2007 honda bf50, no tach or alarm

Sorry, I missed your post so I'm a little late to this game. Regarding that "chirp", unless this is a fuel injected engine, there is no chirp. These 50's changed from carbs to injection about that time so it could be either one (BF50A or BF50D).

    Vinyl Flooring

My last 2 restorations both involved vinyl, but that vinyl couldn't have been more different. The first was an expensive (over 1000. for a 24' toon) padded vinyl that's pretty deluxe. 3 seasons on it now, and it still looks and feels like new. The next boat is a 19' deck boat. I wanted something...

CCA for a 30hp 2 cycle Evinrude tiller

I think the right answer here might depend on the skipper's preferences. I can start, and do frequently, a 90 hp Honda 4 stoke using a garden tractor battery installed on my test stand. And it does that easily. There's no grunting involved. If we were talking about MY boat, with no other...

    Wheelchair Accessible Resto-mod

Yup. You'll be able to "re-purpose" those vents for sure! I wanted a clean look, so my starting battery and 2 6gallon tanks are all under seats with plumbing/wiring run underneath out of sight. I drilled drain holes in the bottom of the bases as well, as they don't come that way from the...

I deleted my original message relating to common sense..... Sorry for wasting the band width.

    50-1 Mix in a new 4 stroke

May not sound like a great idea at first, but I think you'll find it won't hurt a thing. So I would have to agree with the dealer. It may not break in as quickly, but it will break in. As far as being smokey, nope! Not even a light haze. As far as any other issues running 50:1, nope! 50:1...

    Shallow water anchor poles

"Sand Augers", would these be the alum. ones that look a lot like the ones you might use to hold a dock up, only painted a fancy flourescent color so they're easy to find?

    Shallow water anchor poles

I see folks using the shallow water anchor poles in busy anchorages (sand bars, off an island), so they must work. But they look like work to be worth anything. I've never had the need myself. I use conventional anchoring methods, or just raft up next to somebody.

    Moveable deck chairs on pontoon

Regarding portable seating, this doesn't need to be too complicated. If you are on an inland lake or operating in relatively calm water, I can share that we've used plastic and folding lawn chairs for the last 40-50 years, with the Adirondacks found to be the best. Other folks on countless other...

How about something nice and simple - like the results of a compression check. That should give a pretty good indication regarding any scoring seen through the exhaust ports. Just don't forget to open the throttle up when getting your readings...

Is my 77 Inline 6, 250 CID, 165 HP a GMC or a GM Chevy

They're the same block. And the dislike for GMC vs. Chev. would have to be because the GMC had 4 headlights vs. Chevy's 2. Rarely was there ever any other difference. The GMC was ALWAYS been sold as a higher end/up scaled Chev. whether that was actually true or not.... A Chev. fan with a...

If using 6 gal. portables, maybe not so much. Anything else would be a requirement on anything I own.

1980 85 hp evinrude starting problems

Here in Florida unless you never go more than a week or 2 between uses, you had better have SOME sort of fuel conditioner in use. My experience has been that if you are pre-mixing your oil and gas, that SHOULD be good enough. From that point, it's just about fuel/water separation and filtering.

    Suggestions for replacement floor covering

The only issue I see with snapped down carpet sections is how to control moisture under them. You'd almost have to pull them up after every boating session to allow that area to dry, no?

Charging voltage drop with diode isolator

Those diode type isolaters were pretty popular on RV's for a few years, but they were eventually replace entirely with relays of various types. The reason? That voltage drop across a diode. Relays avoid that....

1980 85 hp evinrude starting problems

Racerone and I are on the same page here. The choke, to be most effective, needs to be closed completley to work properly/be most effective. One other thought, is a chipped or broken reed valve can cause these kind of headache as well. They need to seal in order to cause the kind of suction...

Is the choke closing completely, or is there a chance it may only be closing partially? Is it running OK once started, with a smooth idle?
