    Bellows replacement

How you store your boat will affect the bellows life. To shorten the life span....keep your boat in the water..keep the outdrive in the up or trailering position...exposure to the sun...failing to inspect it every year...using non factory replacements.

    Curious about Sylvan boats

What year is the boat ? My 92 has no wood in the transom, only floor and decking. Easy repair if needed! My neighbor has an 88 or 89 with no wood in the transom. Many times a transim repair could be rivets or bolts that need replaced. As I said before, if the boat has no missing rivets or...

    Curious about Sylvan boats

I have what ai believe is a sister to the boat in yor pics. Mine is a side console but color scheme is the same, mine is a 1992 Sea Troller. Early Sylvan models had some issues in rough water with hull buckling but that was early 80's from my research. Mine is rock solid, no leaks, handles a...

    Transom straps

Keep the outboard tilted up and you won't damage the ramp. We require the motor to be tilted up as much as feasable to power load at a local ramp. Most follow it very well. After over 10 years of use, no wash out. I am 73 and also tired of winching, even with my small 16' aluminum boat...

    Transom straps

The weak link in a turnbuckle is the threads and often they are made from cast metal, not a good idea there. I use a chain bolted to the tongue with a heavy duty S hook on the eye. Eye tightens up right under the bow stop with winch strap tight. Barring some unforseen catastrophie, it ain't...

    Mercury 60 Hp 2 Stroke

Without the ignition on, put in gear and manually turn prop...is it engaged ? If so it might be a bad prop hub, have saw brand new ones that don't work, so check that out. Have to ask...what is a rubber duck ?? Been around boats for over 60 yrs, never heard that term !!

375 # for a 90 hp outboard....ouch...man thats a lot of transom weight !! Glad I am still stuck on two strokes...hope you get your steering cable figured out !! Looking for pump to drain oil through dipstick tube

On my I/O I still used a drain screw, made sure I could reach it before I bought it. I am not comfirtable leaving any crud in the bottom of the pan. They also make drain kits so you can run a hose out the transom drain to drain your oil. Just don't trust a pump, I know many do, but I never...

    ideas?

Most sailboat owners in my area, only use the trailer for winter storage and the boat is in the water for the season. Some are pretty akward looking to say the least. If only used for storage it doesn't take much of a trailer...

Swivel seat mounts on bench seats?

I agree, that is why I made my plywood U shaped mounts to straddle the build in seats. The plywood came down a foot and a bungee strap clipped at the bottom held it in position. Very stable, but, could be moved from side to side by unhooking/ hooking the bungee strap. Wish I had pics to show...

    Looking at 8hp and 15hp 4stroke Merc

I have a much smaller boat ( 16' side console) I troll in Lake Erie using a little 2.2 hp kicker motor. Everyone says way to small but it works. Being a single cylinder vibration can be an issue a slow idle. Being small, cit needs tobrun 1/2 throttle or more which eliminates the vibration and...
