Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

there is a good chance the person that did the previous work may have used vynalester or some exotic resin , some of these can be deadly to the skin and lungs , there are no regulations when it comes to materials used in boat restoration , so it is what it is when it comes to de constructing...

How to choose an old 2-stroke 150/175 Merc

sadly i just sent all my old motors to scrap. i have to say the one merk that stood out to me was a 135 mariner / merk 2.0, i used that motor on a lot of boats , it was still a runner when it was sent to scrap .the advantage was there was no need to worry about finding parts as there was never...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

its not that you cant , its just the fact that the compressed air blower seems to concentrate on areas and makes the fibers imbed to the skin in spots. having a helper dust you down with the blower vac before removing contaminated clothing has saved me a lot of scratching. compressed air...

    Went electric

it was meant to be an example of how much energy is consumed charging the EV cells to keep them healthy. a couple of news posts will never convince me the Evs are better than the real thing . we all know how much the media brain wash the public into believing the BS they spread no matter what...

    Went electric

i don't agree that an EV is more efficient than a proper vehicle , try charging your EV from flat with a generator. that is if you can get a portable generator big enough to supply enough energy / KVA to do the job. now , even if you could find a portable generator that produces the KVA/ power...

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

:) put the big boy pants on and grind away ! , ha ha , we have all been through the rash and the itching. i have found some 3% peroxide from the chemist wiped over my arms after a cold shower will stop the rash from irritating (as it does). your skin is poisoned , that is what is making your...

    Water tube

i have used 5 min epoxy on the threads of the screws to tighten them up , not saying its a proper way to fix because if you are not at the correct setting you cant / shouldn't adjust once the epoxy has set. it will tighten the threads to stop the screw backing out. best permanent fix is a...

    Wet sanding gel coat

you will see the reason why sand and butting is best done at the same time frame when you get to the clean up stage "from experience " its a messy job and clean up is time consuming if the sanding residue is left to go rock hard. i overcome some of the drudgery by high pressure washing before...
