Would think based on what rpm you give , if prop guy can repitch down 2” you should be there at wot rpm and improve holeshot. Adding cup drops wot rpm similar to adding pitch …

    trim gauge

I tried sierra senders once didn’t work correctly… given age of your boat look at how the bellows are and decide if you want to do the sender alone. I suspect if you take the hinge pins out that will give you more access as bellhousing can flex on bellows my bellows lasted 18 years but i...

    trim gauge

Im not sure what outdrive you have on it? Edit see the TKS Assuming they diagnosed it properly it is a diy. The gauge and sender are separate would get oem parts for sender vs the cheap after market stuff. the issue is while you can replace the sender it is a PITA to get to, easiest done if...

    Excessive smoking

I used Amsoil on my 73 and 75 Evinrudes (9.5 & 15) was very happy with it. I ran it a little leaner than the 50:1 (couldn't go to the 75:1 or 100:1 it says you can) kept my plugs cleaner was less smokey, but smoke wasn't my issue.

    260 hp

would also add in which hull. I assume he is asking how much hp can a Mecruiser drive with a 260 label on it? Would think that is a gen one drive 300 hp or so, maybe 340 ish (383) if you are gentle on holeshot ? If its in a light hull vs heavier hull will make a diff, either way use a marine...

Mystery Knock -- Insurance and Warrantee

There is no way to adjust a timing chain, would assume he adjusted the ignition timing. The vacuum hose on the cool fuel would be for the fuel pressure regulator. So if you had wrong plugs, non functional fuel pressure regulator, and ignition timing is off and knocking under load ... did you...

Thats a good start although the steering must be weird with L/R reversed.... When you say you had very little propulsion - what do you mean? Did rpms climb with no forward momentum /prop splipping? Or did rpms not go up? Would also check the motor height if too low can cause too much drag. On...

    VP DP-SM drain screw leaking

Order a fatter one or get a O ring kit from the hardware store. VP may have the wrong O ring in their inventory. I had a similar situation at work where a OEM manufacturer used a teflon coated o-ring on a mechanical pump seal - it looked like a sausage... Of course from an OEM this was like a...

    Prop size

Probably something like a Michigan Vortex 4 blade 18" pitch would be a good place to start. What is the current SS prop that is on there? just trying to figure out how much grip it will have vs a less expensive AL prop. Also what is the WOT rpm range for your engine. You mention at least 5600...

    1990 5.7L L.E. OMC Cobra - Various Questions

Can't tell you about your questions but would look at the Holley carb on it to make sure it is a marine carb. Can grab the numbers of the airhorn or post a pic of the carb. I think normally all Holley Marine carbs have J tube bowl vents that are pretty obvious on if flame arrestor is removed...

Looking for a different distributor than my crab cat dist.

Yes, I'm sure you are still happy with your beta max as well... Seriously if you don't mind cleaning and gaping them there is no issue. Its only if you dont know what a dwell meter is that it is a problem

    Mercruiser 188 Open Cooling System

yes thermostat must be open but if it were me just drain the block and associated systems vs running AF. If really want to do AF to do it right you need to drain it first otherwise too much risk of diluting the AF

    Mercruiser 188 Open Cooling System

there should be block drains on either oil pan rails, drain them there will be some sort of drain plug on bottom of each exhaust manifold drain those, and pull bottom of big J hose on circ pump. Never have done a log manifold as they were before my time but pull the hoses on thermostat and...

    Mercruiser 188 Open Cooling System

Most of the free sites get shutdown for (understandable) copyright infringement. Best bet is to determine what manual number covers your engine and look on ebay for a used copy. this is for the 351 version but I think has the diagram you are looking for . you have to expand the window to see...
