    Older 4-stroke or newer 2-stroke?

Honda builds reliable stuff and have a proven record that you can't argue with....but any future repairs that might be needed are gonna be costly, four strokes are expensive to work on. The Yammy also has a good reputation and will be less costly for any similar repairs needed on the Honda...

    New Winch or Winch Strap?

Quality of winch makes a big difference, years back I had a trailer with a 2000# manual winch but an off brand cheap job, it did work fine, never an issue, so I thought. Friend found a brand new winch at a garage sale for cheap, also rated at 2000# capacity. What the hey.....new shiny winch vs...

Trail camera issues fixed, now pics from them ...

Animals are survivalists, they will do whatever needed to make it on their own ! People on the other hand have learned to cry and whine about everything being someone else's fault and can't help themselves.

    Vinyl seat repair

Back in my younger days, I was a car guy and vinyl roofs were popular. We used " D&L hand cleaner" with landline to clean and protect our vinyl roots in showroom condition. It is still made under another brand name if you search. Your stuff may be to far gone, but the hand cleaner is only a...

What should I offer on this outboard?

I find these electronic powered motors to be far more difficult to work on, and these electric gizmos are expensive ! Give me the more mechanical motors anytime...my current motor is a 1992 Merc, the newest motor I have ever owned in my 60 years of boat owning and it has been excellent !

    New Winch or Winch Strap?

It works when you have two people....I am usually alone...and even when I do have another person, I have been doing this for so long, that another person gets in the way ! If I still had my 22'....that would be another story.

    New Winch or Winch Strap?

Now that I have spent some time thinking about your idea, the better I like it.. Not sure how well it would work on a 1 speed winch where the cranking can be difficult, but with my two speed in low gear, I don't think it would be a problem. I can crank my 1200# boat on with just a finger like...

    New Winch or Winch Strap?

I considered that before buying my two speed winch. Then figured how much time it takes to crank less than 18" on the winch. I would be done cranking long before I had the battery connected on the electric winch. Now if I still had my Islander, there would be an electric winch on there !! My...

    New Winch or Winch Strap?

I thought the same thing...but then I realized it is rare that I crank up the full length, normally (95%) it is just pulling up the last foot or two at most. Both my shoulders have torn rotator cuffs...so I know what your going thru. In honesty, I don't use my shoulders when in low gear, I can...

Lund 315 new to me - now what do I do?

Stringers usually rot out before the transom, boats rot from the bottom up ! Testing is easy, please test for the safety of your passengers ! If you have never saw a fiberglass boat skeleton fail while underway....it is not pretty...and your insurance won't cover it.

Lund 315 new to me - now what do I do?

Once you get the motor running, now is the time to check hull strength. Most of these old boats have a wood skeleton for support and that needs to be solid. If the wood is rotten and the skeleton fails, you will sink. You will also want to check under the floor for excess water that will add...

    New Winch or Winch Strap?

A two speed winch makes it so easy....why bother with a drill ?? How much weight are you pulling up ( boat weight) then what is the winches rated capacity ?

    New Winch or Winch Strap?

Many winches that fail are cheapies or not rated for the load being pulled and get worn out. Lack of cleaning or lube ( maintenence) is another factor. In the past couple years I replaced my winch for a better, easier to use winch. The winch on the trailer was in great shape but my shoulders...

Good enough RPM or not (92' Yamaha 130 v4 2 stroke)

If speed and hole shot is wanted, carry two props, I did for years when we had boat toys and the kids were younger. Only takes a couple minutes to change out a prop.

Good enough RPM or not (92' Yamaha 130 v4 2 stroke)

Watch your tach and you will be fine, mine will run about 100 rpm over with just me as well, but rarely run it pegged !

Aluminum tubing for a new canvas soft top on a 1989 Starcraft Islander 221V

In my opinion the taller tops create far less shade, I cut mine down as low as possible to just be able to stand and end up with greater amounts of shade. Owned a bimini with a window on top and it acted like a magnifying glass in summer sun.....just food for thought.....

Aluminum tubing for a new canvas soft top on a 1989 Starcraft Islander 221V

Most mfgrs have a plus or minus 2" on the width as the tubing will spring in and out that much. Best option is to measure the width of the two mounting points to start. We can't see or measure your boat and our boats may have a different mounting point. Yep...time to go for a ride !
