    Tachometer Bad?

And how loaded the boat is, and what prop you have on there. Trim gauge is most useless.

Blowby through vent tube? Mercruiser 3.7

I think that's oil rather than a rich condition. But oil is getting in all 4 cylinders, so running lean -->tuliping a valve doesn't seem likely. But don't see why oil past the rings would cause low compression in one cylinder.

Head with no holding tank, is this illegal?

The tuna would be more surprised than you if they found themselves there.

Small amount of water in gear oil.

Also, keep your eyes open for a spare drive. Maybe not at this time of year, but I'm my neck of the woods you can find them on a junker boat or stand alone for a few hundred. Real nice not worrying about downtime due to drive issues.

want to run my engine out of the boat.

True. There isn't any electrical reason to single out a terminal block with isolated positives as being more of a spark hazard than say, the exposed positives on the starter? Or the alt? Or the slave, or...?

A couple of quick Edelbrock ?'s

Yeah, first pump was like 7.5 psi, next 2 replacements were 2.5. Though never had a problem running out of fuel once I got the jetting more or less sorted (going to tune some more once things are back to normal-ish). I think that every time I had flooding issues except once was after I pulled...

A couple of quick Edelbrock ?'s

Well, it flooded when I put it back on. This happens frequently with this carb. Not sure if the float hangs when I put it back on or what. Didn't see anything wrong, and couldn't blow through just the top when it was inverted. Put it back together and all good. @Scott06 , see my other thread...

Boat swamped, let's see if we can get it running...

Alright, so finally got the carb put back together. Drained the tank a few weeks ago until I wasn't getting any more water. Added about 10 gallons of fresh stuff. Replaced a BUNCH of connections, including alternator. Went to start and...no gauges. Ugh. Spent 4 hours chasing gremlins. Ended up...

    Fuel pickup problem...

(Boat mfg design meeting): "I have an idea! After we make it impossible to replace a $10 part, let's put the whole tank under a fiberglass deck! Then they'll need to buy another boat!" *Board murmurs approval, designer gets promotion*

want to run my engine out of the boat.

If your wiring looks like that, who knows what you have in there. But at one point in your boat's life there was a purple wire going to your coil positive. That's where you need to power the ignition. You're mean.

    Installed rebuilt carb

No, shouldn't bounce if you're getting a clean signal and the engine is actually running at a constant speed. The 1 1/2 turns is just the starting point for getting the boat running, it needs to be adjusted after that. Presumably. Maybe you're working on a weed wacker. We don't know.

    Shifting

Check what @achris suggested first. Another possibility is that the shift shoe is misaligned from the shift shaft when you put it back together. Also possible that you lost the large washer that sits on top of the shift shaft in the lower. Either way, first thing to do is see whether the...

    5.7 piston rings

Why not, if from the same vintage block, and the new bores were honed with new rings? Uneven wear at the Piston pin / rod? And then the obvious question of why is the op changing pistons instead of using what came with his new block?
