    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

Look at the folks comming back from there cruise and found their autos left in the parking lot were flooded over and being some salt water, a number of EV's batteries caught fire !! So far, more battery fires from EV's than we had fires from gas tank fires on the old Ford Pinto's.....those were...

1976 Montego 16- The "Free" Puppy

Drill some test holes into that glassed over wood. That inside wood is probably rotted. If rhe wood shavings cone out dry and wood colored, your good, but if the wood shavings are damp, wet and discolored, then you have weal rotted structure. Unfortunately rhis is what happens on old...

    Value of a 2000 Lowe sea nymph v FM165S

Well I live not far from Lake Erie in Ohio, walleye capitol of the world, so boats tend to run just a little higher around these parts, but there are also lots of boats to choose from so a little higher does not mean worth its weight in gold. Last summer, I bought an extremely nice 1992 Sylvan...

    Value of "Vintage" outboard?

I remember those well from my youth working at a marina next door. Had a couple on our rental boats. Good memories, that motor looks to be in pretty good shape !! In my area, small motors can be a hot item, but still 100 - 250 tops is about it.

    Duel battery troubleshooting

As I am part of the masses and can fully understand that a 12 v battery cannot hold 24 volts, guess I shouldn't waste ny time offering a solution. If it worked I would be considered unintelligent, so I will pass.......

    1984 75hp L4 with unique problem? I'm baffled!

"All cylinders seem to be firing" is not accurate enough to make any diagnosis.....each one needs a spark jump gage to know for sure. If your only going to guess, we can't help. When making tests for diagnosis, these test must be done right and accurate or ???????

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

Yep....watched the dealer do that...not typically something a home mechanic wants to tackle. Wait until you see the price of that tool !! As of three years back was a dealer only item. You need looong arms and willing to stick it in a 125 degree engine bay...engineering at its finest !!

    Cuddy crusier

For those few manuals that might be out there, nothing but how to start, how to wash and wax, and what the buttons and switches mean, absolutely nothing about maintainence or other worth while information.

On my 2015 Jeep Cherokee, you can't check the trans fluid. Dealer only, recomended every 100k miles, the cost was 140 bucks to check the trans fluid !! No dipstick, requires a special tool to read the fluid condition and level.... Progress at it finest. !!

    Cuddy crusier

The decking is the least of your problems, old glass boats rot from the bottom up ! Under your floors you will find rotten stringers and the rest of your boats skeleton. Doable but lots of really messy work !

1982 omc stern drive wont go up or down

    Tracker

Gonna be a tough one to find...not going to be many in junk yards and new replacements are not availiable as mfgr date is to old. Most are cast aluminum, if you have a local foundry, one can be replicated, or if you have acess to a local machine shop, one could be CNC machined. Some folks have...

    1970-1971 seabird 19

In most states it is not yours without proper paperwork. Being an old glass boat, it will need extensive repair/ rebuild, so get all the ownership papers in order before you put any money into it.

any tire preference for vans at the boat ramp?

I was a van owner for over 30 years, towed many boats with it. Add a front hitch, even just a reciever in case you might need help getting up a ramp, I never did, but that front reciever was a " piece of mind just in case"...Having tried many different tires, I found the Michelin brand made a...

    Camper enclosure

In my many years of boating, I find the custom made covers to be the best....not cheap, but they look better, work better and last longer. Now is the time/ season to get it done, you may have to leave your boat with the canvass maker. Don't be afraid to look outside your neighborhood, with...
