Problems starting after fuel filter/water separator change

if you take a rag and push the schrader in with a small screw driver - you can quickly see if there is air there or not. if its fuel or not under pressure no need to rig up a way to vent it.

I have to do a gimbal bearing and bellows etc, I have a question regarding the shift cable. Merc A1 G1 3.0

I didn’t have to cut my cable , just took the end off the shift plate end pulled inner completely out the bellhousing with weed walker line attached. Then I could pull the outer casing off with the bellhousing. Was doing bellows at the time so bellhousing Was coming off. yes you could use...

I have to do a gimbal bearing and bellows etc, I have a question regarding the shift cable. Merc A1 G1 3.0

you have to remove the cable to get the outer sheath off anyways. it gets removed out the bellhousing end. I usually tie a weedwacker wire to it to fish in the new outer sheath. All this is outlined in the manual

Throttle movement but no increase in engine rpms

Either damaged or the aluminum prop didn’t have as much cup or bite I have found that the aluminum 4 blades do not have the grip that a good SS 4 blade does. I get just about the same WOT RPM with a 23" Spitfire Al 4 blade as I do a 21" Revolution 4 , lots of slip with the two 4 blade AL props...

Alpha Gen 2 Stalls Going to Neutral (Shift Cable Replaced)

would also pull the drive to make sure the shift swivel shaft and linakge in bellhousing is not corroded or packed with debris causing extra drag. I ran into this after i replace the bushing on the shaft in the bellhousing bushing wasn't seated fully causing some drag on the arm. extra drag...

Throttle movement but no increase in engine rpms

4300 is still low for that engine should be 4800 -5k at WOT. If you go in shallow water lift the drive up would think you can swap props in the water , done it many times. or do you have an extended swim deck covering the drive ? Just gotta be careful the thrust washer doesnt stick to the prop...

2005 Mercruiser MPI 5.0L misfiring(?) when in gear, idles fine

Look for signs of arching in the cap, also if you get spark into the cap and not out of cap to plugs or wires. Just the gap tester you have- should jump consistently 3/8" 9nice blue spark not orange) or so. Testo it off the coil wire , then you should get the same size gap jump off the plug...

WOT RPM Low. MAG350 MPI B3

Couple of things I would look at - first yes of course it could be the linkage make sure it is opening all the way Verify firing order and the the indexing of the distributor. There is a procedure that Mercuiser has for this if you google it or find it in the manual. Compression test could be...

Throttle movement but no increase in engine rpms

Did it ever run at a proper WOT RPM or did this happen concurrent with the prop swap ? In addition to the compression check would verify you are getting full spark advance

2005 Mercruiser MPI 5.0L misfiring(?) when in gear, idles fine

Agreed probably the button in top of cap is not making contact with rotor. either that or cap is cracked and leaking spark to ground. so unless the dist is not longer turning would think cap and rotor need looking into

I I figured it was haul it away or pay more if you leave what you dont want... I would look to see if water got down the carbs as its likely they were not covered as long as it has been sitting

    1972 Mercruiser 165.

yes looks like the OMC version of the same Chevy straight 6. They were made in a few displacements and HP over the years, but any of them would be drop in. if twins not sure if one may be reverse rotation, but look to have closed cooling which is good. By the looks of the picture they do you...
