    Gimbal bearing.

I don't know... I seem to recall a number of people using Sierra or other aftermarket bellows who had the u-joint bellow repeatedly slip off the gimbal housing. That would let a lot of water into the boat pretty fast.

Might be buying an ‘88 Barretta Success 200

If everything is as you describe, that seems a reasonable price. A couple questions: that carpet looks pretty worn for being 5 years old; how much use has it seen since replacement? If you had indicated otherwise, I would have assumed it was original, given this has always been stored inside...

    Stringer encapsulation.( Air pockets.)

I personally would want to dry them in the sun for several days before applying epoxy or you risk encapsulating any moisture inside the wood.

    Gimbal bearing.

Too many reports of problems with intallation and longevity of non-OEM bellows for me to even consider them. Changing the bellows is a major pain in the backside and I don't want to do it any more than absolutely necessary. If it costs me a couple hundred extra bucks, it's more than worth it...

    Screw Sealant - Fiberglass Deck

3M 4000 would be my choice; it is UV resistant and not impossible to remove.

Wood species and type for stringers

The fiberglass that makes up my foam-cored stringers is at least 3/8” thick. That a lot of layers if you want to skip the wood.

    Bellow Replacement

I used a 9/16 deep-socket, too and it was fine. Even with the hinge pin tool, those suckers were hard to get out. A bit of persuasion with a propane torch helped. I think the heat helps loosen up the thread locker.

Wood species and type for stringers

The nice thing about Arauco plywood is that it not only is made with waterproof glue (as all exterior plywood is), but it has more plies and almost no voids compared to many other types of ACX plywood. That makes it much closer to marine plywood than most regular exterior plywood. Even better...

HELP - trying to drive in inner bearing race... NEED TRICKS

This is very good advice. Also, most auto parts stores have these available as loaners. I was able to borrow one from our local O'Reilly's and it didn't cost me a dime. Makes the installation much easier.

Barn fell on my Jon boat

The title of this thread sounds like a country music song.

    Bellow Replacement

I would replace the trim sender and trim limit while doing the bellows, especially if yours are resisting adjustment. Now is the time to do it... Also, Power Tune makes it SO easy to install the retainer sleeve on the u-joint bellows. I can't imagine doing it any other way. It literally slides...

Abandoned boat hull stringer help. 1984 sunbird 16

It's hard to believe that wouldn't be a complete gut-n-restore job. I wouldn't even think about it unless you have all the paperwork to register it in your name. Even then, you're probably looking at several hundred hours of work and several thousands of dollars to make it safe to run. Assuming...

    Engine Cover/Piano Hinge repair

You could try exposing that area and patching with epoxy and putting in new anchors, but as rusty as the old anchors are, I have to wonder if the wood in that area is still good.

    Gel coat vs Epoxy paint

Gluvit, which is also an epoxy, says to paint over it if used on top side to protect it from UV.

I Just Bought My First Boat. 1997 Sea Ray 175 3.0LX A1 G2. WHERE TO START PLEASE HELP!!

I don't think most of us are angry or anything. I just think we see lots of posts like this and often it's found that there are problems with rot. It's just such a simple and cheap thing to check for rot before dumping money on any other problem, that it's kind of a red flag for denial when...

I Just Bought My First Boat. 1997 Sea Ray 175 3.0LX A1 G2. WHERE TO START PLEASE HELP!!

Knocking/rapping on your transom will tell you nothing. If your transom flexes when you put weight on the outdrive, it's beyond rotten. The only easy way to check, short of buying expensive gear like moisture meters or IR cameras, is to simply drill holes as has been suggested. It won't...

    Miserable Midwest Spring

Here in Illinois it was early March on Friday and mid-August on Tuesday... our Spring weather lasted about two and half days.

Two Layers of 3/4 CSM versus One Layer of 1.5 CSM

I think you might have that backwards... I was always told the binder didn't dissolve in epoxy, not poly or vinylester resin. US Composites lists CSM as useful for those resins, but less so for epoxy.
