Let me know if you need dims. If my Brothers boat is accessible I’ll see if I can get you pics. His is same as yours (alum goods)

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Exciting stuff…I like the grey. Thought about that colour myself. Do you still have the original side panels? On the StarCrafts, the panels stop short of the consoles. Not sure if my floor had a rise from the console forward but I don’t recall one. Perhaps someone can weigh in.

why is this a GOOD idea to paint the hull where the flotation is

I think the thought behind it was to prevent corrosion by trapped moisture against the inner skin. I’m about to do this to my boat (rigid styrofoam but no paint) so if corrosion on bare aluminum could be an issue it would be good to know.

Nobody has has used G/Flex for this?

Are you able to find dek-master elsewhere then? I’m hesitant to use the 77 again. Although where I used it it’s worked well. But now in the middle of the floor area subject to sun, I don’t trust it. I like the sounds of dek-master

    G/Flex question on aluminum boats

Question for you aluminum hull gurus; I’m fixing up my old Starcraft riveted boat and I’m wondering what level I should go to with the G/Flex boat repair kit I bought. It’s supposed to seal any loose, leaky rivets and seams. This is an extra step to go with the Gluvit on the inside. But I’m in...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Learned that infrared temp guns read aluminum and shiny metals differently. Noticed about 10deg F cooler reading on bare aluminum vs painted or coated aluminum. The infrared heaters work much better than I initially thought. The boat is now effectively acting as a radiant heater. Impressed

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I took your idea and did the same. Works beautifully. I’m getting temperatures of 75 to 82° F throughout the hull surface. Marine tex says 72°F and up. Got the other side buttered with Marine Tex. Hopefully this heater trick means I can send it tomorrow. Then onto the G flex treatment. Man...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Finally moving forward. I bought 2 infrared heaters at PA for $44 each. I also picked up a digital infrared temp gun. Played around with it some. I roll back the 220v heaters at night (one off completely) so starting temp in shop was 59F. The boat hull was the same temp. I always thought that...

Nautolex Vinyl on Deck - Aluminum Hull

Very cool find! There’s another manufacturer doing thick teak looking mat panels right now. It’s actually CNC routed (assumed) so the dark lines are actually channels, not just colour delineation. Are you upgrading to ply side panels? Those are structural, not just for aesthetics. The PO must...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Late to the party too! Another Canuck here, great looking project. I bet it flys! I’d say keep that Yammy or trade for another Yammy triple. (70). Or as I another said, beef up the hull if you choose to keep. I’m very intrigued, I don’t think I knew there was a 15’ SS. Watching with much interest.

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Well it’s been a bit of a slow go lightly. All the MarineTex butter that I put on the bottom has not cured 100%. It’s hard to the touch, but still slightly sticky. I’m going to go at with a heat gun. Not sure if warming it gently for a short period time will make it kick it all. Thinking about...

Nautolex Vinyl on Deck - Aluminum Hull

Do your side panels close this off? My side panels terminate just before the helms. This is the only area that I’d have that visible crevice (except for under the v bench hatch) so I’m trying to figure out a trim piece or I might make longer side panels. Looking forward to seeing what you do...

Where do I belong? Alum Goods 1687, SS16 Clone?

Jealous of your progress! Looking great What is JT offering for glue? I bought the 3M Super 77 and did the small area under the splashwell and it worked nicely. I’m afraid to use full contact cement for fear there’s an oops on laying the aluminum and a wrinkle that super sets that I can’t get...
