    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Also - did you do one or two coats of gelcoat on your ski locker and fuel tank bay?

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

For my ski locker I had my heat gun blowing 300F air into the cavity at the front for 30 minutes. I was getting ~90F air at the outlet. But I forgot to heat up the foam resin cans so I didn't get the expansion I expected on the first pour. Oops, haha.

    Restoring a 1990 Larson

Yeah, grinding was definitely my least favorite so far. Once I finish the boat I'm going to have to do a serious deep clean of the garage from the rafters down to get all the leftover dust out. I'm also looking forward to the mechanical side of things. What's it take to go from an Alpha One...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I'm using #10-24 SS screws/lock nuts to attach the cleats to the stringers. First I used a level/straight edge to set the height of the cleats relative to the tops of the stringers then clamped and drilled. Disassembled, cleaned, then I piped hairy PB on the back of the cleat, stuck it to the...

‘85 Chris Craft Scorpion transom, stringers, bulkheads and upholstery

Demo is looking good. If your stringers are truly ok, the scarf method should be ok, but you've got it torn down this far...if there's any concern with them, now is the time to replace. Use a circular saw with a shallow cut depth to saw a grid into the transom, then knock out the chunks with a...

    '90 Maxum 2100SR - restoration & conversion

Yeah, still trying to think through how I will do mine. I wish someone had one of the Mercruiser jigs for rent! I'm sure I'll get it figured out though.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Trimmed the glass on the back deck pieces and drilled holes for foaming. Mahogany cleats for the stern of the boat installed.

How scary was it drilling those transom plate holes?

    Opinions? - Spraying Gelcoat Difficulty??

Thanks for explaining the taping. That is something I have been wondering about.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Carpentry isn't really my thing...I'm more of a gear-head, so seeing this package show up today means the tide is starting to turn. I'm looking forward to start doing maintenance on the drive and engine. I'll continue ordering small mechanical bits as I get closer to finishing the hull. I...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Question for the learned folk: Should I put some kind of drain at the back of my passenger area to drain any water that gets in the seating area? In the picture below the floor is pulled up and you can see down into the ski locker - this is looking back at where the bench seat goes. Should I...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Ripped / planed some mahogany for cleats to hold the floor down. I've got to pick up about 4 more board-ft to make the remaining cleats. Also, my new fuel line, vent line, and fuel fill line showed up today.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I got all my stringers capped in 1708 last night. Tonight I routed and sanded the edges of the engine mounts and set them in the boat. I'm going to do 2-3 layers of 1708 on these. I also cut the glass off the face of the ski locker drain. Positioning came out really good, with the bottom...

1963 Starcraft Starmist? replacing floor - HELP

Yep, nothing like schooling them on their own regulations. I went through that with the tag department and my trailer, since it came to me un-titled. I had to explain to several people what the actual regulations were, and that I was in my rights to ask for what I was asking for. Granted, I'm...

Deck repair looks like might need new stringers and any other advice.

I don't think you ever said the make/model of the boat - what is it? Does it have any sentimental value? If not, you could sell it off and look for another boat, but chances are any boat in the same vintage is going to have the similar issues unless there is documented proof of a recent...

    Restoring a 1990 Larson

You do very nice work, and you appear to be moving very quickly. I feel you about blowing through materials. I've burned through 9 gallons of resin in the last 3-4 weeks.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I spent more time on the engine mounts tonight. Other than some router work and some sanding, they're ready to go in the boat. Here they are stacked up next to the original mounts. The thickness of the "sandwich" came out pretty much dead on. With the wood sandwich being as thick as it...

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Glad to see it's still moving along. I may try to wet sand/buff mine some before summer, but I honestly don't think I'll have time, and will probably make that a next-winter project. It may look funny with a new interior and chalky gelcoat, but oh well, it's all about getting it splashed this...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Today I got 2 layers of CSM down on the ski locker floor. Other than gelcoat, I think the ski locker is done. I spent some time capping more stringers. I'll have about one more evening of that, then I'll be done. Here's a picture of one spot on one of my stringers where I got a little wild...
