That is why you need to make a game of it, now, both of us make fun of these callers, even tobthe point of being nasty just to laugh at their response....we end up getting a good laugh, making the day better....
Ski lockers are very prone to rotting, gotta get down under the floor closer to the bottom. Not trying to be difficult here, but would not want to see you put time and money into a boat then have a major failure out on the water. Unfortunately their are many horror stories about folks that...
Me either, but it stopped them from comming back. Even had the police called one time, I told the police I ask them numerous times to leave and got tired of holding the towel so it dropped. Even rhe cop got a chuckle !!
Would never attempt that changeover on a fiberglass boat, way to much messy work and expense and you would never get a return on your time and effort. Now if it were an aluminum boat, that might be a different story as their resale is far greater, but...you will never recoup your expenses...
If there are soft spots in the floor that is a bad sign ! Glass boats rot from the very bottom up. You definetly need to dig deeper into the structure !! That wood is the skeleton of the boat, if it has rotted, the fiberglass will fail. Wish I has better news, but your safety needs you to...
That was a motor I never questioned my mechanic on, I had bought a 40 classic with oil injection, so our discussion was primarily smaller motors. I made the assumption the great reputation was for all Merc outboards. Just goes to show...never assume !!
Your retired and need something to do, so have fun with it....I do...have even answered the door with just a towel and let it fall a few times especially when women are there !! When they call I go into a real tirade and they hang up, after a coupke times they don't call back. Don't be afraid...
Whew.......glad I am still a big two stroke fan, these four strokes are gonna be big headaches when it comes tine for overhaul or repair. Still a big fan of KISS....
I am no mechanic but have serviced different types of engines for many, many years. The cold vs warm compression numbers don' t look right....in all my years of engine work, never saw a gain of 25 lbs from cold to running. If the engine hasn't run in months then mabey but a 25 lb jump in...
When hises fail it is from the inside even with the outside looking great. My own fuel line was just replaced less than 3 years back, but after my inspection before retiring the boat for the winter, I removed a couple fittings and found the inside of the fuel line beginning to come apart...
Try adding a squeeze ball in the fuel line like they use on outboard motors. When it acts up, check the ball, if not collapsed pumpnit and see ir the engine comes back to life. If it does, you have a pickup or pump issue.
Being a 1996 and a fiberglass boat, time to look closely at the condition of the transom. When they start getting bad, they tend to leak. Hope your issue is something easy !!
Can only go by what my motor repair guy has told me. Been going to him for many years and have never been steered wrong. I do most of my own work when possible but use him when things get to deep for my skills. Also a personal friend of many years so I trust his judgement. He claims in his...
Look carefully at your fuel. Had a similiar issue years back with water in the fuel. If you don't already have one, add a water seperator filter. The vent line should have an upward loop before it exits the hull to prevent water spray from going thru the vent line back into the tank. That...
After spending big money for a boat and all the time and energy to take care of it, why woukd antone want to skimp a few dollars on aftermarket, unknown quality parts ?? There are numerous articles about using Sierra parts in varuous forums about there use. Most claim they work ok, but...
Ask the owner what was repaired...being an aluminum transom it woukd not be rotted wood. Crawl under and look for damaged or missing rivets. If all looks good then check the motor carefully, that could be the expensive part if there is an issue.
