    Stingray 208cr trimtabs question

Sometimes you don't have much of a choice... I had to mount mine with the pistons attached to bumpouts on the back of the transom. I checked with Nauticus customer support (which is excellent, by the way) and they said that as long as the hinges weren't binding, it was OK.

    Alpha 1 gen 2 5.7L overheating

I usually get water spraying from the muffs about 8-10", too. I think I'd need to hook them up the pressure washer to get 10' of spray!

    Stingray 208cr trimtabs question

Those look like Nauticus Smart Tabs SX. Lots of info on the Nauticus web site: https://nauticusinc.com/products/smart-tabs-sx/ I have those on my boat and they help with a variety of problems, including porpoising, chine walking, and getting on plane quicker (and at lower speed). Unless the...

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

I sure wish I had installed one of those when I had my engine out. It was stupid to not have done so.

    Steel Caps or Bearing Buddys?

I have Bearing Buddies and I like them a lot. I put quite a few miles on my trailer every summer and they have always served me well. However, if I planned to repack bearings and replace seals annually while driving less than 300 miles, I would be hard-pressed to justify the expense.

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

I shoot 4-5 full shots of grease into mine each year, too. Not sure where the excess goes, though... I never see it in the boat.

Can the base of engine work? Two to bolts under engine are rusted and can

This is incredibly good advice. Trying to get the cable in right place without a guide is not easy! Trust me...

    Old fiberglass diagnosis

I'm not a fiberglass expert, but the pictures that would concern me the most are #3 and #4. The cracks in the side of the hull don't look like the usual spider cracks you see in gelcoat. I'd wonder if there's saturated foam on the other side that froze and expanded, cracking the fiberglass.

Is E-10 Fuel Acceptable Early in the Season?

I use E10 all season. I think any concern about 10% ethanol causing problems in an engine manufactured in the last two decades is misplaced.

Head with no holding tank, is this illegal?

Those of us who boat on the Mississippi, however, would really prefer you get a holding tank…

Looking for a light, all around anchor

Actually, ours is a slip ring, but I'm not sure what size. I do recall getting one for a boat larger than ours, maybe one size up. The slip ring has proven helpful more than once when the anchor got stuck on stuff.

1969 Mako cut and gut project by Lectro88

Took me a minute to figure out how/why were hanging your power tools off the transom in the first pic of post #90. Then I remembered you stood your boat on end.

Looking for a light, all around anchor

We have a boat of that size and even in Mississippi River current, a Danforth anchor with a 15' length of heavy chain works great. We do have a big Navy anchor, too, but we only use it when we need a stern anchor (which is not often). The Navy anchor is a bear to pull up by hand!

    Boat won’t start

Easy as can be. Here is iboats' very own @achris showing how it's done: The stickies that Scott referred to are at https://forums.iboats.com/threads/must-have-technical-information-for-diyers-an-work-safe-search-version-of.335378/. It take a while to dig through them and find what you need...

    Why is my carb oxidizing????

Any chance the boat has water in it (in waterlogged foam, for example) when stored? Anything that would be creating a very humid environment?

Has anyone seen or heard of a trailer tire doing this?

That explains it... 12 year old tires are well beyond their expected life. Glad you weren't on the road when they decided to fail!

    Launching/retrieving with FWD

I think its a legitimate question, especially since the vast majority of boats I see getting trailered are pulled by pickup trucks. I've been interested in reading what people have to say, especially comments like @QBhoy 's since towing practices outside of North America are so different.

    Engine swap, OMC to mercruiser

He means that if the OMC is a Cobra, it will have the same keyhole as a Mercruiser or Volvo SX, and the easiest thing will be to replace the entire engine/outdrive assembly (aka, replace everything pulley to prop).
