Looking for a different distributor than my crab cat dist.

You seem to hear mixed comments on pertronix componenets. Why not get a used TB distributor as BT suggested? Seems simplest solution Additionally can you just put a nut on the backside of where the thread is stripped? Maybe not the most elegant solution but it cap just has to hold the cap on

    Bravo 3 Engine Alignment

Yes work on the alignment -you should never have to pound the alignment bar in. What do the witness marks of grease look like? that is key to know if you need to move the front of engine up or down. I would look through the gimbal into the coupler as you may have damaged it pounding the bar...

    4.3LX & Weber Carb Service

The fuel coming up and dribbling off of boosters is evidence of float bowl overflowing bad or misadjusted needle and seat/float, or too much fuel pressure. Until engine is running fuel pump should only be running when starter is cranking. Get a good carb kit from a place like mikes carb and...

1986 Mercruiser 470/170hp/3.7L Carb backfire, low vacuum, other weird issues

what about it is not rebuildable? Willing to bet that with some guidance you can properly rebuild it. anyone here who says they haven’t re-rebuilt a carb is FOS… my success rate improved by getting a ultrasonic cleaner from harbor freight used it with both carb cleaner and also simple green in...

1986 Mercruiser 470/170hp/3.7L Carb backfire, low vacuum, other weird issues

That is on old holley power valves not Rochester derivatives. the newer holley power valves are not susceptible to backfire damage anyways .

1986 Mercruiser 470/170hp/3.7L Carb backfire, low vacuum, other weird issues

normally those are a tight fit between baseplate and throttle shaft. When restoring carbs some better rebuilders will bush the throttle shaft to seal. On a new carb this should not be send it back and rebuild the oem carb or have it rebuilt by someone competent. This is the rub with these...

Buying an '03 Sea Ray Sundeck 220

The block is cracked- Doesn't matter what oil pressure is. Pull the engine get a new long block and manifolds. I did a similar repower on a 04 Sea Ray back in 2016. I ended up getting a new (not reman) extended base engine from Michigan Motorz. of course it was more money this way but just...

Need Help Selecting New Trailer Brake Kit/Actuator

I put that kit on my trailer back in 2015- dual axle Magic Tilt - just under 5k total weight. I don't tow that far or that often, only had one issue where I pulled the boat at end of season and the pads were rusted to the rotors (trailer sits outside during summer) , so good thing they switched...

40 HP Johnson, just tilt or tilt/trim?

I would think if they are calling it tilt and trim then yes you can trim with it. There was a note on the parts page you listed Power Trim/Tilt "F" Model Number Suffix Only do you have that in your model number?

installing a remote oil filter set up, got a question....

That one has swaged hoses essentially same material as hydraulic hoses vs some of the cheap automotive ones with hose clamps... Would think the hoses are good for 10-15 years would just keep an eye on where you run it and if they are chaffing wrap them so they don't abrade

installing a remote oil filter set up, got a question....

Its only to keep excess tape out of the fuel or oil system keep them off the end of the fitting you are fine or use teflon paste. I suspect you know not to use them on the flare fittings shown. Assume there are some NPT threads in the system? On a tapered thread the thread makes the seal the...

    Can’t Figure out Prop ….

Check what is on there now not the catalog, 23 doesn’t seem correct As my 3.0 was sluggish with a 19”…and we keep asking current wot rpm. This is key to deciding next prop. Do not try a different prop without establishing current wot rpm.

    Can’t Figure out Prop ….

Cant read the numbers from here. You need to pull it off and wire brush the numbers- are there any numbers on the side of prop? Looks like it hasn't been off in a while? if so might be good to grease the splines and check the annode behind the prop. As Scott outlines need to know your current...

1986 Mercruiser 470/170hp/3.7L Carb backfire, low vacuum, other weird issues

that is not how a power valve on a rochester 2 jet or Mercarb works. There is an piston/actuator that comes down from the airhorn and pushes the power valve open. At high vacuum/low throttle opening the piston gets pulled up into the airhorn and doesnt push the plunger on power valve open...
